The stars aren't right!(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

"Have fun." Aventane replies, following her to the shop and starting to work the print.

Helena wanders into the Quartier Savant and finds the streets fairly empty, save for cleaners and guards, with only few nobles out at this time of the morning. Making her way to the opposite end of the town, she soon finds the right place. A mixture of a garden and a traditional tavern, Gobelet de Fleurs carries a sign of a cup filled with flowers on its front. Beyond the windowed wall, vines of flowers hang from the pillars that hold up the glass ceiling. The tavern, it seems, has just opened, though there are no customers inside as of yet.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

It was open, she was going in. But honestly.... she was suddenly worried the heir was a bit of a poof.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Stepping inside Helena can see that beyond the first dozen tables there are some more secluded tables for those wishing for privacy. A servant immediately comes to Helena as she enters, clearly appraising her looks. "Welcome, traveller, to Gobelet de Fleurs. Where would you like to be seated?"

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Traveler? ooo you poor thing, you've never seen a person of standing in the world without a rediculous Wig have you. You realize that's because people have gotten too lazy to properly care for their hair she said, teasing a little, before remembering the gardens. It's true though, I've come quite a ways to visit your city and so far I'm smitten. she said, smiling brightly and looking around. Somewhere with a good view, I need to watch and learn a little bit before making introductions, make sure I haven't missed any small manners and courtesies that have to be observed. she said, gesturing for the waitress to lead the way.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

The waitress offers a small curtsy before leading Helena to a table near the bar. "What would you like, miss? Tea? Coffee? Something to eat?" From her table, Helena can see the bartender - a sturdy figure with a mean scar on his face - running an inventory on the bottles.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Sitting at the offered table, Helena spotted the bartender and smiled at him warmly and without faking anything, the poor bastard looked like he'd had a hell of a time so far and this was his... Softer later in life job, though he wasn't that old. He'd earned it she imagined, letting her mind wander for a second. Turning back to the waitress, she smiled again.

To be entirely honest, I've been craving a good cup of coffee for a little too long, and I'd really appreciate one. Helena said, glancing around and just seeming, happy with her place in the universe. She thought that the bar's name was stupid certainly, but so far it was clean, nice, had a wonderful garden that she was forced to admit she liked so far, and she couldn't find a single fault with the place. And if you'd be so kind, would you mind telling me if your garden has Roses? I'm partial to them, I think they're just... Well, there's no other flower quite like them. she asked wondering if she could live out a little girl fantasy of having tea in a garden surrounded by roses with some dreamy gentleman. It was a good day so far!

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

"Of course, miss. We have an entire room dedicated to them. Would you like to visit it?" The waitress asks, smiling in return before fetching Helena her coffee along with a small can of fresh cream. The black coffee smells delicious, even more so when it mixes with the scents of various flowers here.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

I'd actually enjoy nothing more. After my coffee, I don't want this delicious scent to interfere with the flowers. Thank you very much. Helena said, taking the coffee and sipping, shuddering softly and moaning in a lust inducing musical note after that first taste.

Smiling, she simply sat and waited for now.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

The waitress gives Helena another small curtsy, staying where she is until the door opens again. Then she goes to greet the newcomers, two tall, dark men with fashionable clothes and thick moustaches. "Le Comte d'Ulen, Le Baron d'Issaire. Welcome. Your usual orders, I assume?" she says, curtsying to each in turn. The count nods. "And make sure we're not interrupted, girl." The two men follow the waitress into one of the backrooms from whence she hurries back, glancing at Helena before waiting for the bartender to finish the drinks and taking them to the two nobles.

As Helena is finishing her coffee, the waitress reappears. "If you'll follow me, please?" The rose room has almost intoxicating smell, with a table for two in each of the corners. The glass walls are almost covered with vines, each growing half a dozen flowers, and the different plants are systemically ordered, with one corner surrounded by roses of deepest red while the opposing one has roses that are almost white.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena made a note to slowly torture and kill the two rude assholes who'd just come in, and she would use their souls as fucking fuel to destroy everything they knew and loved with absolute disdain for their way of life.

But the rose room beckoned and she went, staring in slackjawed amazement at the roses, walking slowly around the room and seeming like she had found paradise. Though there was one glaring problem. They were all organized. It took away from the natural beauty of the flowers themselves, sorting them like that. Still, the smell was divine and the petals were soft and rich with the valuable oil that roses produced, leaving Helena momentarily speechless.

Momentarily.

This bitch was never speechless for long.

Turning to the waitress she put her hand on her hip. Doesn't it bother you? Being treated like that? I for one would remove the genitals of any man who talked to me like that. she asked her, seeming stunned at the way the two men earlier had spoken to the serving girl.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

The waitress shrugs, seeming to be confused. "Why would it? They're nobles and I'm just a serving girl. Besides, they're probably just having a bad day. That, or they have something more important in their mind. Besides, Le Comte d'Ulen always gives generously on the day before harvest festival and d'Issaire is very pleasant to have around after a couple drinks."

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena smiles softly and pats the girls shoulder a bit. Sounds like perhaps they're just a bit gruff then, rough around the edges. Still, I say it because were you and I to cut our hands, we'd bleed the same color. We're all brought into this world equals, and we will leave it the same. I just.... you seem like a sweet thing. Helena said, brushing the flower petals gently.

except me. I'm better then anyone alive currently. I. am the greatest thing since sliced bread. Helena said, pulling a goofy face for a bit and breathing deep of the roses. Thanks for showing me this, would you mind terribly if I asked you to look out for a patron here I'd like to meet? Pierre de Montague. Could you send him to me in here when he arrives? It would mean a lot to me Miss.... I'm so sorry! I never got your name! Helena said, tilting her head.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

"As you say, miss." the waitress says, smiling. "Oh, I'm Jeannette. And of course. Though he probably won't arrive until the sun is near the horizon. Do you want anything else?"

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

That's perfectly fine Jeannette. And thank you for taking care of me. I'd love another cup of coffee and outside that, to be left to daydream for my time at my table. Though please, if someone wants my attention they're more then welcome to join me. My name is Helena. Helena answers, shaking the girls hand before wandering back to her initial table and sitting down, daydreaming easily while she watched everyone and anyone who entered and was within sight. Taking mental notes.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

"Nice to meet your acquaintance, Miss Helena." Jeannette replies, shaking her hand with a smile before getting her another cup of coffee and going back to waiting for other customers.

For a couple hours, a steady trickle of customers comes and goes, keeping the tavern in business, and Jeannette greets each of them by name. Some of them brush her off and merely make their orders, others stop to exchange a few words with her. A few frown at Helena as though wondering whether she ought to be here. Then another waitress comes in and Jeannette leaves for lunch. While Jeannette is gone, a young man with dark blue jacket and matching pants comes to Helena, carrying a book in his hand. "I must say, it's delightful to see some people who aren't slaves to fashion here. Do you mind if I sit with you? It seems that my usual table is taken."

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena watches the comings and goings of the tavern, and returned each questioningly look, each baleful glare with a smile from a face that brought men and women to their knees with lust while her current Not in fashion clothing highlighted her body beautifully. She made certain each motion of her hand, each pass of her arm or turn of her head, was done with as much grace as she could muster, making it clear their fashion, was entirely inferior, to her raw physical appeal. And always would be.

Being approached however, Helena smiled softly and gestured with a hand. I would love the company, and I never understood such things as trends and fashion. Why do what everyone is doing, are they so very desperate to conform to a set of ideals originally not their own? I don't understand the idiocy of it. Besides... Why would I mess with what I've already been blessed with? she asked, leaning back slowly and tilting her head, her hair slipping down over her left eye while she smiled if only to show off the curve of her neck and shoulder, along with the lines of her face, her single revealed eye alight with playful intentions and mischief.

But where are my own manners! I'm Helena, it's my pleasure, please sit. she said, introducing herself and gesturing again at the seat.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

"Ah, but how else would we show off. After all, anyone can wear fashionable clothes or look good, but it takes an expensive tailor and natural charm to do both at the same time." the man replies, sitting down and putting his book on the table. "I'm Jade. Nice to meet you." As he gestures to the waitress, she swiftly brings him a cup of something that smells herbal, which he accepts with a smile and a nod. The book is titled: "Of Economic Prosperity and the Lower Classes."

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

O my, reading on how a massive lower class of impoverished benefits the elite of society without any meaningful way for the poor to strike back at their wealthy overlords? Helena asked, flailing an arm for another cup of coffee from the waitress.

Sorry about that outburst, I really disapprove of seeing those on the lowest tier, the true backbone of a functioning society suffering despite it being upon their backs to uplift the ungrateful wealthy. While not always true, it happens far, far too often. she said candidly, her college bias against wealthy people coming back easily along with the conversations and arguments she remembered. That of course is not to imply or make assumptions, but seeing the title of that book I felt Compelled to say something, perhaps know if a Kindred spirit sits across from me known as Jade. she said, teasing him a little bit before sipping her coffee and considering his words about fashion.

I would think that it would be easy to show off in meaningful ways. I show off with the obvious, by simply being. I'm vain and proud and I make it well known without reserve, while others try hopelessly to shame or mock me, while their envy is apparent to anyone else observing. I've seen people show off with skill and ability, with knowledge, and all of that is more important, has more substance, then say, a fancy coat and a wig. How would you do it? she asked him, smiling and raising an eyebrow.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

The waitress swiftly brings Helena another cup of coffee. "I carry books that make me look smart." Jade replies with a wink. "Interestingly enough, the author does make some interesting points about the distribution of wealth. I'm not sure I agree with all of them, but it does seem obvious that a controlled effort to increase the living standards of the peasantry would benefit everyone, as happier people work harder and are less likely to revolt. Of course, the governor - or rather, the council of brilliance - has already taken steps to prevent another uprising, but in my mind making sure that the poor have a roof over their heads and enough to eat isn't enough."

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Ha. And while that may be true, having a roof, a meal... most people yearn for more. many people, almost everyone, wants so desperately to believe they're a special snowflake. The reality is opposite, and of course that leads to resentment, bitterness, a powder keg waiting for a spark of sufficient size and heat to trigger it. Helena said, gesturing around them.

But there's another problem, if everyone prospers, in the end, those people who enjoy Status acquired through wealth? No longer have that status. Can no longer treat people like Jeanette as servants or worse. And so many people refuse to give that up, cling to the belief that their wealth makes them superior to others. It honestly sickens me. It is one thing to be wealthy, another to believe it makes you a king or a god. Helena said openly, finding Jade so far to be an interesting person and the first person she'd met so far that she'd tried to engage in an actual discussion about well... anything. it was refreshing.
