The assassin cursed under her breath as she reloaded her weapon, even as the banging continued in the floor beneath her. Lexwyn had hidden here in Artmirst for 2 years now, though she'd long ago stopped counting the days. Even without the portal spewing demons, the flow of scavengers had given the remaining monsters plenty of breeding stock to keep their numbers dangerous. The last two years had been one desperate battle for survival after another. The town, having once been a thriving center of production, had given her plenty of ammunition and parts to scavenge to keep her weapon working.

Unfortunately, her scavenging for supplies had been what had gotten her into this mess. Lexwyn was currently locked in the foremans office of one of the abandoned weapons factories. what she hadn't known when she'd entered was that the factory floor had been home to an ogre, and the creature was even now pounding fruitlessly at one of the support struts for the raised platform housing hr hiding place. So far, it was holding, but for how long.....

What was worse, when she'd tried poking her head up to try and shoot at it, it had hurled a crate that probably weighed more than she did at her. She'd dodged it, narrowly, but knew she'd have to be more cautious if she didn't want to end up squashed. The massive demon was one of the most dangerous she'd encountered, and with no other exits from the office besides the door she'd entered from, she would have to find some way to cripple, kill, or distract the ogre if she wanted out of here.

Re: Lexwyn (OAMP)

(Heh, action right away)

Deciding she had at least a few seconds to spare, Lexwyn would quickly look around the room for anything that might be of use. She had a basic plan, but it would rely on finding a way to open the door while not standing next to it, so what would come in real handy would be some rope or string, then something for leverage like a pry-bar. Still, she'd settle for anything at this stage.

While frantically searching, Lexwyn would also see if she could slide a few objects, such as the desk, between her and the door, like a partial barricade she could shoot over. It wouldn't buy her more then a second or two when the ogre got in, but hopefully it would make a difference.

She'd stow anything she found that was of use, but not an aid at this moment, and carefully and quietly rig the door the break open if she found the needed tools. Even if she wasn't able to do so, she'd get behind her makeshift barricade and either open the door, rifle already aimed at where the monster's head should be, or fire a shot through the door in the general area of the thing's face if she couldn't open it from a safe distance.

The office had nothing of practical value, being filled with cabinets containing nothing but old rotting paper. No rope, and no tools besides an old pen. The desk was already against the same wall as the door, so it could be easily moved, but the ogre was far to bulky to get up the stairs anyway, so she didn't have to worry about it coming up the stairs. As she searched, Lexwyn could hear the loud banging of the ogres makeshift club against one of the support struts of the office she was hiding in. After a few moment,s she heard a crack, and the entire structure lurched to one side. that certainly wasn't good.

Her search having proved fruitless, Lexwyn popped her head for just long enough to find the ogre, which was below the platform now, before ducking down. It seemingly hadn't spotted her, so she took a shot at it with her rifle.

Rolls
Perception: Lexwyn wins.
Attack: Auto-hit.
Damage: 3 + 5 + 2 + 10 + 20 - 12 = 28 x 2 = 56 damage.
Attack: Hit.
Damage: 3 + 25 - 4 = 24 damage. Armor at 22/30 TP.

Her shot strikes the creature directly in the head. With a roar of pain, it turns back toward her and hurls its club at Lexwyn. Before she can duck back down into cover, the metal bar slams into her after tearing through the remains of the office windows. She is knocked back onto her ass, the wind knocked out of her and a series of tears in her clothes. That had hurt, but the thing was definitely badly injured now. If she could get another shot or two like that into it, she might just kill it before it brought down her makeshift shelter, or its noise brought in more of its kind.

Re: Lexwyn (OAMP)

Lexwyn mentally cursed, but was kind of impressed with the ogre, not yet feeling in enough danger to really be worried. Cautiously, she'd get back on her feet and peek out, checking to see if the monster would calm down while readying her weapon once more. Hopefully the thing would hold still, perhaps when picking up the club again, and then she could get in a good shot at its head again. She highly doubted she'd have to wait long, but if it looked like she wouldn't get her way, she'd try and aim for another vital point, such as a hand, or maybe even the groin.

Rolls
Perception: Enemy wins.
Attack: Hit.
Damage: None. No bullets.
Attack: Miss.

Lexwyn pops up, but the ogre knows where she is now, so as soon as her gun comes up, it raises its arms, shielding its vitals before she can squeeze the trigger. Which proves to not matter much, as she'd neglected to reload her gun, which only held a single shot. After a moment of waiting, it peeks its head up, and upon seeing her just standing there awkwardly, it picks up a rotting crate and chucks it at her. Luckily, she ducked down to avoid it in time, but the noise of it could probably be heard for miles around.

(Arguably, readying your weapon might include a reload. That said, I'm not taking anything that doesn't directly say that you reload the gun.)

Re: Lexwyn (OAMP)

(Yeah, I assumed it had, oh well)

A small curse escaped Lexwyn's lips as she ducked back for momentary saftey. Quickly placing another round in the rifle, she'd take a second to see if the monster looked to be getting tired at all. Not like it'd matter if she spilled its brains across the floor, but it'd be nice if the thing stopped moving, flailing, and fighting back quite as forcefully.

Taking a deep breath once the rifle was loaded and ready, Lexwyn once again swung into position, not letting the minor setback ruffle her. Aiming was important, rushing this would just cause her to miss and give the ogre more time to bring down the office, while making her more tired in the process.

Perception: Lexwyn wins.

Damage: 3 + 5 + 5 + 10 + 20 - 12 = 31 x 2 = 62 damage.

As Lexwyn reloaded her weapon, she heard and felt the ogre go back to work on the support struts of her makeshift shelter. As she closed the breach, the building lurched, almost knocking her on her ass. When the place finally stopped moving, it was tilted at a 20 degree angle. Hurrying, Lexwyn stood, found the ogre, aimed, and fired at the back of its head, as it was now moving toward the stacks of boxes that were in the center of the factory. The creature flinched as the bullet hit, and then stumbled onto its knees. It stayed that way for a moment before collapsing fully onto the floor, silent and motionless.

Re: Lexwyn (OAMP)

(I'm assumeing here she has at least some knowledge of what's in this factory and a little bit of the layout too)

Lexwyn took a deep breath, letting the rush from fighting fade, but realizing she'd probably better move incase the place came crashing down anyway. She'd reload as she went to the door and back down to the factory floor, just in case. Lexwyn would make sure to check every corner for more hiding enemies. She wanted to take a break to think after the encounter and it wouldn't do for something to surprise her.

Once satisfied she could take a breather, Lexwyn would sit on a nearby crate and go over what she'd accomplished that day so far. Truth be told, after facing the ogre, part of her just wanted to call it a day already and go to her makeshift home. The other part of her, the one that was still a bit louder, wanted to at least come away with something to show for this intrusion. Sighing, Lexwyn hopped back off and carefully slinked down a passage she'd yet to explore, hoping to find something worthwhile.

After a few minutes of rest, and pulling her torn armor back together around the shoulder, Lexwyn got up to leave. This particular factory had manufactured tools for measuring liquids, which weren't at all valuable to her. She'd only come in here to try and hide form the ogre, which hadn't been particularly successful given that she'd had to fight it anyway. Her reloaded gun in her hands, she could exit either the way she came in, which was a large hole in the East wall, a door which exited out to the West, or go through the loading docks which were to the south. The factory itself was in an industrial block, so the buildings were all large and square with wide streets in between them.

Re: Lexwyn (OAMP)

Being a little more cautious now, Lexwyn figured she'd better exit a different way, just in case someone or something had seen her enter. She eventually decided to go through the loading docks, it wasn't a straight shot through the building that way either, further confusing observers. The boxes left over would probably make for a good ambush spot on her, but she'd just be extra careful. The assassin would stick to the shadows and walls and hope to look into the center before something there saw her first. Upon getting to the exit itself, she'd pause and survery the surrounding before breaking from cover.

(The ogre came in right behind her, so anyone looking would have noticed that. Probably a good decision on your part.)

Rolls
Perception (Lexwyn): Success.
Perception (Unknown): ???

Lexwyn made her way to the opposite side of the factory, creeping form shadow to shadow as silently as a mouse. She reached the other side without detecting anything, and seemingly without anyone detecting her. The doors that had kept intruders from walking into the bays were long gone, and she could see the building across from the one that she was currently in. It was one of the warehouses that had collapsed fully, though Lexwyn couldn't guess as to why, given the fact that the town had only been abandoned for two years. Its walls were collapsed in on itself, but its superstructure still jutted into the air, a black steel skeleton clawing its way up into the air. The factory that was to its immediate right offered much better protection, though the factory to the left was a close second, having the advantage of retaining doors on this side even though it was much to short to have a second floor office for her to hide in.

It was as she was preparing to move that she spotted her, perched on the top of the shattered warehouse like some kind of demonic, heavily-armored crow. A Black Knight. Lexwyns heart skipped a beat as she dipped back behind the wall of the factory. Had it seen her? If it had..... She'd barely escaped form the first one, and that only because it had become busy slaughtering an entire company of Fey that she'd run into. that had been a year ago, but Lexwyn still remembered.... How bullets and blades had bounced off its armor like so many pebbles, and how it had glowed dark violet, before moving so fast that her eyes could barely follow, and swinging its sword hard enough to cut a troll, a creature comparable in strength to the ogre she'd just killed, in a single hit. Glancing back outside, the black-armored feminine form stands still atop the skeleton of the building across from her, motionless. Was its helmed head pointed directly at her, or was she only looking into the factory, attempting to ascertain the source of the noise that had resulted form her battle with the ogre?

(You like to roll them high level enemies.)

Re: Lexwyn (OAMP)

(Fate is a cruel mistress :p )

Lexwyn felt her whole body tense. Threats like this even shook a cold, experienced assassin such as herself. Still, her mind was in control enough to reminder her that fast action was the key. If the black night hadn't pounced already that must mean it hadn't seen her on her path to the doors. Being as quiet as possible Lexwyn would attempt to retrace her steps back to the site of the battle, then exit through the doors on the far side from where she entered the factory. Yeah, the more time she spent in here the worse off she'd be, but going forward was clearly out of the question now. Losing a hopelessly onesided battle was not on today's menu, so to speak.

Perception (Lexwyn): Success.
Perception (Enemy): Failure.

Making her way as quietly as a mouse back across the factory floor, keeping to the shadows as much as she reasonably could, Lexwyn stopped in her tracks just in time to duck behind cover as a figure entered the hole in the wall she and the ogre had come in through. Taking a moment to study it as it slowly walked in, Lexwyn realized that it was a woman, though it was difficult to tell due to her clothing. She wore a pair of leather trousers that bloomed slightly around the thighs, while becoming tight around her calves, as well as a loose fitting white shirt that covered her rather modest breasts. She held a rapier in one hand, and was cautiously advancing into the factory when she spotted the dead ogre. As she surveyed the dead demon, she muttered quietly to herself, and as she got closer Lexwyn could begin to make out what she was saying; "That thing is dead.... But where did that girl go? She can't have gotten far, it hasn't been dead for very long, I heard the shots less than five minutes ago...... If she isn't still here, I'll never catch her, at least not before some other monster does, and then all I might find are the left-overs." She began walking toward the stairs leading up to the office where Lexwyn had hidden to fight the ogre, and if she wanted to, Lexwyn could try and sneak out of the factory while her back was turned. However, she was the first human being Lexwyn had encountered in almost a year, and she didn't seem hostile. Quite the opposite in fact, she seemed interested in finding Lexwyn in order to help her, if what her words implied happened to be true. Still, what she'd said was vague enough that Lexwyn wasn't sure what her true intentions were.

Re: Lexwyn (OAMP)

It took a lot of effort not to scowl audibly. Lexwyn was starting to lose her patience. She held perfectly still as the woman looked at the ogre, only moving her eyes as she moved on up the stairs. Internally, the assassin was torn. She almost darted out this entrance, just wanting out of this stupid factory as quick as possible now. Deep down, though, her curiousity had been aroused. She supposed it would not hurt to shadow this woman for awhile. She'd keep sneaking like she had been and stay a good ways back from her, assuming she came back down the stairs and headed elsewhere soon, following up the stairs herself offered no cover. The woman didn't look all that tough, either, so if Lexwyn was discovered she didn't think there'd be too much trouble if hostilities started.

The woman ascended the stairs, searching for her, and Lexwyn waited in the shadows as she quickly searched the office. After only a minute she came back down the stairs, still failing to spot the assassin as she hid in the shadows, and turned toward the hole in the wall, once more muttering to herself; "Where could she have gone? She must have left through another way. Unless she's still hidden in here somewhere...." Then, she turned toward the loading bays, which Lexwyn had checked moments ago, only to see the knight standing outside. If Lexwyn didn't try to stop her, the woman would walk right into the demons view.

Re: Lexwyn (OAMP)

(I tried this manuver in the game I host, let's hope your dice are more friendly then my player's reaction *crosses fingers*)

Lexwyn mentally cursed. She still wasn't entirely sure of this woman's intent, but damn was she curious now. The assassin was fairly confident she could silence her without alerting the monster outside anyway, should the need arise.

Silently but quickly, Lexwyn would use a standard assassin technique, creeping up behind the woman to slip a hand over her mouth and quickly yank the target back against her. Normally this would be followed up with a quick slice across the throat, using a technique that would furher silence someone by severing the vocal cords, but this time Lexwyn wasn't even aiming to injure, let alone kill. Instead, she'd quickly move her mouth to the woman's ear, whispering reassurances of saftey as she quietly drug her back a bit before trusting her to be released and not make a fuss herself. Hopefully Lexwyn could lead her back near the office and have a talk about just what this woman was doing here, but a knot formed inside her as she had to admit, there was probably a decent chance this would just get them both royally screwed.

Lexwyn sneaks up behind the woman, easily catching her off guard just as she'd planned. The woman tenses as her mouth is covered by Lexwyns hand, but she doesn't resist further, allowing the stealthy assassin to back her away into a dark corner. They were beneath the office now, and the woman was still completely silent now, with Lexwyn holding her in place, her knife resting gently against her throat.

Lexwyn wasted no time in explaining why she just did as she did, though she made sure to keep her voice down. "There's a Black Knight outside that exit, not safe at all. Probably not safe here too, we need to find a safe place." After further looking around to make sure they were momentarily secure, Lexwyn made sure the stranger got the idea. "No time to introduce ourselves yet, but do you know of such a place we can rest?"

The woman waited a moment after Lexwyn spoke before she nodded slightly, probably unwilling to move too much with the assassins blade against her throat. She couldn't have spoken even if she wanted to, as Lexwyn also still had her hand over her mouth, but it seemed that she was willing to cooperate. When Lexwyn removed her hand, she whispered; "Nowhere in this town is safe. But, I do know of someplace nearby that might offer temporary sanctuary, if we can reach it."

Re: Lexwyn (OAMP)

"You'd be surprised what the definition of 'safe' can morph into, over the years." Lexwyn gently backed up and let the woman regain control, now that she'd proven less then hostile. "Lead the way, but I hope you're good at keeping low. I haven't seen you before, and that means you're new." She stopped herself, it had been awhile since she'd last spoken with someone, and while not a social butterfly by any means, the temptation to go on and on was definitely there. Best to save it for later.
