Re: A Chance Meeting (Occam's Razor and SirOni)

Lani pouts for a moment before sighing. "Fiiiiine..." Getting up off her sleeping bag the young demoness looks around the abandoned camp picking up anything that could be used for their fire. Once done the girl drops it roughly between the two of them and sits back down.

Re: A Chance Meeting (Occam's Razor and SirOni)

Michael finishes his meal just as Lani plonks the firewood down. "Wood is dry as a bone. Which is good, means less smoke." he says, sifting through his pockets and finding two pieces of flint in said pockets, striking them together multiple times before the kindling next to the fire caught and he began to blow on it, until the flames spread to the wood itself. It was at that point Michael sits back and props his knees up in front of his face, his forearms resting on his knees. "Been a long time since I've needed to make a fire." he says to himself more than anything, still trying to accept the fact that he's now going to be travelling with someone.

Michael: HP = 46, PP = 36, EP =34, Status = Fine
Lani: HP = 66, PP = 42, EP = 40, Status = Fine

Usable firewood is fairly scarce at the small oasis unless they want to try cutting down one of the small trees growing near the water. The small fire that they do manage to get together is enough to keep them from freezing at least, and the night is otherwise quiet save for the occasional cry of the more nocturnal creatures of the desert. If the two do nothing else, eventually both will drift off to sleep only to be awakened by the heat and light of the morning sun.

Re: A Chance Meeting (Occam's Razor and SirOni)

Despite sleeping much of the afternoon and evening away Lani quickly grows tired as the night draws on. Crawling into her sleeping bag Lani calls out goodnight to Michael before quickly succumbing to her tiredness, the warmth and crackling of the fire comforting the young girl.

Stirring in her sleep Lani slowly wakes up as the suns rays break into their campsite. Climbing out of her sleeping bag Lani yawns and stretches as she's bathed by the early morning warmth before putting her boots back on. Rummaging through her bag the young demon pulls out a couple of bags of trail mix and bottled waters, one of each being placed by Michael for when he wakes up. Quickly eating her breakfast Lani packs away her sleeping bag and waits for her travelling partner to wake up.

Re: A Chance Meeting (Occam's Razor and SirOni)

Michael had already laid down on his back and fallen asleep, his only comfort from the elements his duster, by the time Lani had called out goodnight.

When the sun began to warm his body and he began to feel bloodflow return to him, he lay there a while longer until he heard Lani setting his food down next to him, to which he leapt up and drew both of his guns, believing it to be an ambush. When he realized it was just Lani, he slowly holstered his guns and placed his right hand on his forehead as he sat down. "You'll have to forgive that. I tend to be jumpy in the mornings." he says, crossing his legs and sighing as he sets the trail mix on his lap and then begins to eat it slowly.

"Finally woke up then, eh?" Lani comments, a smirk spreading across her young face at Michael's reaction, her bag strapped to her waist once more. The young demoness leans against a wall with her arms crossed against her chest as she waits for Michael to get ready so the two of them can continue their journey to Acheron.

Upon completion of his meal, Michael begins to flit his wings and stand, before they begin to buzz and he lifts off the ground "If we don't have to walk along this blistering sand we should make good time." he says, before he starts off and resumes their journey towards Acheron. "Just don't complain to me if your wings get tired."

"Oh don't worry about me," Lani says cheerily as the two of them proceed to leave their makeshift camp. "I won't be complaining." The young demoness flaps her wings several times before taking to the skies and quickly falls in line with Michael.

Michael and Lani set off across the desert as the morning sun rose, and the temperature began to rise quickly as the two set off. Before the sun had reached its apex, however, the two of them spotted a town in the distance. Making for it in hopes of getting out of the heat, they set down on the outskirts, sighting a sing with the word "Chander" painted in bold white letters, and walked the rest of the way into town, where the two of them simply parted ways as Michael went straight to the nearest Saloon with the intention of staying for a while. Lani, meanwhile, was free to do as she liked. A potion shop was sitting across from the Saloon that Michael had gone to, and there was a sheriff's office and a bank not very far down the road, in addition to a couple of shops selling assorted goods.

Meanwhile, the day had been fairly slow for Vanilla so far, though it was really just starting now given how her business normally kept her up to odd hours. Business had been slow of late anyway, but out of one of her windows she spotted a pair of travelers entering Chander, neither of whom she had ever seen before. One, a very odd looking man, went immediately to the Saloon across the street from her shop, while the other, a girl, stood still for a moment.

(Occ, get back to me so I can spin of your thread if you want.)

Re: The Good Daughter (SirOni and xgkf)

Lani, having said her goodbyes to Michael just stands there for a good while wondering what to do with her time. She hadn't expected to part ways so suddenly with who she considered was to be a long term travelling companion, but stuff happens she supposes. No need to fret over it.

Having finally snapped out of her day dream-like state Lani quickly checks her backpack, and just as the young demoness thought, she is running low on travel supplies. Assuming it's because she had shared some of her rations with Michael Lani decides it would be best to top up before continuing on for Acheron. Lani looks around for a moment, looking to see what the shops had on offer, and making a mental note to check the potion shop later on the young demoness decides to head down the road towards a shop that looked like it was perfect for aspiring adventurers travelling across the country.

Re: The Good Daughter (SirOni and xgkf)

Vanilla sat in her seat behind the counter in her store with her chin buried against the hard surface, bored out of her mind as she stared out of her shop window. Business had been exceptionally slow lately, and she couldn’t figure out why. There had been fewer travelers through the area recently, though, so maybe that was it...

As if on cue, her eyes and ears perked up as she saw a pair of strangers enter the frame of her shop window. One was an odd looking man who went straight for the saloon across the street, the other a short, pretty girl with white and red hair and strange-looking clothes...strange to her, at least. She also possessed a small pair of bat-like wings and a tail, making her look almost like a...

“D-Demon!” Vanilla squeaked, her mild fear of demons kicking in slightly. She immediately ducked down behind the counter to hide, pausing a moment before crawling along the floor of her shop and over to the window before peaking up though it, eyeing the demon-girl suspiciously.

“What’s wrong, Vanilla?” her staff’s disembodied voice said from behind the counter were she’d left it, a teasing tone in its voice. “See something you like out there? A new traveler for you to ‘play’ with?” it asked, chuckling lightly at its master’s familiar behavior.

“Sh-Shut up, Pervy-staff!” the catgirl whispered back, refocusing her attention on the new person outside her shop to see what she would do next. She was really pretty, though...

As the demon-girl began panning her eyes up and down the street, Vanilla would quickly duck down below the windowsill when the demon looked her way to try and stay out of sight for the time being, completely forgetting that both her ears and hat would still be fully visible though the window if the demon-girl bothered to notice. After a moment, the catgirl would peak over the windowsill again to see the stranger making her way up the street towards one of the other stores, subconsciously eyeing her up as she went.

Once she was far enough away, Vanilla would dash back behind her counter and retrieve her staff. “Come on, Parvani,” she would say before quickly making her way out of the shop and stalking after the demon-girl, trying to stay hidden behind whatever walls, barrels, or other objects that where available along the street as she did so.

Vanilla, with her staff and hat both poking out conspicuously, was hardly the stealthiest of individuals. Lani noted that someone had come out of the potion shop almost immediately, and she also noticed that that person was following her. Regardless of her reaction to the strange girl's presence, Lani found a general store easily enough, and entered to find a dark skinned man wearing a grey shirt beneath a brown vest standing behind the counter. "Good morning miss! Are you new in town? How can I help you today? The name's Travis, Travis McNarvic."

Vanilla saw Lani enter the general store run by one of her friends, Travis. He was a very nice man, all things considered, but also generally fairly private. He stayed out of the saloon, and only occasionally came to her shop for medicines, but when he did he was always friendly and occasionally even openly flirtatious. She'd never heard any bad rumors about him either, though he often simply wasn't talked about at all.

Re: The Good Daughter (SirOni and xgkf)

Out of the corner of her eye Lani spots a woman stepping out of the potion shop she had just stood outside of for several minutes, and glancing back she notices that the oddly dressed petite girl is following her. Or at least going in the same direction. While the young demoness feels she should be wary of the woman she finds herself strangely mesmerised by her. Wanting to get a better look of her Lani slows her pace down, not enough for the woman to become suspicious, but enough so that by the time she enters the shop the the other woman is directly behind her.

"Mooorning~!" Lani calls out cheerily as she is addressed by the shop owner, a dazzling smile on her face. "I'm Lani, and yeah, I'm new here. Just arrived in fact! Nice to meet you, Travis." Greeting the shop owner Lani then rummages through her bag, seeing what exactly she needs to stock up on. "Um... I need some rations, aaaand... bottled water by the looks of it. Could've sworn I had more than this... Yeah, that's all, I think."

Re: The Good Daughter (SirOni and xgkf)

Vanilla tried to remain at what she thought was a safe distance from the strange demon-girl as she followed her, suddenly diving behind a barrel that was resting on the side of the road when she noticed the other girl glance back towards her. It did a fairly decent job of hiding her once she was behind it – hiding everything except her hat, tail, and staff, that is – but she was afraid she’d moved too late. She sat there for a moment behind the barrel before peaking around it, seeing the demon-girl continuing on her way down the road as if nothing had happened.

“Do you think she saw me?” Vanilla whispered to her staff.

Parvani stayed silent for a moment, as if deadpanning at his master’s question. “Nope... She seems perfectly unaware of your presence...” the staff said, its sarcastic tone going unnoticed by the catgirl as her eyes stayed focused on the demon-girl, as if somehow entranced by her.

“Good,” she replied, stepping out from behind her ineffective hiding spot and resuming her tailing of the demon-girl.

As the stranger made her way into the Chander General Store, owned and run by her friend Travis, Vanilla moved up and got down on her knees beneath the store’s window, poking her head up and peaking in through the window just as she had done earlier from inside her own shop.

Vanilla knew Travis to be a nice man, always kind and friendly to her on the occasions that they had run into each other on the street or when he stopped by her shop to buy medicine, and he was sometimes even openly flirtatious with her on those occasions. Despite this, the two had never actually gone any further than just that friendly flirting, the dark-skinned man having never made a move on the catgirl himself, and always teasingly turning Vanilla down whenever she playfully offered. Even though it didn’t bother her, she was never really sure why. She guessed it had something to do with his fairly private nature, though, or that maybe he just didn’t see her that way.

As she watched the exchange through the window, Vanilla’s ears perked up when the demon-girl introduced herself to her friend, catching her name as ‘Lani’. It was a pretty name, and it seemed to fit her cute appearance and somewhat bubbly personality quite nicely. Those thoughts gave the catgirl a strange feeling in her stomach as she looked on. This ‘Lani’ girl wasn’t like other demons that she’d heard about and seen pass through town before. She seemed nice...warm. For a moment Vanilla began to wonder if she was really a demon at all...

"Oh yes, perfectly inconspicuous. She'll never see your big goofy hat sticking out through the wide open window," Vanilla's staff muttered sarcastically, though it said nothing more as Vanilla observed the demonic looking girl, Lani, speaking with Travis.

"Well, let me be the first to welcome you to Chander then Lani! If it's supplies you're looking for, you've come to the right place. I've got plenty of waterskins for sale, and you can refill what you've got at the town well for free. Don't have any glass though, that stuff's hard to come by since the factories back West went down. I've got quality trail rations of fruit and dried meats and cheeses, or if you're strapped for cash I can give you the cheap stuff, hard tack. I've got whiskey too, if you're looking for some warmth on those cold desert nights," Travis concluded, pointing Lani at the sign hanging over his head and indicating the prices of everything he'd named, among many others. "I've got rounds on sale as well, some special stuff for Badarian and Su-Ku-Ta pistols and rifles along with the regular stuff, as well as anything else you might need on the trail."

Waterskin - 1 denarii per day's ration
Hard Tack - 1 denarii per day's ration
Trail Mix - 2 denarii per day's ration
Whiskey Flask - 4 denarii
Signal Whistle - 1 denarii
Hemp Rope - 3 denarii
Utility Knife - 4 denarii
Heavy Multitool - 6 denarii
AP Rounds - 10 denarii for a box of 20, +4 AV penetration
Hollow Rounds - 10 denarii for a box of 20, +4 damage, -4 AV penetration

“Quiet! She’ll hear you!” Vanilla whispered in response to her staff’s comments.

Taking note of what he’d actually said, however, she quickly lowers herself away from the window and crawls around to the side of Travis’s store before rising to her feet and leaning against the wall, peering around the corner as she waited for Lani to finish her business at her friend’s store.

Re: The Good Daughter (SirOni and xgkf)

"Woo~oow! Custom rounds?" Lani suddenly exclaims loudly, her hands coming to rest on the counter as she stands on the tips of her toes to get a better look at the sign. "They'd really come in handy!" Rummaging through her bag once more Lani takes out a drawstring purse, and after loudly counting out twenty denarii she places them on the counter. "I'll have one box of each, please!"

"I can fill my bottles up for free? Oh, I may check out the well later on then," Lani comments, no point in buying water when she can fill the bottles she has for free. "And the good quality rations will do, I've got enough money so I can afford them." Again, the young demoness cheerfully counts out her coin, and hoping that it'll be enough to see her to Acheron Lani puts down enough coin for five days worth of rations.

"Uh... whiskey? I guess I could get some if it'll help keep me warm, though I'm not really supposed to be drinking it... But I guess it'll be fine~" She adds, flashing her dazzling smile once more as she hands over some more money, enough for three bottles of whiskey. As the pile of money on the counter steadily grows Lani gives the sign another look over, wondering if she would need any of the other stuff listed on her travels. After some consideration the young demoness opens her purse once more and takes out another handful of coin. "I think I'll take one of each of the other stuff as well, can't be too prepared, right?" Dumping enough denarii for the rest of her order onto the counter Lani eagerly waits for her items to be handed over, unaware that her stalker is lurking just outside the window.

(Purchases;
1x AP Rounds - 10 denarii
1x Hollow Rounds - 10 denarii
5x Trail Mix - 10 denarii
3x Whiskey - 12 denarii
1x Signal Whistle - 1 denarii
1x Hemp Rope - 3 denarii
1x Utility Knife - 4 denarii
1x Heavy Multitool - 6 denarii

Total cost: 56 denarii, Left over money: 16 denarii)

Travis waited until Lani had placed her whole order, writing everything down on a note pad he held beside him before saying; "Coming right up!" He didn't bother to count her money since she'd placed it on the table as she decided to buy things, and calmly scooped it all up after placing a parcel on the table. Seeing that he purse had shrunk significantly after buying all of the things that she wanted, and then seeing the guns hanging at her sides, Travis then says; "If you're looking to refill that, I heard that the sheriff had some work that needed doing by someone with a steady gun hand. There's usually someone looking for work to get done at the Saloon too, though it might not be strictly moral depending on who you get it from."

Outside, Vanilla's staff fell silent as she carried it into the alley, taking up a position in order to wait for Lani to come outside. She could still hear voices through the wall, but they were muffled and unintelligible. "Well, this is fun. What are we doing again?"

“Duh~! I’m investigating the new arrival like I always do!” Vanilla whispered back at her staff, growing slightly annoyed. “Jeez, unless it involves me naked, it seems like the only thing you can do is complain recently... Besides, it’s better than dying of boredom back at the shop with no customers...”

Vanilla’s eyes widened as she finished speaking, a realization suddenly hitting her. “Oh crap! I left the shop unlocked!” she exclaimed, forgetting all about her earlier attempts to stay quiet and hidden as she darted back out from her hiding spot at the entrance to the alley next to Travis’s store. After several steps, her rush to get back caused her to make an uneven step where she caught the toe of her shoe on her heel, causing the catgirl to stumble and fall face-forward onto the road no more than fifteen feet from the General Store behind her, her cat-tail causing the back of her skirt to flip upwards slightly as she hit the ground, revealing the pair of cute light-pink panties that she wore underneath.

"Thank you!" Lani says happily as Travis hands over the items she had bought, putting them in her backpack in no particular order. "Work?" Lani looks confused for a moment as Travis' suggestion of going to see the sheriff. "Well... I was only passing through, but I guess I could help out. I am running low on money." The young demoness shakes her coin purse, it jingling rather weakly before she puts it back in her backpack. "Though I could be on the road for a while yet, so staying here a night wouldn't hurt. Would be nice to sleep in a warm bed for on-" Lani stops midsentence as she hears a crashing sound outside the shop and turns to look out the window only to be greeted by quite a nice shot of a pair of pink panties that seem to be owned by the woman that had followed her.

"Thank you for the help!" Lani calls out to Travis as she runs out of the shop, worried about the girl that had just floored herself. "Are you alright?" Lani asks, as she rushes to the oddly-dressed woman's side. Taking her hand Lani helps the woman up.
