Heading out down the desert road with their goodbyes said, Lani and Michael headed down the main road leading towards Southern Badaria. It would be a long journey through barren lands, the packed earthen road subject to regular storms, but luckily their first day wouldn't offer such dangers. The road itself was deserted, and though the physical exertion produced by the harsh environment was unpleasant to say the least, the two had supernatural constitutions to make the blistering heat and relentless sun more bearable.

They met no one on their first day, and could opt to camp or to continue, but as they entered their second the wind would pick up. Particles of sand washed over them, itchy and getting into every available nook and cranny, but there was little shelter to be had from it out here. Off in the distance, well away from the road, Michael would spot what looked like something large made out of wood, but it was hard to say without getting a closer look.

While the heat wasn't something Lani was used to back home, she had at least adjusted to it since leaving the farm, so their first day's travelling from Chander wasn't as gruelling as it could've been. The company gave her a much needed distraction from the weather as well, chatting idly with Michael whilst keeping an eye out on Rex as he ran around and explored just a little way from the young half demon. And once night began to set in Lani would recommend setting up camp for the night, though she would ultimately end up going with what Michael decided.

Though as a sandstorm began to pick up on their second day Lani found it almost unbearable. She tucked Rex safely under her hoodie and put her hood up to protect her face, but the demoness' legs were exposed, and the sand bit viciously at her flesh whilst she had trouble keeping her skirt down. Though once Michael mentioned the shelter in the distance Lani would eagerly jump at the chance at hiding there until the sandstorm died down, and pouting at any other decision.

Michael seems unfazed by the heat the first day, more focused on chatting with his traveling companion and keeping an eye out for anything suspicious on the road, his instincts still telling him to be wary. Once night falls, he suggests they get a little ways off the road and set up camp for the night, and finds himself quickly asleep.

The next day, his wings buzz with irritation as the sandstorm begins to kick up, wrapping his duster better around himself to shield him, though his bug-like chitin seems to be helping him deal with the annoying sand. On spotting the structure, he points it out to Lani. "Over there! Shelter! he calls over the biting wind, making his way towards it, hoping it was actually shelter and not just some trick of the eye.

Advancing away from the road and towards prospective shelter as best they could through the whipping winds and scathing sand, Lani and Michael found the going hard and getting harder. Eventually, after trudging through sand that swallowed their feet almost up to the knee at times, the pair managed to get to the wooden barricade and found an abandoned wagon. The canvas had been long ripped away, half of the branches from which it hung had broken and reached into the storm like defiant skeletal fingers, and three of the wheels had collapsed to leave it angled the way it was. There didn't seem to be much left of whatever it had carried, nothing more than a few shattered crates that were difficult to examine in detail with the storm raging, but they might try to find some shelter in the bed or beneath it if they so wished.

Lani's face lit up as the the three of them neared what ended up being a long abandoned wagon. It was in disrepair and looked to contain little other than a few boxes, but the young demoness didn't care. It would, hopefully, provide protection from the raging sandstorm, and right now that's what they needed.

"C'mon, let's get under!" She called out to Michael over the raging sandstorm, half running towards the wagon with Rex housed safely inside her hooded jacket. Once Lani had gotten to it she crouched low and made her way under the precariously angled vehicle, tucking herself under it as much as she could.

Michael curses as the sand sticks in the creases of his chitinous skin. "I swear this desert wants us dead!" he shouts over the howling wind of the storm, struggling to maintain his footing in the knee-deep sand as he follows Lani, trudging on and gripping the wagon the moment he reaches it and steadying himself. "But it would seem the fates have other plans!" he calls over the storm, before looking to find himself a spot of shelter as well, hopeful to at least be able to talk normal despite all the sand whipping and biting at the world around them.

Taking cover beneath the abandoned wagon, Lani and Michael would find some relief from the whipping sands, and while the noise of all that sand scouring the wood above them was horrendous it was a bit easier to hear themselves think with the barrier between them and the source of the noise. The storm didn't abate within the next few minutes, however, and the two would have the choice of whether they wanted to try and dig themselves in deeper, shore up their makeshift shelter somehow, try to wait out the storm or perhaps simply take the opportunity to get some sleep.

Lani coughed and sputtered as the two of them were buffered by the raging sandstorm as they climbed under the wooden structure, her body stinging from the coarse sand whipping at the young demoness' bare skin. Lani had hoped the sandstorm would calm down, but as they waited it showed no signs of dying down.

"What should we do now?" The half demon asked loudly over the sound of the raging winds. Sure, Lani had been in similar situations to this before when harsh snowstorms plagued the farm, but she had a house to run back to whenever she had been caught out in one. Now though, Lani was in unfamiliar territory, and had to rely on her companion.

Michael pulls as much of himself into the shelter as he can while leaving enough room for Lani, folding his wings close to his body and sighing. "If you want, you can sleep while I make sure this damn thing doesn't get blown away by the storm." the bee-man says, gently rapping his knuckles on their makeshift shelter, and looking to make sure it was solid enough to last them through the storm. "Last time I went through a storm like this, almost tore one of my antennae off. You do NOT want to be exposed."

"Sleep? In this wind?" Lani replied. Sure, the wind was somewhat quieter underneath the wooden structure, but it was still much too loud for her. And the sand made for terrible bedding. The young demoness had other concerns as well, the least of which was the sandstorm.

"I dunno if that's a good idea. What if someone or something finds us? What kinds of monsters are in the desert? Maybe it'd be better if we just wait this out, just in case."

Assuming both ended up keeping away, at least for as long as they could, the rest of the day would pass relatively uneventfully. The sandstorm raged for hours, and it grew cold as night fell. The raging sandblast wouldn't clear until well into the night, and Lani and Michael would have to choose whether they wanted to take a further rest here or continue on through the night. Their muscles were sore from lying stiffly beneath the cover of the wagon, which was now partially covered in a lay of sand, but they could return to the path, such as it was, even in the dark thank to their mutant demon gifted night vision.
