Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

"I get what you're saying hon, but don't worry, we'll manage," Sheena said, nodding confidently that she and Freya could manage, or would at least be able to force themselves to manage, anyway.

"You alright Kylie?" Freya asked, when Kylie shivered and touched her scar, at the sound of the gun.

Once they set off, Sheena and Freya stayed as close to Kylie as they could, following her path, with Sheena in back, and Freya in the middle. It took them quite some time, but they did manage to sneak their way ever closer, until they were only a couple of miles from the cave entrance, with the trees and foliage starting to slim down more and more, with the cave entrance being in a clearing, as it was mostly rock around it. "Well, probably won't be able to see much until we get closer. What do you wanna do?" Sheena asked, from the larger tree they were huddled in.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Sheena, get us some wire out of our stuff, Freya, help her make us a blind, box us in so we're even harder to pick out. We'll base here for now in a blind and watch, and wait. I want to know for sure who goes in and out of that place before I make a decision. Kylie said, finishing the assembly of the rifle and carefully making sure everything was in it's proper place, before helping build them a blind to rest in, a leafed dome of stretched and bound branches.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

"Got it, should be able to manage without giving us away," Freya said, quietly moving to gather brush, leaves, sticks, and other things to use to make them a good cover.

Sheena got the rope and whatnot out to use to do this, while Freya began bringing stuff up for them to use. It took them the better part of an hour, but they managed to make themselves a rather well camouflaged area, one that would definitely keep them from being seen easily. While they did that, Kylie kept a watch on the cave entrance, and saw nothing really come in or out of it, but she could swear that she saw what had to be light coming from deeper within. About 10 minutes after their camouflaged hideaway was finished, Kylie saw a pair of minotaurs come out, to take a piss, before they headed back in, and after another half an hour another pair of minotaurs came up, hauling what had to be meat up for them to cook, likely a deer, from the amount they were carrying.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Less scouts, more a sentry station... That would explain the traps... Kylie muttered as she watched with the scope. Was this how she had been shot? Endless patient waiting? It must have been, thinking about it made her chest hurt.

She kept watch however for a good while longer, making sure the number of enemies in the cave was 4. If it's just the 4, we're outnumbered by a man. erm, Cow. And we can't very well let any of them get away. If they know we're coming we'll blow any chance of a solid ambush and wind up skirmishing for miles. she said quietly, huffing in a slightly annoyed manner.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

"Mhm, most likely. I'd bet there's probably no more than half a dozen, maybe eight at most. Hmm, we could smoke them out, once we're sure they're all in there. Smoke would blind them, and we could stay down low, and fire arrows, and your gun, up at them," Sheena muttered softly, looking ready to move whenever Kylie was.

"Kylie... do you want me to shoot it? Giselle told me and some of the others what all happened, and... well... if you're not comfortable doing it, I can. So long as it's braced, it shouldn't be any different than a crossbow, really," Freya asked softly, looking worried about Kylie, whom she apparently could tell wasn't overly comfortable with the gun.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Think of it more like a Cannon instead of a crossbow... Kylie muttered, still thinking out the cave problem.

You know your leader is an idiot when she's a master poisoner, and leaves all her poisons at home before running off to start and finish a war... she continued as she tilted her head to the left, and then the right. Wait for nightfall. I'll kick up a real storm, not that weak shower from last night. We can use the sound of the storm to drown out our approach, and get closer to have a proper look. Smoking them out only works if the cave only has one entrance. It might very well have several. It IS a mountain. She finally decided after many long minutes of silence, bringing up the gun and laying it down. Leaning back to close her eyes and think and rest.

Most importantly we are not assaulting a defended position like that when we're outnumbered. We can wait and catch one out. You saw they make hunting trips. Patience girls. No reason to charge in. They don't know we're here, we have all the time in the world.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

"Ah, I see. And hey... did you really think we ran off and left everything behind? Here," Freya said, smirking as she set a little satchel down next to Kylie, though it didn't have a whole lot in it it seemed, but enough to make a couple of her paralytic potions with which to take care of a couple of their foes. "Not much, I know, because you wanted to leave quickly, so I just grabbed a couple of handfuls before we came out," she added with a shrug.

"Aye, that's true, I didn't think there might be another entrance or exit in there," Sheena said, nodding a little as she got an arrow out to have one ready for her shortbow.

"I know, so we wait them out, follow their next hunting trip, or bathroom break, and ambush them. Right?" Freya said, propping herself up against the back of their little treetop hut she and Sheena had fashioned.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Yup, we take our time and catch one of them out, kill the other, they're moving in pairs. Make it look like an animal did it. Kylie said, nodding from her place but otherwise not moving as she continued to think. Grinning suddenly, baring all her teeth and rippling with yellows and light blues across her face. While we're waiting though, we move their traps around... Pitfalls we can't change... but snares are easy she said, licking her teeth maliciously. Apparently even time hadn't dulled her unfriendly opinion of the northern tribes.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

"Aye, would definitely be able to make it look like a panther or two got at them, or maybe a bear perhaps. I mean we are in a more temperate forested area now, plus we're up a mountain, so bears wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility," Sheena said with a nod.

"M'kay, soon as you give the word, I'll start changing around some of their snares and stuff then. And we could even make small pitfalls of our own, with a couple of wood spikes or something, might not hurt them much, but could trip them up and hinder their ability to run back and stuff," Freya suggested, waiting for Kylie to say yes or no about her doing that.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

No time to dig one deep enough to really do the job... But the snares? Easy. Get started. Leave a hex on trees so I know where you went, I'll keep watch and find you if they're headed out. Stick together. Kylie said, leaving them to muddle with the snares while she kept a higher eye on things, staying in the blind and watching quietly.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

"Well, maybe not a pitfall, but a tripfall or something then, the ground's pretty wet from last night's storm, so it wouldn't be that tough to make one a bit less than a foot deep. We'll work on the snares though," Freya replied with a nod, before her and Sheena hopped off to get to it.

After about an hour, Sheena crept back to give Kylie an update, telling her that they'd gotten all of the snares within 5 minutes walking distance in every direction, and cleared many of the ones leading up to the cave entrance. She'd made a makeshift map of sorts and showed it to Kylie, marking the cave entrance, their blind in the tree, with small red X's marking each snare they had found, and small black X's to show where they'd switched some around. All told they had found a total of 43 snares, with them moving all of them around in some small fashion.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

She watched, and waited, before Sheena came back to report on the shifted traps. Good job, nothing's moved in or out. So it has to be a fairly large cave or tunnel in there. Where's Freya?

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

"Or they're asleep or something, maybe. And she's just down there, behind us, adding the last of our own snares. Also here, take a look at this one now," Sheena whispered back, pulling another slightly larger and more detailed map up, which showed there were a dozen extra snares added with green X's, scattered about randomly, it seemed, and there were a score of black circles. "First one was just for me to use to keep track of everything, this one's for us to use through the night and stuff. All told, there's fifty two snares or other traps. And the black circles are the pitfalls we found, but there could be more, but we've not spotted them yet," she went on to say, pointing them all out.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Cmon Freya, they're scouts, out in this jungle, even WE take rests in shifts. They most certainly will. Sentry stations always do, if they all sleep at the same time, they're not fulfilling their purpose. The Minotaurs in the village, where they felt safest were thorough. They will be even more so now. Kylie chided her gently, before reaching out to ruffle her hair and looking over the new map.

Truth be told, I don't want to go into that cave without knowing what's in it. We stay and wait, we watch the traps, we take our opportunity when it comes to us, not before. But judging from this you both did a good job. Shouldn't take too long before one of them missteps.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

"Well, they did haul that deer carcass in there not long ago, so it's possible, even if improbable, that they might all be drunk," Sheena replied, looking abashed at Kylie's words, but hopeful. "Aye, surely one will make a mistake sooner or later. Also, Freya ought to be back in a few more minutes," she added.

After a good twenty more minutes, Freya returned, climbing the tree almost silently enough to spook Kylie... almost. Seeing Freya, Kylie noticed her hands were covered in dirt, as were her knees, making it obvious that she had been on her hands and knees while messing around with the traps and whatnot. "Well, got everything set up. I'd wager one of them is gonna hit one next time they go out," Freya whispered as she got herself some water to wash her hands off.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Well, nothing to do then but wait and be patient. We make an aggressive mood, and they'll likely disappear, or come out in force. Kylie said, leaning back and resting.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Sheena and Freya nodded at Kylie, and got prepared. It didn't take too long, about an hour or so, for Kylie and the others to see a couple of the minotaurs to come out and take their turns to piss, but after that, they both headed off into the woods, likely on patrol. "So... want us to tail them, while you watch the entrance? Or you wanna follow them while both, or one of us watches?" Sheena whispered to Kylie, as the sun started sinking in the distance, the light growing dimmer and dimmer by the minute.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Kylie mulled the options around as she watched the two head off to patrol, or hunt. She wasn't going to use the rifle yet. It was too loud. And she started breaking it down into it's pieces again. She had mainly assembled it to comfortably use the scope as a spyglass.

Fitting it away, while counting off in her head how many minutes had passed, coupled with how fast she had seen the two minotaurs move, gave her some idea of where they would be by now in a rough radius from the cave entrance. Checking the traps, she looked at what snares and pitfalls they'd be closest too in a line.

We all split up. We're tracking two targets somewhere in this area. she said, sweeping a finger over the map. Freya, I want you up in the treetops along this line. It runs closest to the pitfalls. Sheena, you'll head in the opposite direction. I can move the fastest so I'll fall back a little further, and keep tabs on you both. If you find them, leave sign and wait for me to find you. Don't call out, no birdcall, no whistles. Just watch and wait. Once we're in a good spot we can make a move. Don't break from the plan, even if it means giving up a good opportunity. I watched one of these things go toe to toe with Miu, one on one you 2 aren't ready yet, not in a straight up fight. So follow my orders and wait. Let's go. she said, heading straight away from the cave outside Freya and Sheena's radial patrol lines, and making a wider arc, looking to hopefully find the pair of Minotaurs in the center of their 2 patrols.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Checking the little map, she saw that the pair would be going along a path that would lead them towards about a dozen different traps/snares, give or take. Sheena and Freya nodded to her, and both moved off in their own directions, while Kylie did hers. After a few minutes, of moving back and forth, searching for the duo, Kylie didn't spot them, but on her way around she spotted a sign carved into a tree by Freya, that was only an arrow, pointing eastward. Moving along though, she came to a point and spotted Freya moving silently among the treetops, following the pair to keep an eye on them, and their patrol route, just as Kylie had told her to do.

Re: Kylie (Courage Wolf)

Running her patrol, she was glad to find sign from Freya and without too much time wasted. The pair was right in the center of her patrol and she caught up to Freya without any trouble at all, shifting silently up in the trees as she moved. Tapping Freya gently on the shoulder, Kylie looked around for any traps she had moved and motioned for Freya to point them out to her if she knew where they were.

Alrighty. Good job, think you can feather one of them with a few good arrows if I get their attention? I can deal with the other one in a less.... Pleasant manner, then a paralytic. Kylie whispered, flexing her fingers in her gauntlets and then reaching for her sickle, looping the chain around her arm to rest between her palm and her outer bicep in a loop.
