Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

Re: Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

Current real-time global illumination combine CPU and GPU using baked patch graph to determine which object influence other. Render the scene without global illumination and let CPU transfer lighting calculation between object.

You don't need GI. You can directly light the model up and directly bake shadows into the texture or better yet into a map like ambient occlusion.
Something like Atelier Sophie can look really good with just some textures and some material shading on things like cloth and metal.

Re: Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

ME:A is a terrible example to base one's understanding of the difficulties in game development. The team was overambitious with the number of characters and spoken dialogue, inexperienced with the Frostbite engine, and straddled with a management that neither cared for their artistic vision or spending the time to polish games (evident by reports that they constantly refused to let the developers fix the faces and animations before launch, preferring to outsource those tasks to a cheaper studio).

The real reason why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon is because it's just not a big enough market. Anyone with enough experience and skills goes to where the money is in the mainstream market and investors with enough money to fund good games almost always expect huge returns.

Realtime-GI reduce lighting production cost because you don't need to wait for baking. You only need to set the scene and bake object patch then you can adjust lighting as much as you want.

Currently, both method cannot be used on procedural game.

Most baked lighting solution such as AutoDesk's Beast using RayTrace which try to mimic GI and can take a long time to baked. I believe big game studio has build server to handle that.

Some have decide to bake 3D-light probe, A 3D texture store spherical harmonic coefficient, instead of baked lightmap such as Recore.

Re: Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

Like most things, its boils down to money.

Good 3D hentai can be made, -right now-, but no one would ever foot the bill, let alone sell enough copies to be profitable.

But they don't make games didn't they?

I think the problem with 3D games right now apart from animations (which indeed are a hard part but using unity/ue4 with their respectives marketplaces can be fixed for the most part) is the time required to make everything. Even more if you have a non-beast/shitty pc like for example mine xD.
Using UE4 and having almost nothing on a project is made into a hell with stuff like "compiling shaders" (btw the term shader tends to vary based on the engine used. In ue4 a shader is an instruction on a material. Is something that happens when rendering a frame).

About the GI stuff, we, UE4 users are fucked up with that if we wanna use real time GI, because there's no good solution so far for it. Or at least not an unbuilt one (just LPV... which is far from being perfect). But I think RTGI is not something that necessary when there's been almost no 3d-market for h games so far. That kind of tech is more oriented to open-worlds and that kind of games.

But yeah I keep thinking the main problem is "time". For me it's taking ages more than what I expected to have something publicly playable released.

Derp... I thought it discuss 3D Hentai
And not game only

Since above post mentioned Tofusoft - Umemaro and other 3D Hentai

Well , My bad~

Oh yeah you're right, even tho games were mentioned, even in the title is not specified this discussion is about games only. Got influenced by the shaders/gi and such techs being talked about :p

Re: Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

I think that sex has still a long way to go before the market is large enough to support complex products. There are not alot of 3D sex games for the same reasons that there are not alot of science-fiction porn movies. They cost much more and take much more work to produce that just taking a camera and filming some sex scenes. Remember the Janet Jackson nipple incident on the superbowl a few years ago? I find it crazy that nobody really cares about the amount of violence shown on television and in movies, but show a nipple and everybody freaks out.

When I started working on my game someone told me that people wanted to see sci-fi or sex but not both. That person couldn't understant that some people are more interested in sex scenes with developed characters than just sex scenes. It's probably why there is fan art that takes popular characters and puts them in sexual situations: because sex scenes are more interesting when you "know" the characters. We still have a very long way to go.

Re: Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

Has nothing to do with 3D, Mass Effect and most Western games just have ugly character designs. There are plenty of good 3D hentais. And this had little to do with taste for anime-like design either cuz there are plenty of good 3D hentais that aren't of that design, the problem is that Western games deliberately make their characters ugly for god knows what reasons. SJWs? They always behind shit like this so its probably them, who knows. Having even one attractive fictional character might make them feel insecure and offended or some shit. Could be that mainstream Western gamers just like or are attracted to ugly characters, never could understand their tastes so can't really say.

It's actually because technology's getting better. Look at the new DC fighting game... what's-it-called.

Now that they have more processing power to work with they're adding more detail to the faces, more detail leads to that kind of general unattractiveness. Back in the days of the ps2 and what not, character designs were simple and attractive in that way. Now that they want to add more detail overall the detail's taking away from the simplicity and making them unattractive. Not to say that a good sense of beauty won't fix that, but it's pretty much the general root cause.

Poison Ivy looked better in the Arkham Asylum games then she did in Arkham Knight because of this.

Re: Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

Man, I was really hoping someone would make a hentai Mass Effect with alien tentacles or hentai Doom with horrific demonic tentacle creatures, but animation problems with Mass Effect Andromeda really shows why a good 3D game is so hard. Lots of those technologies look like they take a lot of budget, and even then they get a lot of things wrong.

This youtube video about making ME Andromeda really sums it up.

What? I've been playing Artificial Academy 2 for like 3 years now. Hentai animations in that game is good. Triple AAA companies just suck at making good sex. Cuz they're all afraid of feminazis putting on their barbed strapons and fucking the devs in the ass. They don't want that when their CEOs already do that in the first place. :p

Anyways, by default the big western video game developers always suck at making hentai animations. I do not expect them to succeed. They're just driven by profit. So they're useless for my own purposes.

However I did give Witcher a try for its sex scenes. I played it long enough to reach the first one and then after watching it, I uninstalled the game shortly afterwards and went back to Skyrim. Witcher was rather disappointing in terms of sex content. True, AA2 sucked on release, it was the mods that made AA2 the hentai game for me.

And lastly, do not expect anything from big western companies, they're dyed completely in corruption. You should see how they behave when time comes to pay their workers royalties and such cuz they worked on a game that was a massive hit and now they wanna cut their workers out and take all the money for themselves. Useless companies. I'm surprised that people even still try to work for them. That kind of thing should be a deathblow to a corporation.

I just tl;dr through this thread and...
As for Andromeda, Bioware fucked up, end of story.
Extra Credits trying to find excuse rather than stating obvious is another thing, because for a channel that talks about games making they have their own brain dead moments.

As for good 3D hentai games... I am shocked that no one mentioned (or I just didn't see) games from:
Miconisomi

(Censorship is just an visual effect, so patch pretty much removes that).
KISS

(Fucking maids!)
Illusion

(And they focus on 3D that isn't anime-like in apperance for some years now)
Real

(This one is like 6 years old)

And there are even more, some VNs with realtime 3D or barely a game ('games' from ).
Even western devs have their own good looking titles , .

So good hentai 3D game isn't happening, we are already past that. It's just a matter of making new games look better and stuffing some content.

What? Don't want porn? Well then, good for you, there are way more games that look good in 3D and aren't pr0n.

Re: Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

Skimmed through a couple a posts and I'm wondering:

Why has nobody brought up mods in this ?

I mean, don't kid yourself, triple A porn games, 3D or not, aren't happening, period.

the closest to that you're gonna get is either a Kickstarter/patreon or mods for fully functionnal Triple A games already existing.

and in that regard Skyrim might be one of the most furnished exemples, most bethesda games with extended modding really....

some japanese devs have been making 3D games, some of wich with VR support AND VR sex toys, though theses get OBSCENELY expensive quick, most using unity extensively for their purposes and for the most part theses are great but thats about the most we can expect...

Also, for as much as you peoples think Feminazis are part of the equation, they aren't, I mean what can they do at most ?
boycott their product ?
Like THATS gonna make a difference, that kind of peoples wouldn't touch porn anyways, or get laid in the first place...

In AAA industry, feminazi are working in the localizing company, they also working in the game industry.

That's why a lot of japanese games are butchered during the localization process (boob slider is removed, costumes are removed, CGs are removed, dialog & character's personality is changed because it's offensive to feminazi, boob jiggly mechanism is removed, some games are even canceled due to the afraid of backlash).

That's why you see preachy SJW agenda in Baldur's gate expansion (a goblin accuse you of racism for example) and Mass Effect: Andromeda (you meet someone and as an introduction she says she is a transgender aka bad writing), ugly girls also in Mass Effect Andromeda (male ryder is identical to the actor who become his model, female ryder though ... she is ugly even though the actress who become her model is super hot & sexy). There are also quite a lot of cases when western devs are spewing SJW agendas and how he/she hated gamers.

Re: Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

Reminds me of the Smite debacle and the reason why I stopped playing it. Some people whined that one of the goddess was sexualized too much. You know, Kali, the goddess that is usually depicted running around naked or clothed only in severed human limbs and heads. So they censored the shit out of her. Western devs are such pansies. Funny thing is that I think her nudity is supposed to symbolize that she's above all kinds of lewd stuff. If that's true, covering her up is actually more insulting.

We just have to hope for the next Skyrim I guess. I doubt any western devs are going to get heavy into adult stuff any time soon. That Conan game was looking decent for a while but it's not actually released yet right?

I wouldn't say that they are pansies but rather that the current western market does not welcome sex. Would you invest millions of dollars in a game that will have a limited market or one that will have a broader market?

Re: Discussion - Now I know why good 3D hentai isn't happening soon.

Actually, I think with Smite it's more fundamental than that. Smite is trying to be a big e-sports game, and that means it actually does have to go after broad appeal, part of which is not offending people. Given that Kali is a Goddess from a current religion, they do have to take care with depictions of her, lest they offend a chunk of their potential players. Google tells me that 10% of the world is Buddhist, although probably not all of them have access to computers. Still, it seems like a large number of people, and they can kick up enough fuss that Smite would never become a mainstream eSport, hence the devs would have to take their views into account to achieve their goals. They can get away with a lot more risque content for Gods and Goddesses not currently worshipped (e.g. Nu-Wa).

I'd also point out that talk of Feminazi's working in localisation companies is pretty overblown. Localisation is the process of adapting something to the cultural norms of a different country, and Japan does have a very different culture. There's a whole lot of stuff that's viewed as OK in Japan which would get you arrested in the West, especially with regard to younger women/schoolgirls where there is a major difference in culture. Similarly, a lot of stores operate different policies in Japan, meaning that if certain content is in a game it would not be eligible for sale (e.g. Amazon). It may not be a popular viewpoint, but localising that stuff out of games or refusing to commercially localise games focusing on that content is the correct course of action, both from the meaning of localisation and ensuring that the venture can turn a profit. Anyone who wants the authentic Japanese experience should go visit Japan and play some Japanese games.

I would hold out hope though. Some adult games are doing surprisingly well on Patreon. It's not entirely unforeseeable that we could get some talented H-game devs doing stuff. It's certainly unlikely that we'd see companies on the scale of Illusion starting up in the West though, or at least for a while.

I will have to add that lately you don't need a naked loli to get your game butchered by localization. A lot of the butchering doesn't even have anything to do with loli at all. Ex: Personality change (rude man who don't respect woman and shy/obedient women are the main target), culture aproriation bullshit (usually with traditional costume of non-whites), sexy costumes (this happen to male costumes too!), etc

Well, I can't say I'm aware of huge personality shifts in localisation, but those archetypes you suggest do seem to be things that would shift in localisation anyway because they are very Japanese archetypes - especially if you're referring to the "perverted old guy" archetype. Similarly with outfits, localisation needs to adapt to the cultural norms of the target society, and that may mean taking into account the views of a demographic which doesn't exist in Japan (e.g. Native Americans). And finally, you should read up on the rules on Sexy outfits with respect to the age rating authorities - you can get upped from 7+ all the way to 15+ for having too revealing outfits, and companies won't want that. Also, now that I think about it, are you referring to Bravely Default/Second by any chance? Kind of sounds like you are...

Like I said: There is a significant cultural divide between Japan and America/Europe. Whether or not you agree with it, Localisation by definition does have to adapt the source material to suit the new culture. That means it has to adapt from Japanese culture which is a very ethnically uniform society with a fairly strong patriarchal view to Western society which is ethnically diverse and somewhat more liberal. If your personal views identify more with Japanese culture than Western culture, or you want the authentic Japanese version, of course you will view the localisation as butchering the game. But ultimately, the calculation with the localisation is that the localised game will have more general appeal than a game which was merely translated, and that is critical in getting games even released in the West. So the choice is stark: either accept that there will be substantially fewer Japanese games released in the West, or accept that they have to be localised, which you may or may not agree with.

And yeah, to try and steer this back on topic, this is why a lot of Japanese H-games won't get localised. There's a big culture gap in a lot of areas of H-games, for example tentacles, which are mainly a product in Japanese culture due to post-WW2 censorship laws. The West didn't have censorship laws which could be exploited in that way, and so we don't have that portion in our culture at all. There's similar cultural problems for a lot of stuff as well; "weak females" is still quite well entrenched in Japan, where men are overwhelmingly the breadwinners in a family. That's not as true in the West and so it doesn't fly well in mainstream culture, which is a problem for any game that relies on say, exploiting weak female characters - another thing that's quite common in some H-games genres, notably NTR.

Ultimately, we can't rely on localisation for jumpstarting a western H-games scene. There's just too many contentious issues which would either rule out Japanese H-games for mainstream consumption (and by mainstream, I mean in the same way that porn is mainstream; not necessarily something that people talk much about, but widely consumed) or relegate them to niches. We do need our own, Western developed H-games, which reflect the cultural norms of our society. Because simply put, if we don't have Western H-games which tap into the mainstream, we won't have Western H-games at all. Of course, it sucks this is a viewpoint which sucks for people not part of the Western mainstream, but hopefully if Western mainstream H-games take off, we can get more niche stuff flowing from that.
