Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

While no doubt to the captives and perhaps Irie herself the rogue seemed like a goddess, expertly maneuvering past the chaos, just barely brushing past disaster and speeding onwards. The wandering adventurer appearing as nothing short of mythological creature, coming from the night and navigating them to safety through the cries and fires!

From the rogues point of view however, things looked far less... heroic or supernatural. "Wuaah!" the rogue the horses to one side, then to the other each time dodging past the numerous continiously appearing obstacles! Ducking beneath falling strands, ripped rope and even around some foolish panicking guards keen to step right in her way! "Gang way!" she'd call out, as with a final rush onwards the horses leapt out and onto the open road free from the caravan!

With the fireworks and shouts all but behind her, the rogue looked forward to the open road and then back "Yahooo~!" she'd cry out happily and beam a cheery smile to the captives! She had managed it... Not to mention absolutely everyone seemed to have managed the trip absolutely unscatched! A feat on its own... even if it was accomplished through what seemed supreme luck!

The rogue would continue onwards some time, before finally the horses calmed down and she'd find a nice detour to take the carriage to, before letting everyone out of the cage.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Many of the people piled out quickly though a few needed to be helped out due to previous injuries. One of these was Irianna though none of the onlookers tried to help the fierce looking woman. Maybe it had to due with the unnatural aura Rikke could feel about her. No doubt it would follow here forever. She may have had a change of heart but the scars of what and who she was would forever mar her. Still the rogue offered a hand which was taken reluctantly by Irianna. The woman hopping down to stand next her. One arm hung at an odd angle rapid bruising indicating a broken bone. The rest of her was scuffed up as well. A busted lip and bloody knuckles matched the large bruise about her eye. Even her knees showed signs of rough combat though likely from her own effort of defense.

For a moment the villagers milled about before finally after the shock of the recent escape finally jogged them to life they began to thank Rikke profusely. Still it left her with a slight problem. She had saved these souls from slavery or even death, and while most of them could walk there was little for them to go. None knew they was to a village or even a town and to follow the road would just get them captured again.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Ouch... they sure did a number on you." Rikke winced lightly as she helped Iriana out, only to moments later be assaulted by cheers from all around! Even if they were rather weak seemed the slaves couldn't help, but be overjoyed by quite the unexpected twist of fate!

The girl smiled sheepishly even subtly blushing from the sheer affection, yet a subtle glance at Iriannas state quickly reminded her they weren't out of the woods yet!

"We can all share a drink or just make a massive bash later, but for now first we've got to get out of these woods and away from those slavers." Rikke quickly announced, her mind quickly thinking over that out of everyone... only she really was battle read--- A cry from a nearby horse suddenly cutting the girls thoughts off.

Rikke looked to the two horses previously running the carriage through the woods, as her eyes subtly widened with a clear idea forming! "Is anyone an able rider or scout?" she'd look through the slaves "I'm the only able fighter, so~ Its probably best I stay here, but we need to find out if there's any cities nearby..." the girl walked over the horses with a confident sway and steps "Luckily we've got these guys! A few scouts could take these and ride them out to look around!"

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

A few younger woman raised their hands, they had the look of farm girls. They knew how to ride but could they scout. Not that Rikke had much of a choice. Irianna looked about before tending to her own arm. As Rikke spoke she heard a sickening crunch and pop and several of the peasants get very pale. Still with her riders selected it left what to do with the rest of them. Watching the peasants Irianna began to push the cart into the trail. "Someone needs to help me push this over it will buy us time.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Alright, but be careful." Rikke would smile and nod to the girls, wishing the best of luck before turning to see what was Iriana doing? "What... are you doing?" the rogue turned her head and blinked, not quite sure what the girls intentions were.

"The girls will need to know where we are, so lets try and keep a low profile and setup camp." Rikke looked to the carriage, for now all that was left was to wait and atleast setup some limited defenses would the worst come.... hopefully the farmgirls would be lucky in their search!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Having set her own arm, the woman tried to block the rather narrow road with the wagon. "I figure if they come looking for us which they will this will slow them enough so we can get further way to set up a camp. That way when we send the riders we might have a chance." What ever Rikke's final choice Irianna wouldn't fight her about it and follow her lead. Still for as long as it took Rikke to get here on foot the girls might be awhile especially with already exhausted horses. The only resources she had was the people she rescued and the wagon she had escaped with. That at least contained some food and water though that wouldn't last long. The wagon itself had a canvas cover that draped over the iron cage that had held them.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke thought over the plan briefly "Hum..." had their escape leave tracks to follow? "Lets instead hide the wagon out of view." she'd offer the alternative plan "If they find it blocking the road, they'll know where we stopped... but~ If they don't find anything they won't even have a reason to scout the area." she'd nod with a smile and if there were indeed some tracks or hints of their turn the rogue would work, with aid or not to cower them up!

The vagon itself though had relatively useful materials on its own! From food supplies to it itself once slightly dismantled acting as a rather shoody but sturdy enough haven for the escapees "I know it's not much or pretty, but its just temporary." Rikke would announce as she herself would look to stay outside as the lookout.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Irianna raised an eyebrow and helped Rikke as best she could. The others did their best but none of them had any sort of experience for it. For the most part Rikke was able to cover up their tracks that left off the side of the road. And it wasn't long after that the sound of horses coming from the path they had escaped from could be heard. They were some distance still but the thuding of hooves echoed threw the forest causing some of the people to cringe in terror.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

With their improv camp all set up, the rogue would waste little time to share some of her tales to perhaps raise the people spirits, albeit she would flatter them up light... and remove the more pervy parts of it all!

Yet just as the rogue shared her tales with a cheery smile, suddenly Iriana seemed to stand up and turn away? Rikke blinked curiously at the notion, yet soon enough she could hear echoes of riders! Yet these horses sounded far from the exhausted ones the scouts rode off on!

"Shh~ Everyone stay quiet." the rogue placed a finger on her lips as she herself rushed towards the source, yet no too far from the camp. It was best she kept an eye on them if they got too close... or worse yet if all the riders headed towards the camp!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Luck roll Rikke vs trackers 11 partial success!

Rikke tried to cheer the group as much as she could sharing stories of her exploits. Only the youngest of the captive seemed into it at all. What would really help would be a fire to cheer them but Irianna kept such idea's in check after all a fire would simple announce their presence.

When the sound of hooves echoed out Rikke saw the people huddle together some sobbing softly while the rest shivered in fright. Irianna however grabbed the heftiest stick she could and held it in her good arm. Once more Rikke felt the darkness surround the stick she grabbed confirming that it was Irianna herself that emanated the shadowy and tainted aura she held felt from the weapon earlier. Turning her attention back to the mounted slavers Rikke head the hooves stop. For what seemed an eternity there was no sound just her own breathing and the sobs of the scared people. Then she heard movement coming threw the forest multiple figures spreading out. Sadly she couldn't tell which way they where going.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The other directions didn't matter, only the paths toward the camp! Hoping that the captured ones would remain silent and huddled up, Rikke would attempt to find the perfect spot between where the riders echoed out and the camp itself.

"Iri, stay here if they slip past me. Don't fight, just make some noise." Rikke would smile to the tainted girl and giving her confident nod, would rush up ahead into the forest! If there would be a battle it was best it drew the others away from the camp and to the rogue - she'd manage it!.. somehow

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke crept threw the darkness, her eyes scanning the area around her in a fevered attempt to find or intercept the slavers. Honed by her time in the streets and in dungeons, Rikke moved like fog threw the night. Her first encounter with the slavers was a man still mounted though something seemed off. It looked like he was standing up in the saddle against the neck of his horse. As she planned her move the trees parted with a slight wind revealing the moon. Thankfully due to her experience Rikke didn't call out even as her eyes widened. Before for was no mounted rider but a full fledged Centaur. His hooves stomped the ground as he scanned the woods. He hadn't spotted her, and few could due to her skill and thankfully this time her luck didn't turn sour.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

'Come out, come out wherever you are~' Rikke thought in her mind as she crept along the forest, quickly nearing the last echos of the slaver riders! From tree to tree, from cover to cover the rogue moved silently even if her bright orange hair hardly fitted her stealthy motions!

Still it wouldn't be long until she heard a few branches snap?! Rikkes eyes subtly widened, before with a smirk she moved upon the target and slipped out to take a peek at the sla----ver?

Rikke blinked in surprise as there in the woods stood a... centaur? It was the first time the rogue had seen the creature and indeed just as the pictures showed and tales described he was half-man, half-horse! His lower body that of the beast, while his upper body seemed to be of a particulary beefy looking man!

There... were no centaurs among the slavers, Rikke had been certain of that much! Slipping behind cover the girl placed a single finger on her luscious lips in thought, before nodding "Psst~" she'd slip out of her hiding spot with a smile and step into the open! "What are you doing here?" with the other potential riders around introductions would have to wait!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke's sudden reveal startled the centaur enough that he reared up in surprise revealing the glint of his bulging muscles as well as another thing. Still with the initial surprise overcome he quickly calmed a bit before turning to Rikke. "You are not with the slavers from the plains. Someone has pretty as you would be kept in a cage." At his own words the centaur blushed slightly. "Still the woods are full of their ilk you should find shelter and leave this place we will see to it that none of them make it out of the woods.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke giggled as her appearance seemed to rather shock and give a fright even to a creature such as this! Though his sudden jerk did subtly hint at something the rogue, didn't quite fully catch on to "Ha~! Knew it!" the rogue grinned victoriously, she just knew there were no centaurs among the slavers "Nope, not a slaver. Actually, I think they'd be out for my blood at the moment.. I sorta broke out a fair number of the captives." the girl kept the 'All of them' part of the number slaves to herself for now. Yet seeing the single centaur here she'd remember the other hooves, her eyes subtly widening "Wait... the other few riders... you're not alone?" the girl headed out to find the enemies... yet she just may have encountered some allies!

Still as the creature spoke its words came nothing short of a surprise... and it wasn't the clumsy or well blunt compliment! Seemed he assumed the rogue was one of the good guys! Guess the heroines charms hardly faded! "Well~ We're sorta all... lost." the girl smiled sheepishly rubbing the back of her neck innocently "S-sorry about intruding into your forests like this."

If the other 'riders' were part of this one tribe, perhaps by sheer lucky chance the rogue had ran into the perfect allies to help her aid the slave escape!

"Yes just a few. We heard a large commotion in the forest and came to investigate." Hearing the next part the man nodded frowning all the while. Well then we must be sure to get you all out. Lead me to your camp. My brothers and sisters will not keep them occupied for long. If Rikke opted to lead him to the camp it would cause quite the stir and a heated stare down between him and Irianna. Still nothing came to violence as he began to direct people threw the woods counting on Rikke to make sure no one fell behind.

Rikke would smile and nod, there was little to no reason not to show the centaur her campsite. Truthfully, while the rogue spectaculary busted everyone out... what she'd do after never truly crossed her mind! She could use all the help she could get! "This way!"

It wouldn't be long until the duo arrived at the camp, the unfortunate group looking on with wide eyes at the sudden arrival of the centaur "We've a few out there looking for any towns or the like as well, but they should be back soon." Rikke stood proudly as she looked on at her patchwork, albeit still smartly designed camp!

It would be then, she'd note the silent staredown between the centaur and Irie. Both looking at one another sharply, as Rikke could even note the centaurs body tense---- "And that's Irie!" she'd suddenly jump in-between their gaze with a cute smile "She's been helping me fight a cult and aided in the rescue as well." Rikke seemingly vouched for the girl looking to the centaur with that clear unspoken message.

Hopefully the farmgirls would come back soon, asthe rogue would indeed assist everyone with packing up and gave the centaur control of the group for now. Albeit it was a little risky just trusting the beast, he and his kin were the groups best chance at safety.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"You said you had two on horseback? The centaur scuffed the ground with his hooves. "I will stay and guide them back to the camp while my sister takes you." The Centaur waited a moment for Rikke to object or add anything before he took a goat horn to his lips and blew. As it trumpeted out the former slaves huddled together. A few moments later a female centaur arrived. She was almost naked with only a small primitive wrap to keep her hefty breasts contained and a bloody spear. The two spoke in their language with the female casting a dark glance at Irianna before nodding. As they spoke Rikke noticed the similarity between the two. Both seemed rather strong though the female was smaller over all. Both had blondish tan fur on their horse bodies matched in color in their hair. Their eyes however were a bright hazel with far larger irises than a normal human.

The woman came up and bowed a slight head at Rikke. "Come this way we have driven the slavers off for a bit though there was far more than we anticipated. You must have cause quite the ruckus. The woman would lead the small group threw the woods for a few hours until the forest thinned again and small village emerged. "All of you are allowed to enter with the exception of your cursed friend. Her taint my bring bad luck so I must consult the shaman before allowing her entry. I will send out a medicine woman to tend to her injuries. Tainted she may be but we are no cruel."

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke would cover her ears lightly as the horn blew out, only to followed by a seemingly deafening silence moments before another centaur appeared! Yet... this one was female? Somehow the rogue had always only heard of male centaurs, albeit there being females made perfect sense! How else would their kin continue!.. although the rogue had a few subtle assumptions.

Still looking at the two they certainly seemed like brother and sister! Though with the girls limited exposure to the exotic race, perhaps all of their kin beared similar resemblance! Perhaps it was according to clans... perhaps... oh~ Rikke couldn't help, but keep a bright smile on her face! Not only did she help some unfortunate souls, she had encountered a friendly race she had never seen before! Lucky~!

Rikke giggled sheepishly at the ruckus comment "Guilty as charged." she wasn't sure she could've made her escape any more bombastic than it was! Either way, soon enough the group got a move on and it seemed the ever-present chip on Irie shoulder reared its ugly head again, though on the matter the rogue would allow the girl speak for herself.

"If the answer'll be no. Wait for me, alright? We'll chat what to do next." Rikke would nod to Irie as they continued onwards, even though it hardly felt pleasant to leave the girl out here... it was completely understandable and the rogue did not wish to push the centaur hospitality! Soon she'd arrive to this whole new village of the exotic creatures... Rikke could hardly wait! "Hey by the way, we didn't get a chance to itnroduce ourselves. I'm Rikke, a... wandering adventurer if you will." she'd introduce herself to their guide.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Irie simply nodded and waited outside as the group traveled into the village proper. As the Rikke approached she noticed a wall that was more fence than wall directing flow to an open area guarded by two more centaur. These fellows had light leather armor covering their chests and flanks. They nodded at the woman and Rikke's group. "My name is Phobe and you already met my brother Marcus. It is an honor to meet a Dea." The term was unfamiliar to Rikke but sounded like the language of the people around here or at least of the centaur. "Please wait here. I will speak to the shaman and send a healer to your friend." Watching Phobe leave for a rather large lodge like structure, she noticed that most of the buildings didn't seem built for horses or at least horse shapes. In fact the more she looked around the more she saw open pastures with horses next to the houses.
