Re: Anime: Highschool of the Dead

I repeat, I like Saeko. She's an interesting character. I just don't like the fact that they tossed her in a skimpy outfit because the laundry wasn't done, and it doesn't look like they'll be putting her in anything more in the near future.

Yes, it's amazing that they've still managed to make her act fairly bad ass despite the outfit, but I'd still prefer her wearing something a little more.
They get clothes next episode I believe, all of them. Keep in mind that between the last two episodes, it's only been one night, and the girls want clothes once we hit daytime.

^^;; Never expected that on a Hentai forum, the main complaint I'd find was too much fanservice.

On the other hand, that has been the major war by fans of this series: either they came for the zombies, or they came for the fanservice, or they're of a small minority (including me) who enjoy both.

i like zombie stuff and thats what got me to start watching the series once someone pointed it out to me. After watching it a bit i started liking it regardless of the zombies and i am one of those people who hates waiting for the next episode to come out. i watched it asap when it came out yesterday on kumby.

It begins releasing episodes on AnimeTake very shortly after it airs, though usually it's safe to bet that it will be there Monday. The best one to get it seems are either [GG] or [HorribleSubs] (GG does the less-censored At-X version, while HorribleSubs is the top quality on subtitle accuracy. Not that GG is bad at it though).

I joined the forums when I was like, 18. I'm 22 now, I've changed a bit over some rather interesting times. I'm here for the company and the conversation. Plus I find wacky shit.

Though, I always did have a problem with things that flirted a little too heavily on the line between porn and trying to be a serious show.

Well there is a little difference - Highschool of the Dead mostly doesn't have any more fanservice than one might see in real life in these situations (them school uniforms don't exactly only exist in Anime, after all) (Yes I realize that I'm stretching it on the bath scene, but they were admittedly drunk).

On the other hand, Seikon no Qwaser has titty sucking all the way from start to finish, including during the final battles (the "Qwasars" get their power from Soma, which is in breastmilk).

The difference is in whether or not the show itself tries to take itself seriously.

Seikon tried to act like it was a serious show all the way through, and it worked for the first twelve episodes, and then it died for the rest through 24.

Highschool of the Dead is basically just trying to run entirely on Rule of Cool and Most Common Superpower, and it's doing it very well I think.

Re: Anime: Highschool of the Dead

its true that many of the things might get that many panty shots, and comically oversized breasts can almost just be artistic license, a lot of just how the anime is framed is what i would call gratuitous (thats beyond necessary folks). like in episode 5 where you first see the kids on the bridge, it starts on pinkies breasts and she stumbles backwards. thats not necessary, it would be just as good if it didn't do that, why does it do that?

panty shots and scantly clad getting drunk is perfectly acceptable, but the way the show is shot and the boob jiggle sound effects make you feel like a voyeur and detract from what is happening.

i think there is a difference between not taking yourself 100% seriously and being soft core pornography though.

also:
Currently we are constantly researching how to better portray realistically the jiggling breast.
i knew it.

oh, don't get me wrong, i enjoyed it muchly. that shouldn't stop me discussing something that i think is detracting from a very good and well thought out zombie movie. i mean they actually act intelligently most of the time and their dumb decisions have consequences. more than you can say for pretty much everything.

I think this is one of the main reasons it's garnering so much attention and acclaim (and controversy) in Japan. The series has been ridiculously popular because of the realistically portrayed characters (ish) given the situations. But there's also been the controversy of the fanservice - some people want a straight up zombiefest, and some are fine with things as they are. Everyone has different tastes on it, but that's the nature of any series I guess.

The "too much fanservice is detracting from the story" argument has come up in other series too, namely the Negima manga, Seikon no Qwaser (manga and anime, anime ESPECIALLY), Dance in the Vampire Bund (manga and anime), and several other titles.

The Negima! manga has too much fanservice? Unless I'm missing something, I don't think it has too much, or at least so much that it detracts from the story. Then again, I'm one of those people that actually reads a manga for it's story, so maybe I'm missing something these other people aren't.

I like them to be in proportion to the rest of the body, size irregardless - it has to make sense.

Re: Anime: Highschool of the Dead

Episode 8 has been released by [GG]subs (the guys doing the less-censored version). With Episode seven having ended the night at the house and adding Alice to the group as the token loli, episode eight moves us back into the main story (as well as giving clothes to the girls to cover that gripe).

EDIT: HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS EPISODE WAS AWESOME. Return to the story with force!!! And episode nine will, it appears, be all Takashi and Saeko. Fans rejoice!

Ripply boob was a bit odd tho...

Fuck yes! Is it the chapter where Saeko tells Takashi how much fighting turns her on?
