Logs of the fortress manager

One more military dwarf died today, with no sign of his corpse. However, after asking around, I see his corpse at the bottom of the biggest stairway we have, and it seems he died from the fall.
A hatch will be installed on the stair as soon as possible.

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

Yeah... Of all the ways to go, at least he went a useful way...

A woodcutter made a very expensive cage, which will be on display in the dining room. Besides that, dwarven traders came, and are now packing up their stuff again, I gave them a few pieces of junk for most of their things.

A small note about the 2 tigermen that got close to one of the most used roads, one of them ran, the other 'said hi' to a soldier and 'was kind of thrown against a tree'.

Nothing's like good relationship with other species.

A hammerdwarf died today, I have no idea why, and his body was buried before I could locate the place of death. I'm going to just say sparring accident and move on.

An ambush, goblins caught a worker outside. Luckily, the worker used his superdwarven strength to punch or kick a goblin in the 'lower body', and then ran away from them. After that, the animal trainer walked past the ambush with the wardogs behind him, the wardogs ripped all the goblins to tiny bits, so I'm fairly sure they won't try again soon.
The ambush made me think though, after the project is done, we won't be able to safely get aboveground items again, so I started to make a wall with the excess stone and masons, they weren't working anyway.

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

Is it me, or are the military dwarves dying quite often recently?

Intruder alert! Intruder alert! A red spy is in the base!

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

Military dwarves seem to always die or get horrible injuries when I'm playing.
Also, one of them gave birth while sparring, so that can't be good.

We now have an artifact toy boat. And before anyone asks, it doesn't float, it's a stone toy boat. It looks pretty though, and has the same image on it 2 times(Of the earlier artifact barrel).

A goblin ambush, they attacked a woodcutter, and killed him. A nearby woodcutter noticed 6 goblins beating on a dwarf that was already on the ground, and ran in to kill 3 goblins before they had time to react. One of the other goblins got a lucky hit with a spear, making the woodcutter fall unconscious. After a while the goblins were now beating on this one, and the founding farmer noticed them. He walked up behind them, and punched the speargoblin so hard in the back he broke the thing's spine. He then proceeded to reduce the other goblins(All of which had armour and weapons) to a bloody pulp without even picking up the goblin's weapons. A few other dwarves came to help, and the goblins all died a slow, painful death. The woodcutter died of his injuries just a while after the last goblin died. Both fallen dwarves will have actual tombs I gave them at the last moment.

Another goblin ambush, this time on one of the busyest roads, at the busyest time. The battle was so short I didn't even see anything before all the goblins died, at least 40 dwarves were taking turns to hit them, and among those 40 were 2 military dwarves, and the animal trainer that just trained 5 war dogs. Meanwhile, I 'traded' with the elves. In this case, traded means I gave them the useless junk the crafters used as practice material, and in return, I got a bin of cloth, which we already have too much of.

A goblin thief actually got near a child today, unfortunatly for him, the child was that of a legendary mason working on the top of a tower to make it usable for archery, and the mason did not like goblins. The other masons nearby did not like goblins either, so soon enough the goblin found himself landing face-first against a hard rock road below. He did not survive.

We're getting migrants again..

1 jeweler.
3 military recruits
2 macedwarves
1 woodcutter
2 masons
1 fisherdwarf- Well, we are at the ocean.
1 lye maker

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

It's a goblin genocide. Awesome.

As for the dwarf giving birth while sparring... I am speechless.

Goblin ambush, and leading them a dwarf! A dwarf that was kidnapped when she was still a child I guess, the initial ambush was at a road, and just as the animal trainer walked by with a group of war dogs. The dogs almost all died, but the animal trainer killed a goblin. The military quickly came and killed the goblins, and 'convinced' the dwarf to join us. Sadly, their method of convincing her was lethal, and she died.
Besides that, a blacksmith made an aluminium armour rack in a possession, and we traded with the humans, they didn't really have a lot.
And some peasant got elected mayor, so I'll just stuff something expensive near his bed.

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

A dwarf? That's something new... I didn't know something like this could happen.

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

If a dwarf kid gets kidnapped by goblins, they come back later in a siege if they're grown up.

If they get kidnapped during world gen, they will also be with the goblins when grown up.

Another ambush, another dwarf leading the goblins. This time they were spotted by a marksdwarf on the walls, and quickly shot down. The dwarf was first to die this time. The goblins were quickly beaten up by about 20 dwarves who were nearby, and one of them was pushed into a pool, if he learns to swim before he drowns, then I guess he earned to get away. But judging from the missing arm and broken legs, I doubt he can do a lot. In the end, he didn't get away, but he didn't drown either, the animal trainer walked by with a group of 10 war dogs, and all war dogs jumped in to kill the goblin. A few goblin chunks are now found on land near the pool, and the pool is more of a red colour now. The dogs just got out again.

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

"The dogs? Oh, they're near the pool of blood."

"Ah, that's fine and-"

"IT USED TO BE WATER!"

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

man i wish i can color a whole pool red one day

Besides trading with the dwarven caravan(Same as usual, nothing big), I've spotted one of our military dwarves carrying around a mangled but still alive baby. As it turns out, she was using it as a shield in the last battle, and a goblin hit it a few times. The baby is still alive, and probably won't die for now, so I guess we just saved a steel bar which would have been a shield.

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

Words cannot describe how epic this game is, I only wish I could play it better. As is, I live vicariously through you, XSI :D

Re: Logs of the fortress manager

There are a few good tutorials out there, if you want a link, I can get you one.

A cat just gave birth to 9 kittens, but that's not too important now, we also have an amazing millstone artifact, put together by a peasant that decided to just do masonry work. It's not expensive, and I doubt it's useful, but at least it looks nice.

(At this point I already stopped playing because my brother is being an idiot, and strangely, I knew from the day I first saw him that he would grow up to be worth nothing, an asshole, and that he would have the intellect of a fridge magnet.)
