Re: Member Announcments Thread

Wait, they make laptops with comparable power to desktops now? That's news to me, since the specs I've read for the new top of the line laptops are around the same as my year old desktop. With two exceptions: my desktop only has 2 gigs of RAM, and I've got a low quality graphics card.

What are you doing buying a computer from a manufacturer in the first place? o_O

Re: Member Announcments Thread

I don't, I built mine from parts, cost maybe $600, which is why it's still capable of playing Fallout 3 on high graphics. Can't get laptop parts though, not as far as I know.

Re: Member Announcments Thread

Oh. Well... you can. I didn't build my laptop (it's my guilty pleasure from apple), but I've messed around with them, and the only difference in building them is that their parts tend to be slightly more expensive and a bit harder to put together, due to the cramped spaces.

Side, slightly off-track point:
Granted, what we're talking about here, my points fall apart at the extreme end of things. The latest, newest, most cutting edge stuff will always be desktop. Fact is, you can pack more stuff into a desktop. Liquid cooling, SLI, blah blah blah. But the thing is, you need unlimited money for stuff like that to happen. Sure I can build a computer that will be better than any laptop will be for the next five years. Only thing is, it will cost $30k. I'm talking about the practical applications of these things, and supercomputers are a bit beyond the spending budgets of Mr. Average Joe looking for a personal computer to use for gaming, work, whatever - personal stuff. And practical applications are all that really matter, because I'm willing to lay money down that nobody on this forum has a limitless budget to buy a computer that powerful.

On that note, you think you can to fix the thread title, as it should be the "Member Announcements Thread"?

I have an announcement as well.

Penn Fraser Jillette told me to , and I learned a valuable lesson about shutting up once in a while.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Wow... debates in here. Anyway, I'm back. I've had like 12 hours of sleep out in Alberta over the past 10 days, at most 2 meals a day (of shitty rations... and cold most of the time), unorganized training, stupid officers who don't know the difference between a shit and a shingle (much less what actual warfare in Afghanistan is like), and stupid NCOs who are too much by the book to actually do my fucking job. Also, was my first time in command. Guh... gayest ex ever.

But yeah... back. Yay!

Heh, you remind me of my dad whenever he'd get home from some idiotic training assignment where he'd have to go dress up and play soldier for a while (he was in the band, for crying out loud!)

'God damn commander, god damn rain, god damn" etc etc etc.

Always gave me a chuckle. My sympathies to you.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Thank you... but still, my commander said that VPS's were for cowards. Now I know most of you don't know what that is (if any, not sure if American military uses them or not) but it's essentially an IED searching formation that's saved my lived numerous times, and people who haven't performed it have been killed.... guh.

If your going to train us, do it fucking right.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Oh come now Sinful surely you've all figured out to just say "hooah" (or whatever term you use) to the dumb ossifers, and then you all go and practice what you're supposed to.

Personally if an ossifer told me VPS's were for cowards; I'd lock, load, point my rifle at the back of his head and tell him to go first then.

Oh and welcome back, glad to hear training went normal.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Gyrenes actually say Oorah, army says Hooah. Though it probably sounds the same to anyone who hasn't really heard both.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Well I always play games with subtitles on and I'm pretty sure that's the way it was spelled; could just be my mistake for thinking they were Marines when they were regular army. Since pretty much my only criteria for judging if a military person is a Marine or not is if they keep a rock in their pocket for a spare brain. (Yeah, I know, not all marines are retarded, no offense to anybody in here who's actually a marine, or knows marines, yadda yadda)

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Marine camouflauge is different. They have MARPAT which is desert like I believe, whilst regular American Army has ACU which is more grayish. The military is Prototype is Marines, but game makers don't always know those subtle differences.

And us Canucks say something more along the lines of "Huuh"... very simple, pretty much just a grunt.

Re: Member Announcements Thread

Well that's pretty much all our's sounds like, since if we're saying it it's not actual motivation.

Marines the few, the proud, the dead motherfuckers on the beach. Actually I would much rather hang out with the marines then the airforce. I mean come on they bitch when they get out to the field and no one has set up their tents yet. Meanwhile me and mine are wondering what a tent is.
