In general, I hope we stop harassing devs-- even if it's just on this site. Even if their content isn't ideal, it's better to be uplifting than just toxic to them. The last thing a good ecchi game needs is a dev who can't take it anymore. I usually find them very friendly and talkative in DM's, even western ones like PoP or Enlit3d.
And I hope we stop devaluing words like harassment because some lily livered content creators can't take a few people being frustrated with defect/non working (for them) products or broken promises. The guy acts like he was swatted, doxed and personally hunted by an angry mob, when in fact he just got angry feedback from a few frustrated people who could not get the game to work or were disappointed with the finished product, many of which were likely not even paying for the game to begin with, so their input is worthless anyway. Is the tone in which such negative feedback is usually delivered lacking respect and common courtesy? Yeah, especially since it is on the internet where people tend to take their gloves off all the time anyway, but that is just how this kind of feedback is often delivered since the user is frustrated, and the newest game did have quite a few problems, still has to this day, and the less is said about Yumes official translation failure the better.
Looking at the official feedback from DLSite shows me thousands of positive ratings for his newest game, less than 50 negative ones, placing the game at 5 stars, the highest rating the site can give, so the official customers overwhelmingly love the game, or at least gave it 5 stars anyway due to it being higher quality than most games of the genre. This would normally tell me that the dev is cherry picking a few negative ratings or feedback and letting it affect him far more than all the positive feedback, something that is not uncommon with developers or artists because they take positive feedback for granted. Since I do know the ways of the internet though, there is of course the very real possibility that the negative feedback was much higher in number than official sources like DLSite suggest, which would be possible if people downloaded the game online for free (which many did, as it was available from day 1, even faster than usual), and then have the nerve to contact the dev demanding support and bitch to him about a game they haven't paid for. I don't have to explain what normal developers would do with that kind of user feedback, but for some reason the guy took criticism that came mostly from leeches via crap sites like Discord and took it to heart, even tried to help them run the game for some reason, which is a lose lose situation.
My recommendation for the dev would be to ask someone to manage that kind of shit for him next time, as he either is terribly ignorant on the subject or simply too weak mentally to handle this side of the userbase or ignore the ones who do not pay, not to mention his lack of English skills not being helpful either. Hell, even just dealing exclusively with people who can verify a purchase would already sort out most of the salty feedback and solve his problems, allowing him to keep the English users while not having to deal with most of the leeches if he simply refuses support for people who clearly have not even bought the game. Instead of doing that though, he preferred to cut ties with the western audience entirely, something I think is a really damn stupid decision as it will lead to paying customers like me not paying for the next game for obvious reasons.
Now I already explained why I do not really consider this to be a loss for us in the grand scheme of things, as the machine or partial translation is not all that valuable, and the userbase is more helpful when it comes to support with the game anyway, so if it leads to him focussing his efforts on making a better game instead I'd even consider it a win for us if a translator picks his game up at some point like with Parade Buster or Yume, but I have no doubt that the guy is screwing himself over long term for no other reason than him not knowing how to properly handle himself online. Let's just say that if even a gaijin hating twat like the Robf developer goes out of his way to get a leg into the western market then it must be highly profitable
Adult games as a whole were grouped together as a group of insane people with extreme sexual deviancy because of the game Rapelay.
If we are honest about this little genre we are playing, you can't really be too mad about that, as the number of games having either one of rape, bestiality, clearly underage girls/boys, gore, vore or incest is overwhelmingly high, and none of those things are okay for most people to have in games. We are sexual deviants by normal peoples standards for liking or just accepting games with even one of those things included, and Rapelay was pretty mild compared to most games of its kind both in content and especially because the protagonist has an unavoidable bad ending(death), when in most such games the protagonist gets away or even rewarded for such behavior instead of it leading to disaster for him.
