Re: Facility, Codename: Last Resort

Lillius sat idly on the bridge. "Hey, Adria. How many Fallen are left on the ship?" The goo-girl didn't like having to sit around without doing anything.

Re: Facility, Codename: Last Resort

Melissa stops when the three Fallen land in front of her, face down. She looks at 366, and nods, then steps forward, pulling her combat knife from her storage disc. She kneels at the first creature's shoulder and drives the knife into the back of its neck. It lets out a gurgle and thrashes until Melissa gives the blade a tug and severs its spinal cord. With her other hand, she points the shotgun at another of the Fallen.

This one had managed to push itself off the ground halfway, which made aiming for the vital organs easy. Fallen armor was tough, but the point blank shotgun blast caused it to shatter and cave in, sending both pellets and shrapnel into the creature's chest. It shuddered, and fell back down without a sound.

The last Fallen was vainly struggling with 366, the operative having restrained it while it telepathically experienced it's comrades deaths. Melissa stepped forward and knelt in front of it, placing her shotgun on the ground. The creature snapped its vicious jaws at her, but Melissa calmly looked at it, before saying, "I told you we'd have some fun," before grabbing the back of it's head with her left hand and ramming the knife into its mouth with her right. The warrior's body shook violently as the blade pierced through its skull and into its brain, then stopped a moment later.

Melissa put her knife away, grabbed her shotgun and stood back up. As she reloaded it, she said to 366, "That worked out pretty well." She knew the operative wasn't much for conversation, and what could you really say after what had just happened, but she felt the need to say something. Raising a bloodstained hand to her ear, Melissa clicked on the radio and said, "Adria, the Fallen outside the bridge have been taken care of." She looked at 366, then leaned against the wall and sighed.

366 lets the last creature slump to the ground, and stoops to clean the blades she had been using on its armour. Nonchalantly, she leans back against the wall amongst the dead, apparently quite used to this sort of thing, waiting for the lights to return. Somewhat unexpectedly, she feels a pressure to speak, and does so.

"I take it.. you have something of a personal grudge.. against these things."

Melissa lets out a weak laugh and says, "Doesn't everyone by now?" She fell silent for a moment, then continued. "Just the usual, I guess. Killed my parents, wiped out my city, broke one brothers back, tore the arm off another, not to mention all my friends from boot." She raises a hand to her face, inadvertently leaving a red smear. "They take so much from everyone, sometimes it feels nice to take something from them." She laughs then, and looks down. "I'm sorry, you must think I'm stupid."

366 shakes her head, grimly. Her hand lifts, then drops again self-consciously, denying the instinct to comfort. This was a battlefield, after all.

"I .. I see. We're.. not like them though. There's more than that. We're more than that. We're human."

At least... most of us.

"I'm sorry.. for your loss, though."

Melissa, her face sill turned down, doesn't notice 366's movements. "Your right," she says, then nods and repeats, "your right." She looks at Six with a grin, and says, "Thanks." A sudden wave of curiosity washes over Melissa then, and she nervously asks. "What about you? Have you lost someone?" Realizing she had just asked a personal question rather bluntly, she backpedals, saying, "I mean, I don't mean to pry. I'm sorry, it's okay if you're not comfortable talking about that."

366 tenses, though her visor keeps her face hidden, still. The Operative is silent for a long moment, then replies, in a low, bitter tone.

"I lost my share. Not all from the Fallen, but most of them. It's sort of.. a prerequisite of becoming an Operative. They don't recruit people with families."

Without thinking about it, 366 has another blade in her hand, and is spinning it between her gloved fingers, idly.

Melissa stares at the woman for a short time, then says, "I see. I'm sorry." Noticing how tense the operative looked, she thought it might be better if they didn't dwell on this subject. After a moment, Melissa pushes away from the wall, and gingerly steps into the middle of the corridor, facing 366 and says, "Maybe we should go see what the others are doing."

366 reacts quickly, as if startled, bounding away from the wall as well, turning towards the corridor to the sealed bridge doors.

"Right! Right. We should.. see if we can get through to Adria. Get onto the bridge, get this mess sorted out."

She starts in the promised direction, though pauses, to add.

"And I'm sorry.. about earlier. It was necessary."

Reaching the sealed doors, 366 taps on them, then tries the radio.

"Adria. The Fallen outside the bridge are dead - you can unseal the doors now."

She continues to follow the sniper. "I just feel like I'm gonna be out of place here, or something..."

A gruff voice comes over the radio - of those that have it turned on anyway. "This is Machine. Engine deck clear. On a related note, I have Fallen brain on my boots. Awaiting further instructions."

Re: Facility, Codename: Last Resort

The lights slowly came back on in the hall, and a moment later the doors to the bridge opened for 366 and Melissa. "You can enter, but there are human bodies in here, possibly the former occupants of the base we just left."

She scanned again then answered Lillius. "Six left, three near Michael and the other three.... Are six levels below us near an outer hatch. Oh this should be fun."

Adria pushes a button, and there is a brief flicker on the screen. "Those three are gone now, I jettisoned them out the airlock there. Three left."

Re: Facility, Codename: Last Resort

"...Orders sir?... Sir?... I require furt-"

*CLUNK*

Having been distracted by her apparently ill commander, the experimental soldier failed to detect the three Fallen sneaking up behind her, resulting in a heavy blow to the back of her head which sent her crashing onto the steel floor. Advancing into the living quarters over the downed Ava, the Fallen began to take aim at Michael. However, just as they were about to fire, a hand shot forth from the girl they had presumed disabled and dragged the squad leader down to the ground by his ankles.

"Synthetic skeleton damaged 5%, switching to close range field projection to prevent further damage. Utilizing survival programming..."

What followed Ava standing back on her feet, could be described as one of the most savage and brutal beatdowns of Fallen ever seen. Starting by literally ripping off the leg of the alien she had caught, she then proceeded to grab the Fallen by his other leg, using him a makeshift flail to smash the other two into a nearby wall. Wasting no time, she flung the creature she held into the wall with the other two, and leaped upon them. Smashing through their armor with her fists, she proceeded to rip, tear, or simply pummel any flesh she could come into contact with indiscriminately at a terrifying speed. Blood splattered across the walls, flesh searing from having come into contact with the energy barrier being flung about, Ava tore into them like a wild beast. When she finally stopped, after having mauled the last Fallen's corpse so that it was completely unidentifiable, she stood up completely uncaring of the blood splattered upon her. Traces of the gorey scene still upon her, she turned towards her commander once again.

"Fallen eliminated...Orders?..."

Re: Facility, Codename: Last Resort

Michael, who had been vomiting in a corner on seeing Ava's wounds, manages to wipe his lips and turn in time to see the mess that Ava created "Oh lord." is all that is heard before the sounds of vomiting and a cough "There goes my lunch. And my breakfast, by the looks of it." he says weakly "Oi. Adria. How many more Fallen are you detecting on the ship?" he asks over his radio, then turns to Ava "Wherever there are Fallen, you are to follow me. Kill them all. And try to stop that bleeding if you can, it's disturbing." he says, walking towards the nearest teleporter while waiting for Adria's response

Re: Facility, Codename: Last Resort

(Careful of random orders...Ava's "programming" has made her a tad... "stupid" shall we say? Compare it with Windows Vista and its allegedly "helpful" features that may not be so useful...)

"...Understood. Initiating full recovery mode, combat abilities down to 5%..."

Closing her eyes, the "field" she normally projected slowly became visible to the naked eye as the energy gathered around her to accelerate the regeneration process. As a result, she began to "emit" a soft glowing blue aura and slowly show signs of fatigue from all the fights she had partaken in. In her restorative form, many modifications that required the use of her "energy field", one of which being the nanomachines which kept an experimental "vitality serum" flowing throughout her body so that the wear of extended physical activity did not set in, had been disabled in order to allocate maximum power to the nanomachines responsible for repairing her body. This also meant that she had the physical capabilities of a normal human at best, albeit with a more durable body, but a normal person nontheless. Physical exhaustion setting in, Ava begin to drag her body slowly after her commander, intent on following all of the orders she had been given.

Adria's voice cut over the radio after a moment. "Looks like you just killed the last three that were on board the ship. I'm not picking up any other life signs besides our own on the ship. Underneath us however is another story, the facility we just left is now crawling with them. They can't reach us at this time since we are several thousand feet off the ground."

Re: Facility, Codename: Last Resort

Melissa walks to the bridge alongside 366, giving a slight chuckle at her apology. "Don't worry about it, you may have just saved my life there," she says with a smile. "If I hadn't run into you, I might have run into them."

As the two stepped onto the bride, Melissa eyed the corpses, her face emotionless. "I thought this place was abandoned long ago? These people look like they died recently," she stated.

366 casts the bodies a similar glance.. her closed visor showing as much emotion as Melissa's face. After a moment's scrutiny, the Operative turns to rest her back against the closest bulkhead, watching the doorway and the rest of the room at the same time.

"I suspect these people fled onto the ship when the facility was breached. It is, after all, a closed environment - the internal atmosphere may have affected decomposition of the bodies."

A look of embarrassment flashes across Melissa's face, though it quickly disappears as she says, "Oh... right." She takes a few steps towards the center of the bridge, then says, "Well, seems like the ship is ours. Funny, it was a little easier than I was expecting."

Re: Facility, Codename: Last Resort

"I think most of the Fallen were trying to keep us from getting ONTO it, and therefore little resistance inside. Though looking at the logs of this ship, I'd say it's unlikely it's been activated in some time. We know that someone from this facility found the ship and relayed it back to command. It's possible some of them survived the original storming of the facility and made their way here hoping for rescue. We really have no idea how long this ship was sitting there though. And yes, we're the only ones still alive on this ship, unless there's some kind of stasis unit somewhere that blocks out life readings from being scanned."
