The penalty for stealing. Garret always had a constant reminder of what that was every time he looked as his fellow rogue, Yorin, a scrawny, scruffy, and eccentric youth a fair four years younger than him. From where they were seated in the alleyway of the Order Capital, within the grand walls that made up the very center of the Order's power, Garret and Yorin were warming their hands in the alleyway with the small fire they'd built. As Garret would always notice, Yorin only had one hand to warm over the fire. His stub was tucked into his coat to keep it warm while his fingers were what needed tending to with the direct heat.
"Oi, Garret," Yorin said over the fire. "You wanna hear the latest scoop, eh?" he asked. Yorin couldn't quite steal anymore after what had happened. A missing hand was a clear indicator that you were a thief, and crowds were told to keep clear to such a point that no matter where you are, it's almost always easy to pick you out. So Yorin resigned himself to digging up information of who might be carrying something valuable on their person, property, or otherwise, and giving Garret the 'scoop' with the intent on getting a cut of the profits. "I heard that there's a foreigner comin' through town alone, I did. A woman with hair the color of roses, bountiful breasts, and drop ya dead figure, she is. Carrying 'round her waist is a diamond and sapphire jewel, got to be worth 5 gold crowns at least, that's more than what honest folk 'round 'ere make in two years." he said. "She always walks 'round the town durin' the night, when she's all alone. It's easy pickin's mate," the one-handed fellow thief chuckled. "And I expect one gold out of that too," he added, sneering at Garret with the suspicion that he'd just take the money and bolt.
