The game was originally supposed to be heavily survival focused, which is why things like dooming yourself can just happen during a run. His vision shifted a number of times during development so issues like this were inevitable. Regardless, it's turned out pretty well considering.
Ya know, looking back over this, and the related ...uhh, 'mildly heated' conversation i was a part of earlier on in this thread, this sounds like why that happened.
A decision change during development, changed from being a survival game/escape (consumables for camps, low stam regen cap at the time, tough enemies, very easy to completely ruin a 'run') maybe even rogue-lite-ish, changed into more of a zelda-like action game (all the skills and combos, fast movement, etc) that wouldn't have any of those things. I never did come back and try out the game again, but i've kept watching the thread anyway, because it was right on the edge of enjoyable for me, and the game could change enough through development... ...considering so many games change for the worse, keeping tabs isn't too much to keep hope, lol.
I intend to give it another shot, as the game has come a long way, dunno when though.
