Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B10P7B (Updated March 30th, 2014)

Sorry, bad link.

I fixed the other two links as well (OP and other post).

As for managing a garden.. originally I had a concept where you could use a shovel to plant several types of veggies and whatever you planted would grow. I guess I figure there's enough going on that I don't want the player to be bogged down with the daily management of a garden. It might be fun at first but I think it would get old after a while.

I plan on having a traits system at some point. There will probably be some that impact gardening but not on an interactive level. Like one trait might result in extra food items when you harvest while others could increase the diversity of plants in the garden, decrease harvest time, minimize stamina loss, etc..

Link wasn't bad though. All you have to do is copy link location and then paste it in url. As for the bribery system, I'm still unlucky (lucky based on your percentages) and keep getting only oral on every monster that I can bribe. It's a new save and I have no idea what is causing that. I restarted but to no avail. As for what Censuur said, I actually like the ideas that some of the girls could have a special type of job. For example, the squishy only magic daughter could teach you special spells as her job. Some of the others could farm or fish for special food that have better properties (For example, one "meaty" fish from the daughter could give you full hunger or a special fruit could be "juicy" and fill both water and hunger by half or full (rare though)).

Yea hence the suggestion that you can automate the process over time, or even just set your daughters to manage the garden for you after you've made the initial investment pay off by having them mature using the fruits you've grown.

It also seems the file has now been removed due to TOS violation? What thenotthinkingatall says works in getting a working link, the file itself is fine but the link seems to be problematic.

If my knowledge hasn't been corrupted too much after lurking on here for so long, MediaFire decided to block this site so any links directly from this site to that one will be blocked. You have to manually type in any links now or copy them into the url.

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B10P7B (Updated March 30th, 2014)

Well I had posted the same link on hongfire.com and rpgmakervx.net, but I copied the link from one of those two sites and pasted it here... and it literally copied the link as you see it (with the dot-dot-dot and not the actual link). So the link was inoperable. They should all be working now unless there are issues as you said between mediafire and ULMF. The links work fine for me though (and they did not before I fixed them).

I see you guys are still having trouble with the link though. Maybe I can upload via Mega and/or 4shared sometime today in case others are having the same issue. If anyone would like that then please let me know which of the two you'd prefer as I have no way of seeing (from my end) who advertises the most or makes you wait the longest to get the file.

As for the daughters having special talents.. I've thought about having them teach their own particular school of magic at some point (which could lead to everyone being able to learn all types of damaging magic), but that will probably have to wait a while. I don't think I've even set them up to learn Earth or Wind magic yet. >.>;

But then I risk them being less unique or some being obsolete at later points in the game. Hopefully I can set the late game up such that it's ideal to take certain children to certain areas. Currently it just makes it a little easier if you happen to have certain children against certain monsters (Adivia is good against any undead, Charlene for green slimes, and Vallerie is likely the most useful to have at all times).

Thanks for the suggestion of them finding special items when you send them out to collect, but it might have to be special coins or such because adding extra food items, water, etc... would mess up the item menu because they wouldn't be located with the other foods. I do already have the coins in-game (or at least the idea and variables assigned to each one). I originally had planned on having them be earned through challenges in the statue room but having the children randomly find them would be a nice way to find extras without having to directly work for them.

Some would actually be finding the same coin. Nadie and Adivia for example would be finding The Living Dead coins. Each coin has a representation of opposing forces etched on it... I wish I could actually have a graphic to represent each one in the game. :)

Coins work too. Mega would be fine with me. The different daughters having different powers works out wonders in my point. Maybe you can have end game bosses that require their special skills to let you get to them or actually let you win. As for the coins, maybe you can represent them by clicking on them in menu and Sienna or their daughter will talk about them and an icon will come up.

I was thinking maybe let them find special items than do something that food doesn't already cover, we have conditions that decrease your abilities, maybe make them able to synthesize something that benefits them, a temporary or (rarely) a permanent buff.

The issue with them just finding more food is that there is generally already plenty of food to go around, and while just finding coins could be useful, it'd be more interesting to have them do something unique.

I think a good idea for this would be a type of medicine or potion/super-food. It can completely heal you/fill your stats. Or it can make it so that you can't get trauma or injuries for several days, or your hunger and thirst go down very slowly. You only get ingredients.

She could have her daughters go out and they could (very rarely) find some of her husbands mementos (taken from Sienna's house of course) that increases her spirit and lowers her guilt/libido.

Something that I feel that would be very interesting is that you could add a very slim chance to have a dungeon be reset (monsters re-spawn stronger than before) every time if you gamble. Would be interesting and would be a good way to get gold/annoy people if they haven't finished that dungeon yet.

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B10P7B (Updated March 30th, 2014)

I guess I've decided to have only 4 spell books (still need to make the ice book and do the learning events on the not-fire spells).
I'm sure I'll figure out something else for the other two shelves.

The coins will of course be used to exchange for something more unique, such as equipment upgrades for the children. Clothing + endurance, wand power upgrades, and of course intelligence. After those are maxed out then I might have unlimited life point and magic point upgrades so that the coins won't become useless. I'd like to add more than one type of outfit for each girl but I'll have to wait and see how difficult that will be.

I may add other things too such as unique spells or such.

Speaking of which, poor Marissa doesn't even have her own unique set of spells yet. I need to make her acid spells sometime.

Oh and I updated the OP with a Mega link.

And here:

I'm having a rather difficult time finding a good art image for the following coins:
Frostburn (an image of Fire & Ice together somehow, preferably ice that is on fire)
Acid Rain (any image of rain killing/destroying something/someone)
Poison Ivy (the plant... the internet is flooded with images of DC's Poison Ivy, which is rather annoying when you want the plant)
The Dying Fish (a fish out of water and gasping for air)

Some of these are easy enough to find, but commonly they are real images and I would prefer something drawn as it will translate better to a coin. Any shape or size will do.
(Edit: I found some and tried to make coins with them but they didn't turn out very well...)

How do you want them to be more specifically? Pixelated images or drawn or anything else to make it better fit the game. Would an anime like image work too?

Thanks for the Mega link. I honestly believe four books is enough. If you feel like you need more spells maybe add a fusion type element? Like train once with fire and twice with ice and it will give you a blind spell (I doubt this will be needed though but could be useful in future harder boss fights). Or you can have where if you find one of said coins, you can merge it with the book the learn new spells that mix the book and coins elements. (I always think of stuff so tell me if I get annoying =P)

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B10P7B (Updated March 30th, 2014)

I had to change change the subject for a couple of the images that I wanted but I'm pretty happy with these:

The Warrior Mage Coin

The Living Dead Coin

The Frozen Dragon Coin

The Vinegar Coin

The Poison Ivy Coin

The Gasping Fish Coin

I like the living dead and fish coins the best.
I feel like the others are lacking in contrast.
I hate browsing the internet for images though so these will do. xD
Edit 2: But I have been practicing with another image so I might go back and redo these at some point.

Edit: But if you do find an image that you think would work better then feel free to share and I'll see what I can do with it.
Images that tend to work the best have nice muted colors throughout with very few extreme white or black colors.

Suggestions are never annoying. :) I always enjoy reading suggestions. I might not agree or like all suggestions but I would never discourage them as more suggestions and ideas are always welcome because even when I don't like a suggestion it could easily inspire other ideas or help me think of a different way of doing something.

I was wondering what exactly you're trying to show with the poison ivy, as the plant itself is most clearly identified by its color (the coin would sooner strike me as herbs than poison ivy) so maybe a different kind of plant/image would be more fitting here, or include a an image showing the effect of poison ivy along with the plant itself.

Maybe vinegar is also a bit obscure, but you're fairly hamstrung on that one ;P

Other than that, the images look great

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B10P7B (Updated March 30th, 2014)

Not sure if I explained yet but each coin is supposed to represent two opposing elements. There's 12 elements in the game.
Physical and Mystical: The warrior mage seemed the most logical choice.
Life and Death: What's more alive when dead than a zombie?
Fire and Ice: A frozen dragon seemed fitting.
Water and Acid: See below.
Earth and Poison: A poison plant seems ideal, but which one?
Air and Vacuum: A fish out of water. Lives in a vacuum of sorts.. dies in air.

I agree about the ivy and it's not a very good image but I will likely use it as a placeholder for now.

Yeah it can be fairly difficult to find something that embodies both acid and water, but vinegar is actually those two things.

Rain that's obviously melting through something would have been better but that's more difficult to find than you would think. xP

Re: The Fairy, the Succubus, and the Abyss. V1B10P7B (Updated March 30th, 2014)

It depends on how symbolic you're willing to make the images here, Air and Vacuum could also be a symbol of a hurricane with an eye in the middle.
-Tension

Water and acid could be symbolized by just about anything melting, as it transitions gradually into a fluid state, but if you're leaning toward actual acidic rain just rust would symbolize that fairly clearly.
-Destabilization

As for earth and poison, a poisonous plant might be more symbolic for a unity between the two, rather than opposition, a wilting plant or rotting fruit might be an option here.
-Decay

While the others are already fine as is, I couldn't resist:

Fire and ice could accurately represented by fire melting just about anything, letting go of the water aspect of ice it really just becomes a symbol for a solid state.
-Change/transition

Life and death is probably as good as you can get, nothing to add there
-Preservation

Physical and mythical is another tricky one and a warrior-mage is fitting, I just find the image stands out from the others a bit, possibly due to it being darker on the front of the image while the background is brighter, which is inverted for the other images. Another option might be something materializing from nothing, taking physical shape due to mythical influences.
-Creation

Hopefully there's at least some inspiration to be found here ;P

Deadly nightshade, or maybe Angel's trumpets. The flowers are fairly identifiable.

Quickly uploaded an update to Mega.

Maybe I can update the other links tomorrow. Too tired tonight.

Nightshade would be an amazing plant but I don't think it is an opposition. This is a hard one since it has to be something that poisons the earth.... You could be a little more symbolic by adding pollution or corruption of the earth in some ways or another.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll try to give this some thought today.

Pollution, radiation, etc.. would certainly be easy enough but those are a bit futuristic for Sienna's world.

You could take poison to its more symbolic sense, where it is effectively interrupting/blocking a healthy process. The tricky bit is the eventual overlap between the effects of poison and the element of "death" and also the effect of poison being fairly gradual, being difficult to show in a static image. You can go for the classic poisoned apple symbol or a scorpion stinger dripping with venom. Alternatively you can go with something like a blight, where you have an image of a decaying tree with all the leaves on the ground, the earth around it infected with a deadly poison.

A poisoned apple might do, but it could be obscure if the apple isn't obviously poison (which can be difficult to portray without color).

I might use an image of a trapdoor spider, since it utilizes both venom and manipulation of earth to get its prey.
