As for compressing time, I can't give you all the details, not that I even understand it all, but the algorithms simply skip any time you would be unconscious and speed up time when nothing important is happening - if you were to spend a day walking, for example, you wouldn't grow bored since that time would be compressed to half an hour at most, even though it's unlikely you would notice anything, unless you knew what to look for. Actually I'm surprised you were in for only a day of game time, most of the time one session is several days in length unless the user stops early."
