Game CG dumps have gone on for a fairly long time.
I don't have an issue with distributing game CG and do my own extraction and research at times.

But what about the actual resources that go into making the game? Sprites, animations, etc.

I usually don't amuse the idea of distributing those kinds of game resources. There is little value to them in terms of fapping material (I suppose you can get off two 32x32 pixel sprites going at it, if that is your thing), and all it really does is end up getting used in others' own projects, with or without credits, and may be sold off in commercial works.

Devs get their games pirated, and then get their hard-work stolen for others' own profit? Just doesn't work out.

Re: Your thoughts on game resource dumping

It's an unavoidable problem..

If they can't protect their game well enough, they should expect to get pirated a little..

The better a game is, the worse it gets pirated..

Take kurovadis for example.. It wasn't more than a week after he had stated he was releasing his game for people to buy, when I just happened to notice a fairly popular Hentai forum distributing that full version for free.. ... Blatantly.. In front of everyone.. Without even trying to hide it from google..

It happens.. The best protection against piracy, is idiocy.. A lot of people would LOVE to pirate the game, but only a small fraction of lurkers actually know how to, WITHOUT getting a handful of viruses jammed in their hard drive... That being said, if everyone were smart pirates, there would be a lot less eager devs in the world..

Just thank your lucky stars the bad guys are always stupid.. Most of the time..

And even then, some of the smart ones (Like the people in this forum) show mercy, and will usually just buy the game ANYWAY, to support the dev..

So in conclusion..

Yes, it's wrong, but that doesn't mean much in the internet..

If you want someone to point a finger at.. You might want to invest in a pointing rod, because everyone is guilty..
But it's a controlled chaos around here.. The dogs can bark all they want, so long as they don't draw any blood..
Then they have to be destroyed, and the owner gets stuck in court.

...

I've always been confused by that term.. "Destroyed".. Every time I hear that, I always imagine the dog just being chained to a post while a cop aims a rocket launcher at it, or a giant ray gun.. Why say destroy?.. They're just killing it, they're not disintegrating it, or blowing it up, or throwing it in a furnace, they're just stopping it's heart.

Something I wonder about is why people keep insisting on reinventing the wheel over and over again. Why make brand new 2d tiles of grass for the 107,419 time? It's retarded. If anything we could use more shared resources in games. It would lower development cost when you don't have to make redundant items over and over and over again.

You could even modify them a bit so they appear different, but use the same core items. Focusing new work on specific areas that actually require or benefit from unique design such as lead characters.

I'm more focused on original character art, design, and sprites over map assets.

Yes, a tile of grass is a tile of grass no matter how creative you get.

Depends on the game type. If someone made their own sprites and sprite animations from scratch, then yeah, stealing or modifying them without permission is messed up. But if the person just made minimal edits to the default RPGMaker sprite set then that's something completely different.

No, it's not -__-

As for piracy and stolen resources,
1. Kurovadis has been pirated thousands of times. I'm fine.

2. If somebody steals resources from another author to use in their own game, chances are the end result won't be good enough to constitute concern from the original creator anyway. It either means they lack the skill, or are too lazy to create their own. (RPG maker is different, it's like a royalty free set of resources.)

And as long as we're referring to H-games,
3. If the product is good and it contains content from another author, DLsite can be contacted and the product removed, since products on DLsite cannot contain content not owned by the author.

Pause....then what about games like Tifa Tan and Tifa Tan x2, several such dragon quest games, etc.?

...Unless of course these people have somehow obtained licensing, dlsite has licensing, or concepts and copy written characters are exempt from the rule?

Japan is pretty lax when it comes to fan works like Doujinshi. The culture surrounding parody in Japan is just different when it comes to intellectual properties.

However, very rarely do Doujins actually contain assets from the source material. Even parodies in games tend to use original assets meant to simply mimic whatever it's a parody of.

I don't have much to say on the idea of piracy mostly because its all be said before.

As for ripping a hentai game apart for animations/cg that really depends on a few things. Is the game good, is the porn part of the game or do you just get it as a reward for playing the game/ completing challenges. how easy is it to get to the porn?

I honestly don;t feel bad about tearing a game apart for just the porn when its worked in as something that happens in the story or at certain points in time, or GOR's since most of the time their attached to enemies making you play through the game just so you can lose to that new enemy. But realy that part is more up to you as the consumer then anything else

Re: Your thoughts on game resource dumping

If the game is good i have no issues with paying for it but problem is that i cant buy games of the japanese dl site because they wont accept my visa and they wont provide me with a diffrent payment method that fits me therefor i have no issues with taking theire games for free.

As for the sites that takes my visa: If the game is good i will spend money on it even donate to the dev. If the game doesnt have a demo so i can try it then i will take it for free (if i take a game for free and i find it to be good, i will donate money to the dev).

Re: Your thoughts on game resource dumping

If you want to steal resources you have sites like spriter's resource or such, where you can get almost anything you may ever need and of a much higher quality than what you get on your average hentai game.

For some games, I could careless about the cg if I could get a look at the sprites and backgrounds without playing the damn game (eternal fantasy comes to mind)

In my case, and that of many people, game resources are used as learning material, not stealing; look at an animation from this char and from that one over there, make your own using what you learned.

Also, about the grass, GRASS IS FUCKING HARD AND CHANGES HOW EVERYTHING AROUND IT LOOKS!!!!!! (I don't want to paint more grass boss)

Definitely not. There's a vast difference between a Pokemon grass tile and other grass tiles. Each is going to have the distinctive look from that style of art, and having a generic tile used in another game is going to stick out like a sore thumb in a game drawn in even a slightly different style. A team can work on a single style, for sure, but it's not something that would be done easily without massive work by the artist to keep consistent with those "generic" styles.

Re: Your thoughts on game resource dumping

Like most devs don't steal half of the sprites/animations/whatever on the internet.
