While this was going on, Arkeia was suddenly overcome with an uncomfortable pricking sensation in her back. They were being watched! She spun, hand on her blade hilt, but nobody was there. She scanned carefully, and a small movement revealed what she had sensed. Another nun, watching them from one of the convent towers. She was... smiling? Arkeia was only able to catch a brief glimpse of her before she slipped back inside, but she was certain of what she saw.
The trapped novice shrieked as Karaz gave the door a thourough but ineffectual smashing. "
That won't do any good! The only person who can open the hermitage is Mother Superior Yemma! She had the passphrase! If she's gone, what am I going to do?! I'm going to die in here! Why did I ever want to become a nun?!" the poor girl all but wailed as she broke down into sobs.
Maybe the Mother Superior left the password somewhere inside. Her chambers, perhaps?
Alia returned to the group with something quiet strange in her hands: a veil of strange, dark, liquid-like cloth thaat seemed to slowly boil away in direct sunlight. Her magical knowledge immediately told her what it was: a veil of invisibility. Only good once, and only then for about five minutes, and violent motions would tear it, but useful nevertheless.
[The Veil is a 'scroll' of Invisibility. It casts the spell as a level 5 mage one time at no HP cost.]
Faeyna did her best to console the poor girl trapped in the hermitage, assuring her that they would search for a way to free her before the day was out. With that, the girls returned to the convent, and stepped inside.
The once pleasant courtyard was now an abattoir: orc, goblin, and even a troll corpse lay splayed out and rotting on the wet cobblestone. The stench was atrocious, and the girls were vastly relieved when Grenbo told them that his former group had already thoroughly searched the area for anything valuable. Still, goblins were notoriously unreliable, and maybe there was still something to find?
The convent was laid out as a three sided square, with squat wooden towers at each corner, connected by single story buildings between. The center of the convent was dominated by an enormous garden, now overgrown like a jungle; the place were the demon vines were hiding, according to Grenbo. The garden lay ahead of the women, and in the tower to their right was the badly damaged remains of the chapel. Thankfully, the chapel doors were open, and it appeared completely empty. To their left was the tower that Arkeia had seen the other nun peering out of, but unfortunately the door was locked.
