ACT [Kyrieru] Kurovadis (RE093841)

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

I don't get the point then... why even bother?

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

Not exactly hacking, since the game itself is not modified.
External tools are used to manipulate things like player input and framerate, hence the term "Tool-Assisted"

Generally:
- The game is played either in slow motion or by advancing it one frame at a time.
- Savestates are used excessively to eliminate mistakes. In this case the author says that he loaded 31319 times.

Any input that the game requests (keyboard, timers, etc.) is recorded to a log. When the game has been completed, the recorded input log can be played back in real-time, resulting in the linked video.

The goal isn't to demonstrate skill or anything like that, but to see just how far the game can be pushed.

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

Because it's very interesting to watch what would theoretically be possible if one had perfect reactions and never was even a single pixel off.

I'm often watching a TAS of old NES or SNES games before going to sleep because I find it totally fascinating. The one on Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow ( ) is one of my favorites

As others have said TASing is something that exists completely apart of speedruns and is not designed to compete with them through cheats or anything.

The rules are simple: no hacking or cheating, but you can do anything the game allows you to do via the normal controls. Typically, those people study a game's glitches for weeks, then spend months advancing through the game by single frames and making extreme use of save states (they often post the save state count, usually anywhere from 50,000 to 250,000 saves).

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

I think it's cool that Kurovadis is popular enough for someone to make a TAS of it. The succubus boss bug was pretty funny too: apparently if you struggle out of her grasp fast enough, she takes a huge amount of damage for no reason and just dies.

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

I suppose I do see the point and appeal of a TAS run now... my initial distaste came from my lack of understanding it to be one, and how they are in fact separate from speed runs (i've watched tons of speed runs but somehow never heard of the term.

Would anyone here be interested in a map if I released one? I used a Google spreadsheet in order to map locations (they match up to a set of position numbers in the save file).

I would of course only release it with Kyrieru's blessing as it IS how I got around the locked save rooms in the demo (I have as of now purchased the game... the only H content I have ever paid for in my life!).

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

Well... here is the map without any revealing details. It is also not necessarily 100% correct in all departments but it's most of the way there.

I have not added the coordinate system as I don't want to make it easier to cheat the system.

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

I will of course, add, edit or entirely remove that map upon Kyrieru's request

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

I bought the game and loved it, Took me back to the old nes days. Is there by chance any new content for it?

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

I bought this when it was KuroV7.exe, but I have a new computer, and when I downloaded the demo from Kyrieru's page and put the unlock.txt from my old computer into the folder on my new computer I still see the demo walls. What should I do?

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

can someone help me i buy the game but for some reason it keeps freezeing when i grab the first power up. i don't understand what i am doing wrong:confused:

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

TAS, or Tool-Assisted Speedrun involves using a program to play the game for you, frame by frame, to do tricks impossible for the human being (such as constant frame-perfect inputs) for entertainment and speed. There are different categories for speedruns in this manner and some runs will exploit glitches along the way, and some will merely just use frame-perfect gameplay. Either way, a TAS usually looks like someone broke the game horribly ^_^

That Kurovadis run was simply amazing.

Did you get the game through DLsite?

If so, there was a bug that was fixed in the version on my site, but not on DLsite's. If that's the case, let me know and I'll send you a PM.

Haah, I thought Kurovadis was poorly coded that it has an insane amount of glitches.

Even if I smash the shoot button, I can't shoot like that.
How did he run that fast btw, that' s a glitch right? Because I bet even frame by frame wont enable you to run that fast.

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

The third attack in the punch combo moves forwards faster than running. If you cancel it into a jump then you retain the momentum. From there it's just a case of staying in the air or otherwise glitching the game into thinking you are in the air to keep going at that speed.

It's quite easy to do with a bit of practice, but hard to keep it going for long stretches without needing to re-trigger it with another punch combo.

Another funny glitch is to enter/exit the menu immediately after holding the jump button. For some reason this interferes with gravity, so if you use the menu enough times you can jump the entire height of the screen. You won't see it used in the TAS to that extent because wall jumping is faster, but there's at least one occasion where the menu needed to be used anyway so it was timed during a jump for a little bit of extra height.
