Re: Wolfenstahl

I got to the end of the demo, beat the boss, but I didn't find the big beefy paperheads. (sorry, after looking at the blog and actually reading the post regarding those guys, I learned they are from act 2, my bad.)

also, why so many locked doors? I only found one key, but even with it, I couldn't figure out how to get in those doors, it is a bit misleading to give a "press up to open door" prompt, if it is just for show. leads me to believe that there IS something behind them.

Re: Wolfenstahl

I hope the new version I uploaded yesterday fixes the issues for most people.

Only problem/bug I ran across was when you get to a room where you must fight through to be able to open a door out, if you try to get out before, it left "Someone is blocking the door..." up and it will not go away. Even after saving, exiting and loading. Must start a new game for it to go away.
I have an idea how this could have happened.
But it would be nice if you could tell me how this happened exactly?
(maybe you lost all HP while standing near the specific door that gives out that message? at least that would be my guess)

on that note, why so many locked doors? I only found one key, but even with it, I couldn't figure out how to get in those doors, it is a bit misleading to give a "press up to open door" prompt, if it is just for show. leads me to believe that there IS something behind them.
Most of those rooms are rooms where Verdani gets locked in, after her HP drops to zero.
After you get locked into one of those rooms and escape from it, you can enter it anytime.

IDK, I honestly think that something went very wrong during the development process of this game. The first demo that was released ran perfectly on my PC and as far as I know there were no complaints about performance issues at all. Once the later versions started being released a bunch of people started having performance issues.
Well, there isn't anything particularly wrong with the development process.
It's just that the amount of sprites/graphics etc. is about 10 times higher than before.
Also the amount of code, ingame-areas etc. has been increased greatly.
(so it's only natural that the game eats up more ressources)

As far as I know, this should be the reason why the game can't be played by some people.
Unfortunately I only have computers and notebooks that are above average...
So I have no opportunity to test the game on older machines.
(also everyone from our team, as well as the testplayers, have stronger pc's)

The only thing I know for sure is, that the "bug" of being unable to start any version beyond the first version up, is occuring on older computers.

Well, it's always difficult to get a game to run on "every" system.
Especially if a game is made by one programmer alone.
But I'm trying my best to fix as much as possible.
(though I think I won't be able to reduce the ressources needed, unless I strip the game of everything that has been implemented, or build up a completely different game... 2D platformer, less hentai-animations etc... mainly the stuff I mentioned in my earlier post)

At any rate does anyone still have the first demo that was released? I lost mine. I would really like to get it back because that's the one that worked on my PC. Could anyone upload it, please?
I can't make out which version it exactly was, sorry.
(yes, the uploaded versions actually have different names/descriptions as the ones stored on my PC, and since there are countless sub-versions of versions... well...)
I guess someone else has to upload it again.

Nahhh it wasn't the captured room. It was the very first room you come across once you start the game. If you stand next to the door while they come in and have that "Someone is standing in your way" message when you can finally go through, it will stick with you. Repeatable. I'm assuming you can do this in every 'fight your way out' room.

Ah, I get it ^^

Thanks for the report, I'll fix it.
(but I'll wait until I release another fixed version, since this is just a minor bug I guess)

Re: Wolfenstahl

This updated version continuously crashes for me running windows 7 whenever a "bad end" or any kind of text CGscene is loaded.

It's generally a box titled "error messages" with something like

___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 1
of Draw Event
for object obj_CG4_Black_Room_S1E1:

Error in expression:show_textfield
position 1: Unknown variable show_textfield

Funnily enough, the original unaltered version .9 works in the situation where the update crashes. This is after a reinstall and running in admin too. Hopefully that information helps; sorry to be of trouble.

Re: Wolfenstahl

I'm kind of torn about the "go" arrows. They make the first/demo stage feel a lot smaller, since there's no required exploration (and no likelyhood of accidentally stumbling into (e.g.) the GOR trap room)

On the other hand, I can see people being frustrated by repeatedly stumbling into all of the "defeat everyone" rooms.

An obvious solution to the "we put so much effort into the h-attacks and people won't see them" you mentioned somewhere else is to put them into the CG viewer somehow.

Re: Wolfenstahl

The only frustration I find from the "defeat everyone" rooms is that they just keep coming in...seems like there's no end to them. Especially the really big one with the bomb tossers after the potions room.

I would say either limit it to one or two respawns or have four of them in the room at the same time.

I agree; perhaps even a stamina potion drop chance for certain enemies in those situations so you don't always run out of steam half way through the onslaught

you can actually outwalk them while you recover stamina :)

well yeah, but if Havokor's gripe is that you spend too much time having to fight off the enemies that pour in, walking around only really prolongs that; fair point though

they stop coming though...and there are less of them if you clear out earlier rooms :)

Re: Wolfenstahl

Hey guys,
So this is my first post, so please don't be overly critical...

I played the demo and I must say, I like it so far. There's a storyline (somewhat) and the game runs really smoothly (for me, at least). The system is a little different from what I usually play but I like it. And the art is really good for a sidescroller. I just want to give some feedback on this.

-The CG Gallery is a nice, but every time after you view a CG you go back to the menu. It's kinda annoying to have to go the the gallery every time. Not a major problem, but it irks me.

-The grab system is, IMO, unique, but it gets tedious after a while. So instead of having to do 3 DDR sequences to get out, maybe 2 is enough.

-I was kinda surprised that the boss didn't have a grabbing attack. If all the common enemies had a grab, shouldn't the boss have a stronger grab?

-It makes no sense that you heal while you get grabbed. IDK, but I don't get this logic.

Other than the mentioned points, I like everything else. Whoever's making this, keep up the good work, be it on this or another project!

Pretty valid questions/points. You do regain health while walking around but at a slower pace than if you mash V while grappled.

Would have been interesting to see a grapple on the long haired boss...but nothing but regular attacks.

there was also the concern a grab would slow down the gameplay and sense of urgency in the boss fight :)

Re: Wolfenstahl

I dont know about you guys, but the jumping is a the biggest pain I've ever felt!

Its soo frustrating to jump from the lower platform to the upper one. I mean it just depends on luck!! Nothing else! Somtimes you make it and sometimes you dont!

The most of the times I find myself get stuck inbetween the platforms, thus not allowing me to jump up OR down!!

I could keep trying but I keep running out of stamina and I find myself just waiting around going back and forth waiting for my next jump.

Please Wolfenstahl I AM BEGGING YOU HERE PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

ADD RAMPS, DO ANYTHING!!

I literally had to exit and restart the game which takes min 10 mins to load!!

Thanks You

Re: Wolfenstahl

The room with lots of enemies is meant to be a challenge, and it's meant to throw a lot of Paperheads at Verdani.
And yes, as I said in the past, I don't want the bosses to have any grab-attacks.
(it seems that most people welcome this decission, I myself think that this is good, too)

azurezero said pretty much everything I already mentioned in the past about this matters.

It's not luck at all, the ingame tutorial should explain it clearly how it works.
(if you know how it works out, you should be able to manage to do it every time you try to do it)

The most of the times I find myself get stuck inbetween the platforms, thus not allowing me to jump up OR down!!
I know of this bug, but unfortunately I can't fix it.
(unless I delete the complete 1st stage)
Luckily it should (nearly) never happen, if you know "how" to jump up and down the edges.
(at least that bug never happened to me even once... but I do know that it exists)

I'll have to leave the 1st stage as it is, but all the other stages won't have any edges.
(I mentioned all of this several times already...)

We already wasted too much time on different things.
Well, at least we fixed the most issues and we did include stuff the community wished for or asked for.
But now we really have to pull this off.
(don't want this to get bigger and bigger, until it ends like some other projects that never get finished)

Hi,

it seems that gallery navigation and/or confirming game over screens produces a lot of errors for me. Here are a few:

I got knocked out by the 2nd Boss Chao and when it said "Press Enter to continue" I got the following error:

Have ya got the last one?

'Cos for me, it works now... Though I didn't care that much as the gallery wasn't fun anymore: no text + only one image...

Hi,

it seems that gallery navigation and/or confirming game over screens produces a lot of errors for me. Here are a few:

I got knocked out by the 2nd Boss Chao and when it said "Press Enter to continue" I got the following error:
As I mentioned several posts before:
Please delete the old game files, and don't use ANY of them with the new version.
This kind of error seems to come up if you use an old save file.

I didn't change "anything" on the gallery-code at all.
(and yes, I know what that kind of error message tries to tell me, but I haven't changed anything on that line of code at all)
But this kind of message seems to happen if you have old files in your game-folder.
That's why you should delete all old files, only using new ones.

And please understand if I ignore this repeating request in the future, since I already replied to it several times (here in this topic as well on my blog).
I've got lots of stuff to do instead of replying to the same question over and over again.

And yes, I use Win7 64 bit myself, as well as all team members and most game-testers.
No issues there, but I understand that a computer is made of more than that.
(and unfortunately I can't fix that)
Compability issues are always an interesting topic.
