Fire, ice, and lightning rained down on Makeda. It was too bad that Makeda was so tough. Though it did hurt her, it was obvious that the madwoman was reaching her limits. Her energy flagged. She looked close to falling, then she stepped behind a tree. She didn't step away and on inspection, she was no where to be seen. What was to be seen was Pira. She was fleeing, as usual. Unfortunately, she was fleeing towards the wagon. She had escaped the burning house and snuck behind Makeda while she was busy. It would be a close race if Makeda simply ran for her.

It was actually very fortunate that Makeda's armor had been destroyed. If it had still been whole, she would have been far slower. Pira seemed subdued. After that incident. Maybe it was a trick. Maybe she was just waiting for Makeda to let her guard down. Makeda didn't know. But when she did notice was that Pira was complaining a lot about her head being itchy. She was even saying this instead of insulting Makeda. They found out why after a few days. They hadn't dropped their guard but they seemed at least willing to entertain the idea that Makeda might be telling the truth. The shop keeper widened his eyes a little and said "Free service." There was a hum. A field of energy materialized. It created a box for each of them. The rope that connected Makeda to Pira was cut in two. The shopkeeper scratched his head and looked at the obedience collar that Makeda had placed on the counter. "Alright, I'm going to call the guard. They'll sort you out. Meanwhile, I'll work on this collar. If you turn out to be in the right, you can come back and pay for it. Otherwise I'll sell it." He didn't ask for Makeda's confirmation before leaving the shop.

A few minutes later, a couple of guards entered the store. "Put your weapons on the ground and stay quiet." Pira began to yell but got nothing but a stern look and a repetition of the earlier statement. Soon, both Makeda and Pira were in iron cuffs and hobbles. They were brought to a short tower at the edge of town and placed in separate cells. A guard came in a few minutes later to get a statement from both Makeda and Pira. Pira repeated her earlier lie. Then an older gentlemen, clade in full plate armor, came and sat on a wooden chair, looking at the two of them. "Unfortunately, our truthfinder is sick and probably won't be up and about for a few more days. You'll be staying here until then." Pira pleaded with him but he seemed unmoved. "I apologize but this isn't the first time we've had to deal with this kind of situation. We were lucky to get Peter. He's odd and prone to sickness but he'll be in soon. Until then, make yourselves comfortable." He left.

For a while, Pira sobbed. Then Makeda began to hear a grating sound, like something on stone. She couldn't see Pira, obviously.

When they arrived at the tower and thier cells, she listened to the guard explain the situation. At hearing Pira's pleas, however, her patience was near it's fucking end, "OH FOR GODS SAKES, SHUT UP ALREADY! Neither of us going anywhere for a while so you may as well save your energy." She complained. Makeda sat her self down on the bed/cot that was provided for her in the cell, she was doing her best to ignore Pira's crying when she heard the scraping sound. She would put her ear closer to the sound, she figured Pira or another prisoner was trying to break their way out, "Look. The smartest thing to do in this situation is let itself play out. Breaking out will only get you a search posse and wanted posters. Neither of which will make your life any easier. And just what kind of chip do you have on your shoulder against me or my kind anyway? I never met such a bigoted bitch in my whole life!"

Whenever the guards got close, of course, the scraping ceased. They were fed some basic meals, though the money for the meals was taken out of Makeda's coin purse. Then the second day, Makeda heard a clank of metal striking stone, before the sound of something being scraped back in place. Before she could do anything else, the door was opened and a loud sneeze echoed through the hallway. Apparently Peter was here. The goblin was followed by the captain of the guard, the older man from before.

Once outside, she saw the guards were running in all directions, attempting to locate Pira. It didn't take them long. Within a few minutes, a shackled Pira was thrown at Makeda's feet. The captain shook his head. "Go ahead and do with her what you want. Just respect the local decency. We've got a room for you at the inn for the inconvenience." Makeda had her stuff returned to her. The artificer had the collar waiting for her. In total, Makeda has lost 30 denarii.
