Re: Succubi and Private Eyes

(Kind of fell behind here. >.> Ended up needing to rush bits of it in the end, too. Oh well, hopefully it's back to schedule now.)

She resolved to go inside and face whoever was waiting for her. It probably wasn't an assassin, assassins didn't pace. A nightmare lord or a fallen angel might pace, but they'd just as likely burn the entire building down as a lesson to her, and there wasn't going to be any hiding from someone that powerful. Better to face them now, pretend she was confident about her chances, and let them know she was in her element. There wasn't going to be any sneaking into her own office, she owned the place—or, well, was squatting in the place; but she was squatting there first. She turned the knob and strode in.

And the first thing she saw inside the dilapidated room that passed for her office was a succubus, sitting on her desk. It wasn't on a name tag, the word 'succubus' wasn't sewn on her lapel, but she wore it as much as she wore her low-cut, revealing blouse and her short skirt. Her vivid amaranth skin was supple and without flaws. She had forest green high heels with heels that looked long enough to run a goblin through. Long, lissom legs hung off of the detective's desk, right crossed over left and hiding her modesty, or what little remained of it, far better than her skirt did. A red devil's tail coyly wrapped around her left leg, as if tempting the eyes to hurry and follow it up to the main event. She had hips that put the private eye's own to shame and she looked all too at ease on that desk. Her waist was slim and her breasts were full, her blouse doing little to hide the latter, giving her an hourglass shape. Her hands rested at her sides, propped on the heavy wood of her improvised seat. Her face was heart-shaped with a button nose and full, pouting lips. A pair of small, almost cute, horns were present on her forehead. The red woman's ruby eyes were framed by curly black hair that fell past her shoulders, and those eyes watched Diane with interest as she entered the room.

But the detective didn't acknowledge her visitor at first as she strolled into the office—no, she wouldn't verbally acknowledge her visitor until her visitor verbally acknowledged her. First, she looked for evidence of the other woman snooping through her stuff. Two filing cabinets by the wall were a mess. A large, cast-iron, double-sided trough that pulled double duty as a sink since somebody had installed a faucet on it sat near a window behind the desk, one side entirely full of dishes—and a more recently acquired accumulation of muck. The potted plant in the corner was dead and the coat stand in the corner opposite of it had a few wooden hooks missing. And the desk, which was the only orderly thing in the entire office, now seated one succubus's shapely rear. So, except for the succubus, everything was exactly how she'd left it.

The private eye casually tossed her soiled hat into the empty side of the trough, threw her trench coat in the general direction of the coat stand, and strolled to the other side of the desk. She calmly opened a drawer, spotting her pistol in it and, more importantly, her cigarettes. The detective pulled out one of her cigs, even as the succubus on her desk coyly turned to watch her do so, ruby eyes following her every movement. She put it in her mouth, then took a second dip into the drawer to find her lighter. Before she could, the succubus piped up; “Allow me.” She spoke in a seductress's voice, the kind of voice that belonged to a woman who'd chew a person up and spit them out as soon as she'd look at them. The red-skinned woman extended a finger, a short flame materializing at the end of it. Great, a mage, Diane thought, even as she took the first drag and released it into the office in a cloud of blue smoke.

“Excuse me, miss,” the succubus finally piped up as Diane slumped into her office chair, smoke in hand. “But you wouldn't happen to know where I could find a detective, would you?” She smirked. Diane could already tell that she was going to be a testing woman, or more likely an outright dangerous one, but the detective did need the denarii if she proved to be a client. Though, her headache wouldn't get any better by dealing with snark. How would she handle this conversation?

A) Be aggressive, she let herself into Diane's office, after all, waited there, and the second sentence out of her lips was snarking. Time to let her know who's the detective around here.
B) Play it cool, take the classic detective approach, beat her at her own game. Hopefully she's knocked speechless enough to give Diane the case and leave her be until her headache is better.
C) Charm her, Diane can think of another way to cure her hangover...
D) Other.

Note: The amount of information Diane receives is going to be based on a speech check pretty much regardless, though this choice does matter in what dialogue will occur (obviously), and will matter in regards to Diane's relationship to the as-of-yet unnamed succubus.

B Charming should be reserved for men, who only have enough blood either one of the brain or penis. (Is there a more tactful way to say that?)

Charming should be reserved for men, who only have enough blood to think with either one head or the other.

As for my vote...

Start with A because hangover, then continue with B with a slight sprinkling of C since Miss Succubus would probably enjoy it.
