I'm curious, as I highly value animation in my adult games but quite a few of them don't have it. It makes sense as animation is costly and generally hard to make happen.
I want to know how you guys view it in the grand scheme of things though.

Honestly I can take it or leave it, but games with good animation are certainly better than those with just still CGs. OFC this often means there's less content but eh.

Not necessary. More of a bonus really. I consider artwork to be the most important, followed by story, and then game mechanics.

Story comes second?
I'm sorry but that's quite surprising. The only eroge that has had a story that jived with me was MGQ. Everything else has been kind of haphazard stories that try and get the sex to happen in non-consequential ways.

What games are you thinking of when you wrote that? I'm honestly speaking completely out of curiosity here.

Same for me. Artwork & Mechanics are tied for me, though I think it's because I'm somewhat selective in terms of types of content I seek out. I'm really only looking for games with CR, so I need a certain level of quality in the Artwork as well as game design to make it worthwhile to play.

Story is a nice bonus, as is Animation. I'll take it if it's there, but I'd usually prefer to have a larger breadth and depth of content.

Ehh, story basically equals genre for me. I'm a big fan of NTR and corrruption. Really disliked the new acerola game that everyone was hyped about, nearly solely because of story.

Hahaha, that's something I will never understand. Well different strokes for different folks. Thanks for sharing.

TBH i like all of them but i find it very nice when the CGs are rapidly switching to another so it makes some sort of animation

I'm confused. A game usually has animation or doesn't. The poll just asks how important having animations is to you.

Do you prefer the rapidly switching CGs over actual animation interpolating between keyframes?

There are old VNs that have like thousands of CG's in sequence each with a little change to it so it could somewhat resemble animation...

There's a bunch of CG dumps on e-hentai or sad panda where you can see them.

So since we're ranking things, I'd put mechanics first. I don't have time in my life to grind for porn, deal with crappy controls, or just spend hours playing something that isn't fun for a small amount of fap time afterwards.

You specifically mentioned grinding for porn.
Does that mean you don't like RPG eroge?
Does good mechanics mean things like Action Platforms?

Not attacking you, just genuinely curious.

Not a huge fan of RPGMaker games in general, there are however a number that have a good balance between porn and gameplay. I managed to make it through both of the original queen opalas without feeling like I'd wasted alot of time, for instance.

And generally yeah, action platformers (better yet action RPGS) are more my thing. That said there are plenty of ways that those can turn into monotonous piles of frustration too, pixel perfect jumps for instance.

Big fan of the animation but as long as the art is good and the gameplay is at least decent, I'm cool with it. Even animation that has a low frame number is better than nothing, like SuccuPri. Game features animation but if you pay close enough attention you find that it's really just 3-5 frames per.

Personally like it as long as it's not looped same thing over and over.
But as I know reality of doing animation (especially for 2D stuff), I would rather have more scenes and content instead of one animation that will play for minute and took weeks to be completed.
Problem is - most people don't realize that.

I strongly prefer animations. But if it doesn't have it, but it does have good art, it should be fine!

It obviously depends on how appealing the dev arts is, look for example to Lilith and Bishop games, most consumers outside of japan love it without actually playing the game, because it's a visual novel with little to fucked up plot/argument, but the art is insanely good, and they're making a lot of money by just making a release of some of their games with just a little animation of those CGs (that one that looks more like a distortion of the CGs than an actual animation). On the opposite side you have games that are animated, but the "style" is kind of ugly.

I really could take it or leave it. I think people who want it are asking for extra work to be put into a niche game for a niche audience while those who don't care are more center to the discussion than of any mind to want or disapprove. That said, I do find it's only really appealing in pixel art games or similar sub-genres, like Metroidvania's. Anything like RPGmaker games or even VN's don't really need it because we have the advantage of text descriptors and the game either being fun or absolute shit to keep us engaged. I'm probably in a minority here, given the state of your poll, though. I do hope western devs don't seen your poll as a foregone conclusion of what the people want, though, and over-saturate the market with it.

We're still pining the fjords with slavemakers and breeder games, for christ sakes!

if you're talking about RPGmaker and VN then animation is not important.

If you're talking about sprite based action/platformer game then animation is important
