Disney just bought Marvel for four billion dollars. They now own Spiderman and Iron man... Along with every other Marvel character. Someone please tell me this isn't happening...

Re: Disney just bought Marvel.

Spill.com confirms it, citing The Hollywood Reporter as a source. Take that for what it's worth, but I'd say that this is true.

Re: Disney just bought Marvel.

Lol I already posted this in the Member Announcements thread. Mine was a report from the BBC website, so it should be true.

Omg, they think people flock to the marvel movies because they're marvel. Maybe a little true, but also true is the fact that a lot of people (like me) have lost complete faith in Disney, as most if not all the Disney titles released during the past 10 years have been mediocre at best. Disney bought Pixar, and guess what? The quality of "Pixar" movies fell from completely awesome* to mediocre.

* Based on a thorough market analysis with a test group of three people.

Opps, didn't see that post, hope you don't mind this thread.

But yeah, I really doubt this is a fake. This really does seem like something Disney would do. I bet now we're going to see SpiderMan and Wolverine in a Kingdom hearts game...

Re: Disney just bought Marvel.

I liked Remember the Titans, and Pirates of the Caribbean, so Disney can't be all that bad...

however, the quality of Marvel comics has been rising in my opinion, especially with Wolverine, and the comic versions of George R.R. Martin's Hedge Knight series (both Wolverine and Hedge Knight are violent and vicious. I love it). So, taking a well known family friendly company to overshadow a more adult oriented company is a strange move in the least. Hopefully Disney will not interfere with creative processing, and simply are just greedy fucks who want more and more money.

Re: Disney just bought Marvel.

Oh yes, I completely forgot Pirates of the Carribean. The trilogy was indeed good. It was also one of the very very few movies where Disney said: "Ok, let's get a good director, good budget and give them some room."

Wall-E I found to be pretty good, but it seems for Disney to make something good they need to use little offbranch studios, and they slowly but surely strangle those studios. Take my earlier example of Pixar for example. Ever since Disney took over they're re-using characters. I don't really mind it on a general scale, But C'mon, change the colour of the suit and the hair and they're someone new?

Example: (Omg, this is gonna look bad.) Mr. Incredible from the incredibles, good movie, pre Disney. Now take Bolt, a finished concept, being built after Disney specs. The bodyguards in Bolt are all identical, and are exact copies of Mr. Incredible With the exeption of dark sunglasses and lighter hair. (or was it darker?)

Anyway, It annoys me. Disney keep reusing, Making sequals for the sake of sequals and not for the sake of the story. Taking characters tweaking them slightly and outting them back.

Everyone should probably disregard everything I've said above.

Re: Disney just bought Marvel.

Only thing I've seen that involved Disney that I liked in the last ten years was Pirates and Up. Up shouldn't count, it was simply distributed by them, but still.

I was disagreeing with people up until that last ten years thing was mentioned (Yay for Lion King).

Anyway, my first though when I saw this topic: Chibi Spiderman movies.

Oh no, I don't want Marvel movies littered with pornographic images!

Eh. Marvels comics quality been going down since Civil War and Annihilation ended anyway. It sucks, but it doesn't bother me all that much, except that now the Avengers movie is definitely going to suck rather than probably.

(Edit: this is my opinion, I do not in any way attempt to imply that this is fact.)

Re: Disney just bought Marvel.

disney are well known for being slave drivers, pushing out quantity over quality. The example of pixar being mauled is a good one because most of the original members of pixar have quit.

You check Spill.com!? Cool, someone else who knows about that website!

Anyway, this is a VERY VERY bad business move. If marvel wants to release any superhero movies, Disney should NOT interfere at all, ever.

It's going to make Marvel's shareholders a whole bunch of money, given that Disney is paying $4 billion for the company. You can call it a lot of things but not a bad business move. Disney's offer is well more than what the company is immediately worth and they're paying that much because they expect that it will pay off in the long term with more movies and video games and television and comic books.

How many X-Men spinoff books and movies are there now? :p

Well, not a business move, but a bad move for us fans. I mean, I don't want to see fucking Marvel/Disney movies! I want to see fucking Spiderman and Avengers and stuff like that!

Sadly, if the WB/DC thing is any early indicator, you'll just either see a lot of terrible Marvel movies (Catwoman, the old Batman movies) or none (the development hell that eventually spit out Superman Returns).

Disney/Marvel X-over: The Little Merspider (Mix spiderman and the little mermaid)!

Re: Disney just bought Marvel.

I was going to be afraid for the Deadpool movie, but the rights for that one lie with Fox. . .

So I'm still afraid, but for a different reason.
