Thall keeps on studying the screen. "The Telarin don't have fathers - or mothers, for that matter. We're put together from stem cells, and some of us, like me, are genetically modified during embryonic stage. Orx, ninety nine percent of the Telarin don't even have a gender." He straightens and turns around. "But I guess you mentioned your father in order to talk about him. Please do so if you want, I am listening."

"Thank you for being so caring" Vance says, smiling "Since watching a screen is boring, I'll entertain you with the story of my life" he says, sitting down and crossing his legs "Humans a born a bit differently, of course, but, when they are born, their parents are supposed to care for them and nurture them. Imagine, if you will, a father who was obsessed with genetic work, and used even his own baby son for genetic experiments." Vance says, shaking a bit and rubbing his neck again "Anyway, by the time I was ten, I was unstoppable. He had altered my bone and muscle structure, said it was 'For the good of Humanity's fighting ability' or some crap. I went along with it til I was fifteen. Then I found my father's lab one day." he says, a frown on his face and his eyes showing sadness "I saw one of his failures in a tank when I was exploring the place. My rage overcame me, and I went berserk. You can probably guess what happened then." he says, standing up and stretching his arms "They're both dead, their crazy experiments are over with, and I'm still alive." he says, his face still showing sadness "Sorry for talking your ear off, but that's the story of my life."

Thall jumps and reaches up to the little opening that contains his eardrum. He whistles in relief. "For a second you had me worried there. Another one of your funny phrases, I guess?"

"Yes, another Human phrase." Vance says, sighing as he looks at the screen "One thing I just don't get about all these alien races, is how they come up with their alphabet." he says, walking up next to Thall and eying the screen closely, a strange look in his eyes

Thall whistles again and crosses his arms. "The same way that the humans came up with their alphabet, I figure."

"You got that right." Vance says, turning his head to look at Thall "But, then again, to each his own" he says, crossing his arms and chuckling "I personally prefer alien races that can speak English. No offense, but if they can't communicate, why interact?" he says, a uncaring tone in his voice

Thall sighs and says something to himself in Telarin. "Remind me to never take YOU to a first contact." He turns back and watches the screen again.

Draven chuckles slightly and then chimes in, "I once knew of a race that used an alphabet of over three hundred letters and symbols for their language. Some of which would be unpronounceable by humans. Their language was a very interesting thing to learn."

He shakes his head a bit at the story however. "I honestly don't know how I would have reacted to what your father did were I in your position. The concept of genetically altering a person for the sole purpose to be a killing machine is barbaric to us. It wasn't always that way, but we did have an incident that made us see what a terrible mistake such tampering could be."

Another moment as he reads the screen again and shrugs slightly. "Strange, the Ashotur language doesn't appear to be as complicated as I had imagined it would be. Of course I'm thinking everything should be as complex as the last language I learned too now, so...."

He trails off, this obviously an intentional one.

"Well, I wouldn't be surprised if they have LESS letters than our language. Their cultural focus was the war, not the great arts. I think the Wendigo are fine with seven or something - if they have invented writing yet, I'm not sure. Hey... there's a race we could pit you against, Vance. The only drawback is that they eat you when they beat you."

"No thanks. I prefer to walk away from a loss." Vance says, chuckling "I would actually like to take on a Bentari, just to see how strong I am compared to one of them." he says, flexing his right arm muscle and smiling broadly "Plus, I want to see if I can actually control myself" he says, the smile turning into a wicked smirk "Never was good at holding back in battle"

Draven smiles a bit at this then adds, "don't get your hopes up there Vance. The last I saw of the Bentari they had actually retreated from a battle, back to their own galaxy, and haven't been heard from in almost six months by my people."

Draven pauses as he considers Thall's words. He then mutters something along the lines of, "Noo Ani Anqueetus...."

"Wasn't there a Bentari on the station? I heard that Ashotur took one down easily. Where is said Bentari?" Vance asks, looking around and thinking of the conversation with Nadia earlier

"Oh that? That was actually Draven. By the by - I thought I'd see the Ashotur nail you with one of his darts. Didn't that affect you?" He studies Draven now with a bit more interest.

"This guy? He's no Bentari." Vance says, eying Draven "What ever gave you that idea?"

Draven smiles at Vance. "Actually my friend your both half right. Watch this."

For a moment nothing happens, then suddenly his body begins to ripple and twist, changing somehow. After several moments, Vance would be staring into about the chest level of a rather angry looking Bentari. When he spoke, it was with Draven's voice. "What do ya think? Like my new outfit?"

A chuckle and then he turns to Thall and adds, "yeah one of the darts did connect, but as I said, since we are shapeshifters, it basically casts out any toxins each time we shift. Right after I threw him I minutely shifted my face to mimic the more angered expression, since we do actually have to shift to perform muscular actions that our natural mist form can't. Ironically that probably is the exact reason the dart didn't affect me, and not any special immunity. At least that is the way I understood it to always be."

"Waaah!" Vance is left speechless on the floor, stunned by the sudden shift "So, my eyes weren't playing tricks on me" he says, regaining his composure and standing, dusting himself off "So....You are the Bentari. After this is all over, We have to have a sparring match."

Draven chuckles as he shakes his head. "I assumed the FORM of the Bentari yes, but no I am an Ingrali. Here, let me show you our natural form, although you would have seen it in the briefing back at the other station."

He shifts again, and it isn't long before he is standing there in full mist form. Really, the only true way to describe it would be to say he was about a seven foot tall wall of mist or fog, standing much like any human would, but potentially see through and pass through. "This is what our true form is Vance. You may now understand why I do not wish the Ashotur in the medical bay to see it just yet. If his species has ever encountered one of my own, then there goes any element of surprise we have if it is needed later on should he be aware what he is up against now."

"Well, I was more talking about the impact itself. What would happen if you shifted into a human and something pierces your heart... will you die?" Thall's voice expresses curiosity. If there is any malice it's not detectable.

Draven pauses for a moment, not entirely certain. "Well I know I would feel the pain from the piercing, but I don't THINK it would kill me. What I think would happen is it would force my body to shift back to natural form, since I would lose the coherent form of the human from a 'mortal' wound. Truth be told we so very rarely come across anything that can really hurt us weapons wise that it has never been tested. I know we CAN be killed, but I have no idea what exactly, other than a supernova going off in my face, would be capable of it."

His eyes narrow slightly and he adds, "why, have you got an idea to test later?"

Thall whistles and shakes his head. "Oh no no, I'm just interested. You know how the Telarin are, always gathering data." He turns back to the monitor and jumps slightly. "Look at us talking, and all the while this machine has been busily at work. We've got a word, gentlemen. Kill. Bkkyar." The word sounds a bit like Thall is choking on something.
"Hm. It seems their word structure relies much less on vowels than Terran."
