Re: Awesome parody for L4D2

I'm just angry that they came out with a sequel so quickly, before they could really do much with the first one.

The original one has gotten some updates, but most of what was promised to be updates for L4D is simply not going to happen, because it's all in L4D2 instead.

I don't mind them coming out with a new game, and will wind up buying it, because this is the first time any team at Valve has done something this dumb, so I can let it slide; however, they had DAMN WELL BETTER give this game the attention they promised for L4D in terms of updated content - as they seem to make the technical updates (bug fixes, etc.) they promise with any Valve game.

@Keylo: Oh god..... I think I'd be sick if ANY team at Valve took the 'EA' route.

Not to mention I'd boycott them quicker that Yahtzee can make a gay joke at the mention of Army of Two.

Re: Awesome parody for L4D2

For me, it's not so much the new content, but the fixes to the old content. Now I will say I've never had a more pleasurable gameplay experience with L4D, but it seems in the case of this game, fun seems to be directly proportionate to glitchiness. They've been making steps but it's still just oh so fucking broken all the time. They can release L4D2 for all I care, I'd just like the first game to be an entire game first, let alone the WHOLE promised game. Even then, I'm not gonna be too quick about buying the sequel since I'm kinda tight on money and because it's just L4D1.5 if anything

Re: Awesome parody for L4D2

I'm going on record, that I am actually quite looking forward to L4D2. I know L4D is considered incomplete by most because of promised content, but I don't have the game on my PC because I don't have a good enough computer, and I don't have Xbox live because of a) finances b) living location. So, even if they did release all that new content, I would be unable to get a hold of it. And as far as I've seen, Bethesda (read: not Valve) is one of the few companies to release their DLC on disk (the Oblivion and Fallout 3 expansions).

Now, due to this, when L4D2 comes out, there will be new content for me to enjoy, and for my friends whom live in the same area as me to enjoy. So while it may seem a ripoff to those of you who are not getting your DLC, there is something like 45% of Xbox owners who don't have Live, and of the remaining 55% I'm sure there are plenty that don't have the points to get the DLC should it ever have come out in the first place.

So, I continue as saying, that L4D2 has new content in it, new maps, new weapons, new characters, new campaigns, a new special infected. Sure it won't be compatible with the first game, but its still new content. Plus the addition of melee weapons that can do something rather than the simple push away you got in the first game is pretty cool in my opinion. I've been reading into the second game and I'm excited for some of the changes, such as horde moments where you have to move and stay on your toes rather than whore a corner. Plus a second game allows them to go into the code directly and tweak the Director AI and other glitches which might be more difficult to do with DLC.

Also, I didn't get the original Left 4 Dead until mid May, after I got back from my tour, and though I'm not exactly bored with the game, there's still so many other games I want to spend time with rather than L4D, and I think the sequel will give it some fresh air that will bring me back to it.

Well, that's all I got for now.

That, and Valve wants to keep all the Left4Dead DLC free. Allegedly, at least. I knmow that's what they said for the first DLC pack, and that one was free, but I don't know about the other ones.

It's Microsoft they're battling with; M$ wants them to charge money for it, and they don't want to charge for it, since Valve believes DLC (see: updates) should be free.

Re: Awesome parody for L4D2

It's a shame that Valve did in fact take the EA route, and while I myself am not going to take the retarded route, and pay another 50$, I'll likely fork up the cash for when it drops to a price I find agreeable for what L4D2 exactly is, an expansion pack, which I'd price at 20-10 dollars.

By buying L4D2 as soon as, or soon after it comes out for it's full retail price, you're supporting it's release, and supporting Valve's decision in this case. Valve will take the EA route, since, logically, it's the better choice to make if you want the cash flow, due to the average consumer being ignorant, willing to buy whatever, even though it's pretty much the exact same game they bought last year, with expansion pack-like differences.

While I'm still against this game, and am even enlisted in the boycott movement, I admit that making L4D2 was a wise decision for a business to make, since most of the people who bought L4D will be getting in line to buy the second one, thus earning them more money than they already had gotten from the making of the first. You may not like it, but trust me, both Valve and EA will love it very much when those poor saps line up to buy L4D2, which they will, because the average consumer is, and always will be, stupid.

In retrospect, I can't truly hate Valve, nor EA fully, since I myself enjoy taking advantage of stupid/ignorant people. And EA has my respect for doing such a great job of it, over and over again, turning themselves into one of the largest gaming franchises in history. So, asides from pissing you off, what did EA, or Valve for that matter, do wrong?

Not finish the first one. Up until the l4d2 announcement, that was a bad decision, because they'd constantly have to work on new content that they wouldnt be getting paid for.

I can't ever bring myself to hate a game company that makes good games.

Re: Awesome parody for L4D2

i don't know if that was directed or general, so I'm just gonna say I don't hate them, I just won't be buying the sequel very soon, and probably will at some point, like RJ. Also, like RJ, I moved to now talking about what could possible be interpreted as poor business decisions, not poor decisions in the eyes of gamers.

Even if it wasn't directed, I realize my last post didn't really emphasize that's what i was talking about
But yeah, you've got a good point wolf, as long as the feeling isn't long-lasting. I mean, I can understand starting to dislike the company for not making anymore good games, but I doubt l4d2 is gonna suck

Re: Awesome parody for L4D2

L4D2, from what I know, isn't an expansion pack. It has new weapons, levels, campaigns, playable characters, enemies, and art resources. The basic gameplay is the same, I suppose, as is the underlying code and server-side software. So I suppose you could consider it one of the largest expansion packs in history.

The comment was not directed Toxic.

In light of Goldstein's comment, I think it needs to come down to, what makes a sequel a sequel, and an expansion an expansion?

Re: Awesome parody for L4D2

L4D2 is, but at the same time isn't, an expansion pack.

It isn't, because they've taken the time to tweak the coding from the original to make it better, and there's new content that would have been hard to fit into the original based on how it worked.

It is, because there's also plenty of content that was promised to be added onto L4D, that they simply put into L4D2 instead.

It's... an expansive sequel?

Re: Awesome parody for L4D2

But... just because the content was promised for one game, but instead put in the other, does not make the other an expansion.

Also, in my opinion the original was a complete game. I don't know where the argument for an incomplete game has come from? What does it need to make it complete?

Anyway, to my understanding, and I think its been mentioned before, the only reason folks are pissed, is because of broken promises?

Re: Awesome parody for L4D2

The argument is that Valve promised constant updates to L4D in the vein of TF2, and then broke that promise by shoving all of the update content into L4D2. There have been updates for L4D, but many people feel that Valve should have released the content in L4D2 as updates to L4D. I think.

This is correct.

The people complaining just get angry because they were promised a game that would get regular updates, new gameplay, extra things, and a lot of things besides that, and then all the things promised for that game will only be available if they pay more money(For l4d2).

They simply put, feel like they already paid for it when they bought l4d, and now they're just not getting what they believe they already bought.

(I'm predicting L4D2 will get a high rate of piracy on it, only logical when pissing off people. I will not pirate it myself)

This is almost valid, except for one thing: They are still updating, and show no signs of stopping. There has been the survival mode update and there is the upcoming campaign update, along with a great many smaller bug-fix updates for the PC version. People are assuming that promises will be broken. When they are get upset, but for the time being it's completely unfounded. Valve has an excellent history of not treating it's customers like piles of currency, and we are assuming that this game is enough to end that. Have patience. Let them fail before you call them out.
