Re: Games Discussion Thread

It's not that hard to find. It's on that little island just off the Western Coast of BC. And it probly won't look too much like the modern one due to Humanity having a few hundred years to advance. We'll see how it turns out.

I just like that they decided to use a Canadian city, mostly cause that doesn't happen often. Some games even go so far as to completely ignore Canada.

As a side note, Modern Warfare 2 didn't... in Brazil a few of the Task Force 141 soldiers were Canadian. The only ones with camouflaged flags.

Well... I'm a HUGE geek, and I play the ME3 demo way too much... Been ranked between 5th and 2nd in the Norwegian rankings since it came out:p (Although I suppose that's a bit like being governor of Alaska in a way...) Anyways, I want people to play with that use common sense, revive people when they can, and maybe even have a mike...

Sooooo... Add me on XB:) Simen Reynolds

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I would have thought Vancouver would be pretty easy to find or picture myself. They have been in the news a lot the last couple years, with the Stanley Cup/ensuing riots and Olympic games. Pretty much similar to Seattle for the most part if you have trouble picturing it though.

You know now I'm curious about something though. Throughout the last couple of Modern Warfare games you see all these various parts of the world and different countries troops. What the hell is going on in China during all this, I have trouble picturing the largest military in the world as staying completely neutral during what is essentially World War 3.

Well, I'd say it's because most people have no idea what chinese weapons look like, untill battlefield 3 I figured they just used old soviet hand-me-down-because-I'm-fuckin-awesome AKs. And I'm fairly enthusiastic about guns. Buuuuut I haven't played MW3 and probably won't because of all the bullshit that goes on in the multiplayer to make it ungodly frustrating.

To be honest, I'm surprised they haven't been painted 'the big bad' yet. What with them being the only real 'reds' left.

Human Revolution took players to that news building in Canada (woohoo an entire building), and it also had the rather snide 'snowbacks' thing.

True I the QBZ-95 isn't that well known even in the US military. They do still use the multiple AKM and SKS variants in their paramilitary/police forces though.

I only rented MW3 to play through the storyline which wasn't that impressive. The multiplayer doesn't interest me all that much. Maybe they'll show up in MW4, waiting till everyone else is destroyed and then trying to take over. with their North Korean allies.

I stopped thinking about what was missing from the Modern Warfare storyline after the US just let the codes for their entire defense network sit out in the middle of no where... and didn't bother to change them. Seriously? That's how they had Russia invade?

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and the sequel Red River all had Chinese weapons in it... mostly because they were conflicts between the US and China.

And yeah, Human Revolution was made by Canadian Developers, so they threw in Montreal. Just like Ubisoft had Ezio say "I'm from Montreal" when he was pretending to be French.

Nu made the observation I was going to. Though I wonder if they're going to do more around the globe, considering the trailer was set in London. Guess we'll have to see.

And I'll have to find Wonder now that I have Live. Though more practice doing a shooter on a console is definitely going to be needed. Do much better with mouse and keys.

Or moose and squirrel.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Played the demo, really unhappy the basic assault rifle seems so gimped.

Me: Assault rifles other than the basic kinda blow, could you improve them?
Bioware: We're going to make the first one suck more so you'll want to use the others :)

Multiplayer's kind of fun, a little annoying right now with all the enemies that have shields so have fun playing a soldier. Basically without an engineer your going to have a harder time than you should. Also not keen on the whole 'random' items BS, just a cheap way to extend the life of the multiplayer, which is already super long considering you've got 4 different types for each of the 6 classes.

Also, was just looking at the class screen and WTF? Drell are adept and vanguard? Didn't they establish that the drell were trained to be assasins (infiltrator) by the hanar?

Edit: Don't play with adepts, they're just big kill-stealers.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Probably somewhat late, but remember video related to a new Mechwarrior?

Well apparently it's gonna be a MMO. And this is some of the more recent concept art of a Catapult.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

So apparen'tly I don't get to keep anything I've unlocked in the ME3 multiplayer :( because bioware (much more likely it's EA) thought I'd like to earn a bunch of cool shit, only to have it taken away and need to earn it again. A message on the multiplayer load-screen would have been nice, because I don't have my nose up their ass just waiting for them to let out a turd, instead of BUY LIVE GOLD they should have put YOU CAN'T KEEP THE SHIT YOU EARN HERE FAGGOT.

Found somthing mildly interesting .

Collector's Edition (needed to obtain all content):
$80 - N7 Collector's Edition
Pre-order bonuses:
AT-12 Raider - Origin pre-order bonus
Chakram Launcher - Play the Kingdoms of Alamur demo
M-55 Argus - Pre-order bonus for select retailers
N7 Weapons pack - N7 Edition bonus
N7 Hoodie - N7 Edition bonus
N7 Warfare Gear - Pre-order bonus for select retailers
Reckoner Knight Armor - Play the Kingdoms of Alamur demo
Robotic Dog - N7 Edition bonus
Squad Outfit pack - N7 Edition bonus
Auxiliary purchases:
Unannounced price for the iOS game Mass Effect Infiltrator, which can affect the main game.
$10 day one "From Dust" DLC
$44.99 for the Liara figurine - which oddly enough now comes with unconfirmed DLC
$24.99 for The Art of Mass Effect Universe - Collector Assault Rifle unlock DLC/Powerup
$80 for four Mass Effect 3 toys - "Slightly randomized" multiplayer unlock DLC
$59.99 for the Mass Effect 3 controller - Collector Assault Rifle unlock DLC/Powerup
$209.99 for the Chimera 5.1 Headset - Collector Assault Rifle unlock DLC/Powerup
$34.99 for the Mousepad - Collector Assault Rifle unlock DLC/Powerup
$79.99 for the Messenger Bag - Collector Assault Rifle unlock DLC/Powerup
$24.99 for the iPhone case - Collector Assault Rifle unlock DLC/Powerup
$79.99 for the Mouse - Collector Assault Rifle unlock DLC/Powerup
$139.99 for the Keyboard - Collector Assault Rifle unlock DLC/Powerup
Which comes out to $870. I'm not impressed. And I swear to god if the only new weapons are DLC only, I will be getting my fucking money back, in dollars or flesh.

Well, I'm sure as hell not going to get all that stuff... Anyways, I just realized that Halo Waypoint is basically going through all the halo lore and making sure everything adds up. They've got video series out for halo odst, reach and halo wars, as well as most of the comics. So that people can follow the story even though they can't afford 20 thousand different Halo items. I'm kinda digging it, especially because it seems like 343 is really trying to fix up any inconsistencies in the different storylines.

To be fair, about 650$ are all Collector Assault Rifle unlocks. If you pay 25$ for the artbook, you also get the DLC - which seems to be the best cost-value ratio out of those.

That is to say, if you even want it at all, which I don't.

Yeah... that list makes it look like there's multiple options to get the same gun... which really ain't that bad. I don't need to gun, so I won't get it.

Also, with a game really focused on story delivery, I'm less concerned about the frilly edges then I would be with other games. I don't need some fancy new assault rifle so long as what I have in the game works. And frankly, publishers are going to be pushing all this DLC and bonus shit out like mad as long as people keep buying it and turning a profit. Don't like all that stuff? Get people to stop buying it.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I think the fact that the same download is showing up on multiple buys, and that the rewards are so comparatively miniscule, is indicative that the DLC is meant more as a reward for enjoying the game than an enticement to buy it. I mean, $25 dollars for a gun? Either that, or they're limiting their market to obscenely wealthy obsessive compulsives, which seems like a rather limited business strategy.

Ohgodohgodohgodohgod! :D

I was worried that it had died. Again! But it's ok! And... an MMO? This is... strange news. I became disillusioned with the "MMO" scene long ago, but this, has potential. I've just read up on the FAQ and Q&A sections, and this looks very interesting. I would never have remotely considered the idea of putting the words Mechwarrior and MMO together, but this makes me wonder if it could finally be the fabled MMO that isn't a soulless grind fest that I've been waiting for.

No subscription fees either. They've supposedly heavily drawn from the original Battle-Tech tabletop rules and regularly mention attention to canon and setting lore. The set up for the battles involving company command roles, multiple lances and scouting and intel warfare sounds brilliant too.

I've gotta keep an eye on this now, and make sure I have my new PC in time for it. Gonna be fun getting all insecure about my skill level and desperately trying not to let down the team.

Really hope this turns out ok. I wanna get in that cockpit.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

The biggest change I found is the focus on urban fights, instead of open flat terrain like every other Mechwarrior. Means mechs not designed for open combat (like the Bushwhacker) or for scouting roles (Osiris) are actually fighting where they were designed to fight, and will boost the 'uniqeness' of it a bit I think.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Hrm. If I were to get the collector assault rifle, I'd be pissed that if I wanted it to be fully powered I'd have to buy all that other shit, but I'm not going to buy overpriced prefrials to get a silly gun. I do happen to need a new mouse and gamepad but damn, double the price because it's ME3 version? (Also I'd like to comment on how expensive wireless mice STILL are) that's just crazy.

I think it's more the fact that I'm being denied access to content that I've already fucking paid for, and happens to be on the disc, because I'm not spending even more money on ME3. I'd be hard-pressed to justify paying the extra $20 for the N7 edition to myself.

And lastly, if anyone figures out how to get the argus on 360 without pre-order I'd appreciate a heads up. I don't pre-order games because I support my local retailers instead of the large chains that try to charge me extra for a guaranteed sale and lie to me saying they'll hold my copy.

Edit: BOOOOOOO to urban warfare in Mechwarrior, I like being a slow-moving artillery piece!
