Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

What, the bloody hell is going on? Granth says, as the noise fully wake him. Then, getting up and letting mana flow through his arm into his fist, he looks around for the source of the noise, Whoever the fuck is being so loud is about to get a fist full of lightning to the face!

Slams her fist into the thing underneath her wildly, "I don't care... what you are...!" (unarmed attack while maintaining grapple)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Malacet stayed with the group as they went for the clearing, not wanting to expose herself too much to whatever was waiting for them.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Initiative:
Carella: 1d20+4 = 7+4 = 11
Trex: 1d20+3 = 14+3 = 17
?????: 1d20+10 = 15+10 = 25
(Rest of group gets their rolls later.)

1d20+14 = 4+14 = 18 vs 1d20+13 = 12+13 =25
18 vs DC25 = Failure

The creature continues to try to throw Carella off, but she easily holds on as it still seems rather clumsy.

Trex, confused by what she saw, knowing that such a creature shouldn't be able to survive so far North, decided that he need more information, and tried to detect what sort of creature they were dealing with. (Detect Evil.) He senses Carellas own dark nature, but the aura exuding from the creature underneath was just as foul, if not more so. Not wanting to hit her, and still confused by the strange lizardfolks appearance, he does not attempt to attack it, but steps closer to assist if necessary.

1d20+13 = 9+13 = 22 vs DC21 = hit.
2d6+4 = 8+4 = 12 non-lethal damage

Carella manages to land a hit on whatever it was she had, in the light its reptilian features were obvious, but the blow doesn't seem to phase it much.

(The group is now 50 ft from the fight, 40 from the clearing. Carella is grappling it, Trex stands 5 feet away.)

Continues to swing at the beast, "You're not... going to throw me off that easily...!" she continues to punch the lizard with her fists (non-lethal)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

(Going fast because no one else is there yet, will wait until everyone has posted after this one to continue.)

1d20+14 = 13+14 = 27 vs 1d20+13 = 4+13 = 17
Carella is thrown off.

As she prepares to send another blow at the creatures head, it grabs her arms, and with surprising strength, rises to its feet and tosses her away. It then turns toward Trex and opens its mouth, showing rows of sharp teeth and two long clear fangs.

Trex then shouts; "Monster!" and slashes at it with all his might (smite evil, full attack.)

1d20+12+2 = 7+12+2 = 21 vs DC27 = miss.
1d20+7+2 = 3+7+2 = 12 vs DC27 = miss.

The lizardfolk dodges both of Trexs swings with ease, and his righteous might is replaced by frustration.

1d20+9 = 18+9 = 27 vs DC27 = hit
2d6+4 = 3+5+4 = 12 damage

Angered by the creature bucking her off, Carella jumps to her feat and kicks the creature hard in the stomach. The blow lands hard, and would have doubled any normal opponent over in pain, but still doesn't seem to have much of an effect, as the lizardman barely moves, but it does show surprise that her blow hurt as much as it did. (Damn monks and their ki strike.)

Meanwhile, the rest of the party arrives at the edge of the clearing and watch as the creature avoids Trex attacks and nearly ignore Carellas.

(Lizardfolk??? has taken 12 damage. Trex and Carella are in melee with the creature, rest of party is 10 feet away.)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Lets out a yell as she tries to grapple the lizard again, annoyed at how agile the stupid thing was, "Get back over here!"

Seeing the strange lizard beast avoid Trex' blows with ease Holi rushes at it with his axe drawn, "We be right behind ya'." He yells to the two engaged in combat with the beast. (Charge and attempt to knock creature prone with overrun)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

And they keep getting in my way. If this hits them it's their fault, not mine. Granth mutters before shaping mana into an small orb of electricty in his right hand and flinging it at the lizardfolk.

(Orb of electricity, lesser CA p.116)

Malacet reaches the clearing and takes in the situation at a glance, then conjures another flaming orb and sends it at the creature with a wave of her hand.

((brimstone blast, again. i cant wait until i get more options :) ))

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

(While we're waiting, here's initiative. Carella, Trex, and lizardguy keep their spots.)

Ryu: 1d20+4 = 3+4 = 7
DmRonny: 1d20+3 = 7+3 = 10
Pheonix: 1d20+1 = 19+1 =20
Shrike: 1d20+3 = 13+3 = 16
Aramil: 1d20+5 = 15+5 = 20
Bolm: 1d20+0 = 20

So, order is: Lizardman, Trex, Loli, Pheonix, the other NPCs, Shrike, Dmronny, and Ryu.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Tod wakes up grogily, grumbling to himself, following the rest to the fight. Once the lizardman was in range, we waved his hands a bit and chanted, launching a ball of acid at the lizardman.

(Cast Acid Splash at the lizardman. Also, am I correct in thinking my spells per day haven't recovered?)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

(Correct.)

1d20+14 = 14+14 = 28 vs DC18 = hit
1d20+12 = 1+12 = automatic failure
1d20+9 = 13+9 = 22 vs DC18 = hit
1d20+7 = 14+7 = 21 vs DC18 = hit
1d6+7 = 5+7 = 12
1d6+7 = 4+7 = 11
1d6+7 = 6+7 = 13
Carella takes 36 damage

The lizardman, apparently fed up with the bothersome monk, attacks her savagely with its claws. Three of its four raking blows tear into Carellas flesh, doing a great deal of damage.

1d20+12+2 = 19+12+2 = critical hit on lizardman, immune to crticals
1d20+7+2 = 3+7+2 = 12 vs DC27 = miss
1d8+4+8 = 4+4+8 = 16 damage.

Trex, seeing the creature maul his companion, once again calls out to the Morninglord and attacks the creature. His first blow strikes true, and his righteous might is transferred through the blade to the creature. It howls in pain.

1d20+13 = 12+13 = 25 vs DC16 = successful grapple.

Carella grabs onto the creature once again, attempting to wrestle it into submission.

1d20+4 = 16+4+1 = 21 vs DC16 = hit with lesser orb of electricity.
3d8 = 3+6+1 = 10 damage.

Granth sends a ball of lightning at the strange creature, hitting it in the shoulder and causing a scorch mark to appear where it hit.

1d20+13 = 14+13 = 27 vs DC 27 = hit
Cannot surpass DR

Aramil quickly draws his bow, nocks an arrow, and lets it fly at the creature from the safety of the woods. The missile doesn't even seem to bother the creature in the slightest, as it sinks less than an inch into its skin. It's too distracted to remove it however, as Bolm approaches it holding up his holy symbol, a silver medallion with Lathanders symbol of the rising sun. The lizardfolk recoils from the approaching priest, and Bolm spits; "Vampire!?" as it backs away from the priest.

1d20+7 = 16+7 = 23 vs DC 16 = hit
3d6 = 5+4+2 = 11 damage
1d20+13 = 15 vs DC21 = failed save

The creature is unable to dodge Malacets blast, and the ray of fire catches the creature in the chest, setting it alight.

1d20+11+2 = 16+11+2 = 29 vs DC27 = hit with overrun
1d20+14 = 11+14 = 25 vs DC15 = hit
1d20+12 = 9+12 = 21 vs DC15 = hit
1d6+7 = 2+7 = 9 damage on Holi
1d6+7 = 3+7 = 10 damage on Holi
1d20+4+2 = 18+4+2 = 24 vs 1d20+7 = 17+7 = 24 = success

Holi charges forward, taking rakes from its claws before it smashes into the creature. The two seems as if they are both going to go flying, but Holis momentum gives him the advantage he needs to force the creature back onto its back. Unfortunately, this also breaks Carellas grip on the creature, as she releases and jumps aside before the dwarfs attack, rather than risk getting impaled on one of his many spikes.

1d20+7 = 18+7 = 25 vs DC10 = hit
1d3 = 1 damage

Tod chooses to send a splash of acid onto the creature rather than risk sending one of his more destructive spells into the fray, and has little trouble splashing it with a corrosive substance. It does little damage, however.

(Creature is prone and on fire, has taken 38+12-2 = 58 damage, Holi has taken 19 damage, and Carella has taken 36 damage.)

The compound damage from all the punishment on the creature proves too much, and it turns to dust faster than the flames licking at its body could allow.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Carella groans in pain as she looks at the ogres, "What the hell...", She looks at the one on the ground, "Hey... you okay...?"

(btw, Holi doesn't get AoO'd, bullrush doesn't cause AoO, unless the lizard has some sort of uber feat that lets him do that -3-)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

(Carella actually has AC 22, because I gave her mage armor before I tried to sleep, so 1 attack(#4) misses.)

Tod sighs. "And I was having such a nice rest too... Think I can get back to it? I'd like to have some spells tomorrow."

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

(Ahhh, the stuff I forget. Carella only takes 23 damage. He said overrrun, not bullrush. And bullrushing provokes AoO anyway.
)

The creature having been reduced to a pile of ashes, Aramil shouts; "What in the Nine Hells was that?"
Bolm moves over to Carella and chants a healing spell. (Cure Critical Wounds)
4d8+8 = 4+6+2+4+8 = Carella is fully healed.

Trex moves over and grasps Holis shoulder, healing him as well.
Holi regains 16 hit points.

The ogre is apparently quite dead. There are two large holes in its neck, along with a bunch of other cuts and scrapes. there is almost no blood coming from the wound. Aramil walks up and kicks it; "Looks dead." before turning to Trex and Bolm, expecting answers.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

If you want my best guess, I'd say that lizardman was either magically enhanced, or was infect with some sort of planar virus. Still, my specialty isn't in material plane creatures so this could be something natural. Give me a moment to think about it Granth says quickly running through his head for anything that might give him an actual idea.

(Using both Knowledge (Arcana) and Knowledge (The Planes) for in game knowledge. Although, if it leaves two holes in the creatures neck and drains it of blood, its probably a vampire.)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

(It would be nice if it was specified how big "large" is, as far as the holes in the neck go. It would be hard to suspect a vampire if the holes were the size of daggers and such. :/ )

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

"I believe Bolm said vampire," Holi says spitting some blood from his mouth as he tries to remember if he knows anything about vampires or anything that may help.

Looking at Bolm and Trex, "Maybe ye can remember a little bit more'n me since ye've had a bit more training in the area of the undead."

(knowledge(religion) check for myself, asks Bolm and/or Trex to do the same.

The overrun was done perfect as far as I can tell, as long as you included the +4 from improved overrun and the +2 from the charge, which it looks like you did. With the healing I have myself -3 HP's now, correct.)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

(Yep. If you want a full healing now, just ask Bolm and he'll take care of it. Large as in larger than those left by its regular teeth. I'm taking liberties with D&D vampirism being applied to lizardfolk, giving them snakefangs, which in comparable size growth from snake to humanoid would leave holes about the size of a quarter. It is indeed a vampire lizardman. Why I'm including them requires a lot of backstory that I'm only explaining at the asking.)

Holi: 1d20+4 = 6+4 vs DC20 = failure
Granth (Arcana): 1d20+11 = 2+11 = 13 vs DC24 = failure
Granth (Planes): 1d20+12 = 15+12 = 27 vs DC24 = success.

Knowing just the what he's seen of the creature, Trex has little to say. Bolm, however, says; "That was one of the lizardfolk, probably from the swamps far to the South West, afflicted with the curse of vampirism and in service to the leader of the ones we're after, Sylvia. It was one of the greatest affronts to both Lathander and to the natural order I've ever seen. Not surprising though, these bunch have been known for raising lizardfolk corpses with that damned stone. I'll need a bit of time in the area to ensure that this abomination never rises from its ashes to befoul the world again." With that, he begins drawing runes in the dirt around the creatures ashes, as well as the dead ogre, and chanting.
Aramil searches the dead ogre for clues to it's role in the nights events, but all he finds is a sack of silver on its belt, which he passes to Carella.

(Group gets 750 exp each and 300 silver.)
