A good reason to state your apathy towards something is appropriate under a certain context, like say a certain somebody else is having epileptic fit over the fact that there's a sliver of red in their CP, under the misinterpretation that people treat reputation as a fair method of judgement.

Reputation isn't in the least even close to being an accurate measure of worth or social esteem, it's just a green/red doohicky that people will use to make comments about you. If you can't handle criticism try lurking instead.

It is up to the userbase to be courteous and to never give any negreps to anyone that don't deserve it.

There's no real way to measure what makes the difference between a "valid" or "invalid" negrep, well, apart from the sliver of rules available, but even then the value of each of those reps are moderated and adjusted to be fair to the users.

People are already having their hands held, as far as I'm concerned the userbase can do what they want when they want, and if people have a problem with it it's their own problem to deal with it. It's easy to simply ignore your control panel.

I still find it rude. If someone farts right next to you, you can ignore it but it is still rude. As with someone playing bad music in the car. As with telling repetitive jokes. Same logic apply here as well.

I still find it rude. If someone farts right next to you, you can ignore it but it is still rude. Same logic apply here as well.

If you get tense and annoyed because somebody farts every once and awhile you need to lighten up, or alternatively point it out, either the person involved has a stomach problem or was probably hoping you wouldn't notice.

Someone playing "bad music" in the car? If they're the person driving, they can play whatever they want, though I'll agree it's rude to install a massive stereo system and blast it out at full volume at the expense of everyone around.

And telling repetitive jokes...? That's pretty vague, but in the end even if you find it lame, it's not rude; obnoxious maybe, but not rude.

And when it comes to "common courtesy" and "manners", the internet (for the most part) runs under a different set of rules. Without the restraints of possibly violent consequences, violence is replaced with banter and mudslinging. Learning how to deal with it is purely for your own good if you intend to socialize on the internet. If you scowl every time you get a negrep you probably lack self-esteem, or are overly self-important.
