(And the winner of most creative title thread goes to!)
Having been on the run from the agents of the most powerful empire in the world for two years after being trained as an assassin for four more, Lexwyn was no stranger to danger. Still, her stomach twisted into nervous knots as she made her way down the road toward the allegedly demon infested town of Artmirst. She'd been hearing rumors of it for weeks now, the tale of the demonic invasion having spread throughout the entire Badarian Empire, and the idea that, perhaps, she could be free of the agents of the Lich King there.
She'd been trying to be free of herself of the monsters servants for years now, ever since she'd murdered her keepers and fled, but they had followed her everywhere. From the depths of the Amazonian jungle, to the sands of the Anudor dessert, and even into the frozen forests of the elves in the North, the agents of the Lich King had followed her. She had found no comfort, even among the Lich Kings enemies, who held no trust or pity for a run-away from their enemies core of assassins. So, she had returned to Badaria itself, where she thought her enemies might not look for her. She'd been wrong.
Now, on the way to the town along the main highway, Lexwyn had met no one for almost a week now. She was almost at the town, with only a few more hours of travel before she arrived. It was past mid day, and the sun was beginning to darken from gold to orange as it approached the lone mountain she could see on the horizon. Her weapons, a short barreled rifle and a dagger, were within easy reach. She'd been traveling on foot rather than on horseback, hoping to avoid notice. She was surprised, then, when a riderless horse appeared down the road, coming toward her at a trot. It looked, however, as though the beast was injured somehow, as something that was clearly red and slimy was dangling beneath it.
