Re: Trapped in the Underdark ~ Out of Character discussion
Vitalist Class is the best healing class made thus far, though it is third party. Alone it's strong, combined with other healing capable classes like Paladins or Clerics they become amazing. Even without the heals, their ability to efficiently stack large amounts of temporary hp on allies is amazingly life saving.
As a cleric, healing... Isn't going to be your strong suit until you get access to the Heal spell itself. Most cure spells are simply better off as wands and the cleric positions their spells more for status removal, combat buffs and utility and summons for maximum efficiency. Fact is, unless you're a Vitalist or using Heal, in combat healing is too inefficient to matter unless the healing done keeps someone from dying.
This doesn't count for Paladins though, who's ability to Lay on Hands on themselves is amazingly powerful if put toghether properly. (Tiefling Favored Class+Fae Foundling allows for massive self heals per use)
Personally for clerics I spec for war clerics jsut because the cleric has really limited options otherwise. Most their best spells have no saves so they don't need much wis, channel energy is a joke without a Vitalist to make it good or EXTREME specialisation towards it, and using their own buffs they become an incredibly solid faux martial while still wielding many powerful problem solving skills.
But that's me. I'll have to do some investigation in the Healer's Handbook but just off top of my head... As a cleric, you really can't be that great a healer in combat. Damage just outramps healing too easily.
