The lower tables seem to contain the youths. There are three larger groups filling the three largest tables, one which seems to be exclusively rather loud men, the second seems to be full of gossip, with majority of women, and the third is couples. There are also smaller groups and pairs and single people as well as several empty tables suitable for one or two persons. The platform seems reserved for older lords and ladies, though some younger people are sitting there as well.

Natalie strolled about idly among the crowd as she observed the lower tables containing the younger folk invited to the baron's ball. The couple's tables weren't for her, given that she was alone, and seating herself at a table and waiting for someone sounded boring, while sitting with an already established couple just sounded rude. Passing by one of the mirror's decorating the hall, Natalie caught sight of herself and paused momentarily, admiring her reflection. 'I look frickin fine in this dress!' she thought to herself, and then started walking with a noticeable sway of her hips.

While she might normally have preferred to join the rowdier table at which the men were seated, Natalie knew enough about this time period to guess that such would put on a bad appearance. As such, she resigned herself to going over to the women's table and listening to the others gossip. Even so, she walked past the men's table with a strut and half an eye on them, wondering if she'd get any interested glances. Of course, unless someone stopped her, she would walk by regardless of any garnered interest and go over to the table at which the young women were seated and ask if she could join them. Assuming they did, she would take a seat and adopt a pleasant smile, listening to their conversation in case it contained anything that might interest her.

As Natalie struts past the men's table, she gets a number looks, a couple of them appreciative, but most of them more...speculative.

As she approaches the ladies' table, she sees the conversation centered around a particularly bold looking woman, who instantly turns to look at Natalie. The woman has blonde hair and she's more handsome than beautiful and every inch in charge. "Sit down, you. What's your name?"

"I'm Natalie," she replied in a friendly tone whilst taking a seat. There was a brief pause in which she sized up the blond woman and all of those gathered around her, and then Natalie turned her gaze back to the apparent leader of this particular circle and asked; "And you are?"

There are ten other women around the table. Though each of them wears a fine dress - one ravenhaired woman with a red dress looking almost as if it's made from flames particularly catches Natalie's attention - none are as extravagant as the blonde's dress, which is a particularly gaudy creation, designed to display wealth more than style.

When Helena turns back to the blonde, she notices a small frown on her lips. "I'm Juliet of House Galand. You're with Count von Svarthain, right? Why did he bring you here?"

Natalie takes note of each of the other women, though her eyes linger for a moment longer on the raven-haired beauty in the flame-red dress, to whom she offered a slightly more genuine smile as well. Some people didn't know how to wear a fine dress, or how to assemble one as in the case of the blonde, but she clearly did, and even if she wouldn't get to act on it Natalie could still admire her for a moment.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and Natalie's attentions were forcibly diverted to the blond woman in the gaudy dress. "Yes I am," Natalie replied smoothly, maintaining a friendly demeanor and tone despite where she thought that this was going, "And I believe that he brought me here as his partner, in repayment for my loyal service to him. Why do you ask, Lady Juliet?"

"How unusual. Well, let me introduce you to the others." One by one, Juliet introduces the others. The one with red dress is Minerve Raureif, and apparently a heir to count Raureif.

As Juliet finishes with the introductions, the waiters start arriving with the dinner. A finely crafted meal of thinly sliced meat in wine sauce and with vegetables is laid in front of Natalie. Noticeably, she's served before the others, causing Juliet to frown again.

Natalie greets each of them in turn with a respectful nod, trying to commit names and titles to memory with only marginal success. When the waiter arrives with dinner, she gives him a nod of thanks and then waits until everyone else had had their food given to them before carefully taking up her utensils. She'd been to official dinners before, but never anything quite so fancy as this, and all that she could do was ensure that she didn't make a fool out of herself.

The others at the table except for Juliet look at each other meaningfully, some of them even smiling slightly as the rest of the meals arrive, and the seemingly endless chatter among the tables silences as everyone gets their meals and starts eating slowly. The food is followed by wine, though Natalie notices that it's rather weak compared to the usual stuff.

Natalie introduced herself properly before eating, and then fell silent as they ate their meals and chased it with some fairly weak wine. All in all, it had been a fairly dull if harmless affair, which she couldn't say that she much minded after the funeral that morning. After casually draining her glass of wine, Natalie folded her arms and legs and leaned back slightly, smiling slightly and waiting for what was to happen next. Events like this were generally fairly regimented, or at least she thought they were, and she suspected that dinner was followed by the dance floor opening up, perhaps preceded by the host making some sort of speech. Hell if she knew for certain though.

Though few people are still eating and drinking, servants come to gather the dishes off from others. The orchestra starts to play, and the baron Natalie met earlier sets off to the dance floor, followed by some other pairs.

With a smile, Natalie rises from her feet as the orchestra starts to play and begins searching about the ballroom for a partner to join the dance with.

Natalie sees many men apparently without partners, some in groups and a few alone, but no-one approaches her just yet. Several of them are handsome, some ugly, most in between, and each is wearing fine clothes in variety of cuts and colours. She can spot at least one woman fetching a man to dance with, though mostly men are the ones initiating the dance.

Natalie strode about leisurely, stretching her legs and humming in time with the music. She watched curiously as people paired off to dance, noting that sometimes the women were the ones asking the men. She eyed a few potential candidates for herself, but rather than base her choice on appearance, Natalie kept her eyes peeled for a man that looked to be of a more athletic form and light on his feet. She was looking for a good dance partner, not for a sexual one, and so physical appearance didn't mean much to her. If she found one that was appealing soon enough, Natalie wouldn't even hesitate to approach and ask (as courteously as she possibly could) for a dance. Of course, if someone approached her first, that was just as well.

A lone man wearing clothes in deep shade of blue and with´hawkish nose attracts Natalie's attention. He appears to be athletic, and he's looking around with a wine glass in his hand and appearing bored. As Natalie approaches him, he stands up with a bit of flourish, placing the half-empty glass on the table and giving her a half-way charming smile. As Natalie asks him to dance, he gives her a light bow, offering her his arm. "Certainly, my dear."

Curtsying properly when issuing her request, Natalie then smiled and took the man's arm when it was offered. Leading the man with the hawkish nose to the dance floor, Natalie allowed him to lead if he liked, being unfamiliar with the dances that might be appropriate in the game but happy to try out whatever was offered. She'd always enjoyed dancing, and had even become fairly good at it, but not so good that she was willing to experiment haphazardly when she had the option of being shown the steps first.

The man leads Natalie in the dance confidently, easing her into the steps while holding her close enough to whisper hints to her discreetly, clearly taking care not to embarrass her. As the dance continues, he turns out to be an enjoyable partner, though perhaps not as excellent or graceful as he first appeared to be.

As the first song stops, another one starts, this one slower and less upbeat, making it easy for Natalie to keep up with her partner.

Natalie let the man lead graciously, taking to the dance quite easily thanks to his instructions. When it was over, she gave him a light bow and said; "Thank you!" When the second song came up, this one slower, she opted to take more of a lead in the dance, marching him through similar steps to a dance that she knew but shaming them to the music being played.

Natalie's partner seems bemused as she tries to lead, but he goes along with it, managing the steps with the same skill as the first one. After several more dances, Natalie and her partner and both covered with thin sheen of sweat, and the air of the hall starts feeling stale and hot.

Perhaps noticing Natalie's feelings, the man with a hawkish nose stops Natalie as another song starts. "Would you like to step outside for a breath of fresh air, miss?"

Slightly tired but quite happy, Natalie nods and replied; "Surely, my lord."
