Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

Well I think it's more about respect. If you go into a store and steal an item they probably won't realize there missing something (depending on what it is). However, if you just walk up and blatantly steal right in-front of their face you might as well just bitch smack em as too.
True but unfortunately, this is the Internet and People will blatantly say they stole. Heck, some would even hold it as high praise.

But then there are the people who come up with this whole angle of the Priest, Never do this Never do that, yet are part of it anyway. They are the only who are the exact person to share the game on one thread, and condone people and negatively rep people for the same thing on others, usually because someone is watching (Dev, Publisher, etc)

This. If an h game dev takes the time to come to our little homey rat hole and introduce their game/talk with the people here respectfully, you should at least have the courtesy/respect to not discuss pirating their game in their threads. Especially when he posts just above your message >.> When you steal in front of the owner, it becomes personal. It's not right either way, I don't think anybody is saying that.
I was not asking for the game for free. I bought it and was going to preorder the next one (Apparently, that is closed). I am asking for the modded version, the one where you run faster jump higher, etc. that I had seen linked to earlier.

Re: Kurovadis (OUT NOW! BUY IT)

The issue is, and always has been, about two things, in this order: Preserving the forums, and respecting the wishes of the creator.

First and foremost, we do not condone (nor condemn) piracy. If links to a game are shared publicly on the forums, we enforce a reactionary regulation; that is, we will only take down a link if it is an immediate threat to the forum. That has always been the policy. What developed from this enforcement was a public desire to respect the wishes of the creator. And so, if they ask us to keep the link sharing off the forums, we will oblige. But that obligation comes from that necessity of keeping the forums up first, and showing respect to the author second.

I don't mean any disrespect to Kyrieu or any other developer who frequents these boards, but we will always put the forums ahead. And I'm sure the majority of people realize that too. It just so happens that our goals and the wishes of the creator coincide, and so it only seems like we do this sort of thing primarily because we want to respect their wishes.

Don't get me wrong. I personally believe it's good to show courtesy towards a developer and I'm glad to be able to help them with that sort of thing. But the main point is that links are taken down so we aren't taken down. All of these discussions about the hypocrisy of users pirating and then being anti-piracy are completely irrelevant because that was never the issue. Nobody here is so blindly hypocritical that they would do both at the same time and still feel morally superior. They all know the underlying reason why they take that sort of stance. They all know the existence of these links are questionable. But they're treading carefully because they don't want this place taken down, not because they have some fucked-up sense of self-worth.

And if for some God forsaken reason I'm wrong and people do hold this sort of opinion, then it's still just their character that is wrong, not their intentions. I'd rather have a hundred self-deluded pirates who will try to keep the forum out of trouble, than a hundred clear-conscience pirates who will share links no matter the cost.

More importantly, this discussion is over. Go back to talking about the mod or something related to the game.

modded version
I'm not sure which you're asking for, now; there's a version modified by Kyrieru discussed (ctrl/cmd+f; mod) that addresses a video card issue, but that link has suffered a terrible fate - I don't know what was linked there nor do I have a copy.

I don't know about a play-modified version of the game, though it would be pretty trivial to make. IIRC this was made with GM8 so it can be easily decompiled for changes like this. It would be a lot easier to use Cheat Engine, though.

Also, just to clarify, the normal version of the game has the same mod that I linked to there, at this point.

I had seen a video, of a "modded" version of Kurovadis where you move faster and farther and I was curious about it. I saw something somewhere in the middle of the thread with a link to this version, but the link was taken down, so before checking the end of the thread ( and thus knowing I was responding right after Kyrieru) I asked for it.

I do not know if it is a thing that exist or just an cheat engine hack. probably is the latter, though.

I'm assuming what you saw was the TAS (Tool assisted speedrun). Which isn't a mod, but rather someone who was using software to play the game frame by frame, which allows them to exploit the controls to do things that they wouldn't be able to do normally. (Allowing them to beat the game as quickly as possible.)

Jumping in here just to say that Kurovadis is probably one of, if not the best 'porn' games i've ever played and is entirely the reason I am willing to fork over any money at all for this kind of thing. I pre-ordered his new game as well.

And I actually hate jump puzzles.

I love the guy and his blog, but if you've checked it once in the last year, you're basically caught up. (sorry man)

I actually went ahead and bought the next game when he had his pre-order for it, and I'm disappointed with the lack of updates. I would be extremely frustrated if he wasn't such an active part of the ULMF forums, so I doubt he'd be the type to pull a H-Pipebomb.

But I guess that was what I signed up for in giving my money early.

To be fair, he did warn you that it was a preorder with nothing to benefit from it except good feelings.

Caveat emptor.

I know the chances of this happening are very little. But I wish/hope this gets remade some day with bigger sprites. Ya know so you can really see whats happening in full glory.

Well, one of the reasons is because there just isn't much to talk about. It would basically amount to "This week, I did a bunch of programming, some of it was really frustrating, and I made more content. I wish I was going faster."

And when it comes to updates in the form of the demo, even though a lot of the new content is relevant to the demo (the beginning of the game), I don't want it to be one of those situations were content keeps getting added, and people keep replaying the demo to see it. It messes up the difficulty curve and the player's perception of the game a bit, if they replay the beginning so many times. I'd much rather that players go into the final game or demo, and get completely caught off guard by what I've added.

That aside, I feel like I may literally just refund everyone who pre-ordered Noaika, once it's released (they would still get it, obviously). The whole situation just makes me feel really awful. On one hand, I feel like I can finally put the time and effort into a game without being too concerned about money for a while, and yet there's the constant feeling that I'm not going fast enough, like I'm betraying everyone who bought it.

Add to that, there's always some stuff I do that ends up not working out, or that I had to go back and fix, but it still takes up time. So the notion that 100% of the time went towards the adding content that's in the game creates even more pressure.

The day I release Noaika will be the biggest relief of my life -___-

I plan on making another Kurovadis. However it wouldn't really be a remake, so much as it would be like a reboot (despite there only being one game). It would basically be the beginning again, but with far more work going into building the setting, and the implied story. (Even though there still wouldn't be dialogue)

Kyrieru,
I understand that nobody likes to play the waiting game, but one thing I'd like to tell you is this: don't stress it (no slacking either though!), do what you do best, take your time and NEVER compromise on quality. The end result will be worth it.

The end result will be worth it, but that doesn't make the time between now and then an less stressful -___-

For me and for everyone who pre-ordered...

We'd still enjoy more little doodles or something now and then just to know you're still alive. Most of us enjoy your art and music just as much as the gameplay. Gotta throw the fans a bone here and there.
