(Open to New Players) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"I would be much obliged. And if you are to do zis, then we part ways here." He reached a cross road where there were more people walking about, all of which seemed like normal peasants who liked to stare at unusual adventurers. "Left down this street. Ze area is believed to be populated by criminal activity. I've reason to suspect organized crime iz within zat district. Be careful. Zey will not be slouches like common bandits." he said, before departing and leaving Talia and co. to it.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"So our first job in the city is to investigate a brothel? Given every thing else we've done on this mission it seems like relatively small potatoes." The ranger shrugs "And a supposed slavers den. If there's one thing rangers and by extension my tribe can't stand is slavers. Bastards forcing girls to do terrible things like that. No better then that damn half orc we ran ito in his plans."She sighs and keeps pace, following along with the others . "Can't let these fools best us. Got a lot of pride on the line and I'm not about to repeat my internment."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

''Saving these girls from such a horrible fate does sound very appealing to me, and I’m sure my goddess would appreciate me saving them. Truthfully, if there wasn’t more pressing matters to attend to I would’ve accepted such a noble cause without question.'' Weiss explained, before facing knight with a serious look on her face. ''However, I believe the more pressing issue is your behavior. Now, I’m fully aware that you’ve accepted the power of corruption out of necessity, and if you had another choice you would’ve gone with it. But, from what I’ve seen and heard from you so far, you’ve been using that power without any restraint, and without knowing the consequences of using it. It should be pretty obvious to you that the enemy intends for you to become unchained or at least corrupt you to some extent, and make you willingly betray your fellow humans, while guiding us to do the same. If you’re wondering why she’d use such an elaborate tactic, instead of taking the city when she could, it is because willing subjects are far more precious and manageable than subjugated ones.'' Weiss said with a stern voice, hoping that the knight wouldn’t take this berating too personal, but she couldn’t sit at the sidelines and watch such a valuable hero turn to corruption, especially if she didn’t even attempt to prevent him from walking that path.

''Now, I would gladly save those poor women, as I cannot stand the thought of innocent people being enslaved against their will, but I think lifting your curse and finding a suitable replacement for your weapon should be our first priority. After all, what do we accomplish if we save those women from slavery, if they’re going to be slaves to the corruption?'' Weiss both explained and suggested. ''However, if you don’t have the required information, I would suggest for you to show some restrained from now on, and find more information about your curse and a suitable replacement for your weapon, while we will take care of the issues around the city. I’m sure most of us won’t mind helping around the city and reducing crime in your stead, I’d even gladly fight your battles, as long as you promise not to use your corrupted weapon.'' Weiss said with a kind smile, in hopes of showing that what she was saying was only for his and the cities wellbeing.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Muller simply nodded. "If you are so powerful as to rid of me of all my problems, indeed... That would allow me to breathe. For now, please do what is right." he said, before finally going out of view.

This left the girls with their supposed destination. If they chose to go, then they will end up in a slummy part of town. Moss seemed to grow due to lack of care, and it seems like there were people dressed in shaggy clothes all over. Those who were dressed proper were dressed like well-to-do criminals, as if they didn't even fear showing their true colors around here. Their ranks were scattered but numerous, and judging by their brown leather armor and white scarves to hide their faces, they were all aligned to the same faction.

The girls would stop conversations as they came into view, all folk alike be their well-to-do or not, stopping to stare at the women marching in.

Quincy would hum, her eyes shifting back and forth. "I was often told to avoid such areas as a child. I get the feeling we stand out a lot here, and that we aren't welcome."

That's when a spectator chuckled, his eyes behind the scarf looking Quincy up and down. "Too the contrary darlin, you're quite welcome." he said.

The brothel Muller spoke of was down the street, where two of the well-to-do men stood with swords at their side, acting as guards for the establishment. Many more of them lined the street, dangerous men moving about like ants, some carrying crates, some walking with frightened looking girls dressed in tattered clothes while gingling money at them. And some girls even looked well off like the men, dressed rather well despite the area, some of such women even had two men walking at her side, enjoying how the men were offering her coin, living off of their lust.

"Wasting so much moss. It's a shame, could eat it. Instead of letting it take over buildings" Kat said as they entered into the slummy part of town. Though she'd also look at all the people staring at them. "Think we are drawing attention. To many good looking girls in one place."

The barbarian couldn't help but chuckle a bit to herself and breathed in deep, causing her relatively large chest to strain against her wrappings. Even if the attention was a bit...greasy, she did always like attention to her figure.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Try not to attract too much of it, because it's not helping." Talia grimaced as she looked around. Not some common bandits alright. Judging by the number of people wearing that bloody scarf, this was a big and organized group. Not something they could simply hack their way out of indiscriminately. So if push came to shove, the whole area would turn hostile towards them if they simply smashed the place. The brothel was easy to find, at least, but what now? Idly, she glanced at the bard. "Don't suppose you've heard of any stories like this one?"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

As the girls stood there, a trio of the sketchy looking gang came forth to meet with them. "What are you ladies doing, looking so frightened in this part of town?" one asked with a grin, a normal white skinned human by the looks of it. "You want us to show you around?" a second asked, looking like a half-elf. "We'll take good care of ya, baby~" announced what seemed to be a brown skinned human from the desert region, far from home.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Huh. Seems even here, humans based themselves in tribes just as much as they use to back in the old days. Territories, markings and the like to signify their status and allegiance. She could only imagine how difficult conflicts must get between the various gangs of the city. Is it all clandestine and sneaky or is there more open violence on the streets, like small armies of brawlers punching away at each other? Either way, the ranger knew she'd ahve to stay on her toes around here with such men and women. Outsiders were only ever viewed as one of two things: Prey or a threat and she didn't like to be either one in hostile territory. At least she had her friends to back her up. Though it wouldn't take long for the locals to catch sight of the group of armed and armored women walking about their turf and a few of them would even approach them, leaving her in an awkward position. "I wouldn't say we're frightened, boys. Just taking in our surroundings. And by take care, you mean to treat us like those actual frightened girls in the rags back there? Quite a conclusion to jump to if you ask me."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The men chuckled. "Do ya know where ya are, milady?" inquired the half-elf. "You're in Garland's turf. If a bunch of girls like you show up out of nowhere, it's his concern, right? So, I say, you might be best turning around... If not, why not a one-way trip to meeting him?" he inquired. But then, the dark skinned one bumped the half-elf's shoulder, and gestured at the Ranger's arm left uncovered and never covered back again. "Rather, what are heroes of the Order seeking to gain from coming here?" the tanned man inquired, a hand on his hilt and the soon aware human going pale and giving a whistle with two fingers to his lips. Out of the alleys, doorways and otherwise, heads popped out. Like vermin they reared their heads at the call of trouble. "I'd kindly advise you to leave." said the half-elf. "No blood today. For either of us. You shall be outnumbered this day, but neither do we wish to lose our numbers to you. Just turn around."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Weiss didn’t feel safe at all once they reached what she could guess was the slums the gang resided in, and looking around, she could easily tell that many of these men and women were depraved people, trying to make a living of others misery. Of course, it didn’t last long before they were approached by several uncouth fellows, since without the proper attire they really stood out from the crowd of criminals, with Weiss probably standing out more than the others, with her armor and holy symbols. And within no time, they figured out that they were heroes, though Weiss had no idea what they meant with the Order, but at least they now knew the name of their target.

''I’m terribly sorry for encroaching on Garland’s turf, we’re new to the city and we’re unfamiliar with this Garland person.'' Weiss responded while bowing her head apologetic at the half-elf. ''I’m also unfamiliar with this Order you speak off, you see, these heroes are currently escorting me through the city to gather donations for Eldath, and it looks like we took the wrong turn somewhere.'' Weiss explained with a confused look on her face.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The three men gave a collective whistle when she mentioned Eldath. "Eldath? Well, why didn't you say so? We're so sorry, priestess. Garland is a big fan." said the human. "We's tryin' to be on our best behavior for her peacefulness, but we're just too rotten." he said apologetically.

"You must be here to do the church's local 'convincing us to be good boys' thing again. Yeah-yeah." he waved his hand. "Milady Chaos' envoy made us a good offer though. Glad you also brought some nice negotiation with ya. Some delicious lookin' ladies." he leered at the girls lecherously. "Well, lessnot fuck around. C'mon now, let's go meet Father Garland." he said, turning and beckoning the girls to follow.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Father Garland?" Talia raised an eyebrow. "You haven't mentioned he was of the religious persuasion before." Truth be told, this was quite interesting. And potentially alarming, given the whole Chaos thing that just got mentioned. "How did that come about, if you don't mind me asking?" The tiefling inquired as she scrutinized the man, looking for signs that suggested planned or spontaneous treachery on his part. She was not about to blindly trust a crook not to lead her into an ambush.

Insight:

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Thinking about it, Talia didn't notice much religious air about them as they called him Father Garland. It was seemingly more about respect. As if they viewed him as a leader instead of a prophet. They also seemed lecherous yet respectful to Eldath, as if there was indeed some history between them and Weiss' religion.

"Not Father in a religious way. More like, he's the daddy runnin' things around here and we respect that." the human said. "He's the one who started this whole gig. Pulling together all the unfortunate, poor, and starving souls to pool our efforts together and actually make something of ourselves. Sure, ain't the most honorable work, but better than pickin' pockets off the street before the guard cuts off your hand. Now, we just 'persuade' the more fortunate to part with some of their wealth so the less fortunate don't have to starve, ya see?" he declared. "You ladies probably wouldn't know about that. You all look pretty well-to-do. Healthy and well taken care of. This life is one where you swim together or your ass drowns. Welcome to the Pauper's Walk. That's our name for this district."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Weiss listened to the men speak about their abysmal living conditions, and explain why they’re doing the things they are. Although Weiss agreed that their living conditions didn’t look amazing, they shouldn’t solve their problems by using and abusing others. ''I’m honestly surprised that you’re already familiar with my church, but it doesn’t surprise me that they’ve already tried to convince people to act more peaceful around these parts.'' Weiss said, but she was pretty sure that her church didn’t only try to use words to convince these men to become more peaceful, and since they assumed they’ve been send over by the church to convince them once more, probably means that they expect them to do more than just talk.

However, this would probably be the only chance they get on meeting the one in charge without fighting through hordes of criminals. ''I understand that you’ve got to make a living somehow, but you shouldn’t do it at the expense of others. Especially those that are just as unfortunate as you, if you were merely a group of men looking out for each other, I’m sure my church wouldn’t sent people over to convince you to act more peaceful. And if you think I simply do not understand, I’ll have you know that I live in a rundown shack by myself, and still find time to help those around me. However, I suppose I’m not here to berate the lot of you, but to discuss a solution with Garland, so please lead the way.'' Weiss requested, after she felt no immediate malice from these men.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"So father in the sense that he's something of a guardian to the lost and downtrodden members of society. Given the rapid militarization and the ever growing tax burden, I can see why people would want to stick togethre and support each other in some way. A noble goal, just not what I would call the best execution."Again refering to the frightened women they saw earlier. "But I am an outsider looking in. Maybe Father Garland will provide the bigger picture for us. I mean, we have heard some interesting rumors about this area the past few hours. I would hate for them to be proven right."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Laya had kept quiet, letting the others take the lead and be heroes again. She wasn't sure she liked where this was going, but such was life and she would follow along. Still, that Chaos had gotten into all this too wasn't good. They were truly outnumbered it seemed in the Capitol. The poor and roguish types and the gnolls and then on top of that the cities leader and possibly those around him too.

Still, this Garland could be helpful. If he was in contact with the gnolls, it might be a way to get insight into just what the end game here was. And if not, well... They'd have to figure what to do from there. She was certain they weren't going to be let go just casually though.

For now, she just kept her eyes open and let them do the talking while mentally jotting down notes. She also observed their... escort to see if they actually were leading them into an ambush.

(4+2 Insight, Laya doesn't sense much I suspect.)

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The men chuckled. "The difference between us, is that we're not living in shacks anymore." the human said to Weiss. Then to the Vylyra, the half-elf nodded. "See? That one gets it. Though perhaps not as noble as you see it, we appreciate the compliment."

Then finally, Lyna tried to gain insight on their intentions... She learned that they were leading them to the place that they were leading them. How enlightening.

They walked through the dilapidated streets, wrought with disrepair and general absent care for the area and it's people. Graffiti was sprayed everywhere that detailed, "Death to the Knight King!" and other such messages of hatred for the man they just met, even distinct drawings of the man in armor being hung. "No love for the Knight King as you can see." the human said. "Hasn't a care for the area, says it's just a hive for criminals. Even if that's true, there's perfectly innocent little women and children here. It's up to Father Garland to care for em. Sure, plenty of those unfortunate women end up as his concubines, but what a small price to pay, eh? Now they get to live in his mansion, and eat healthy, and give birth to protected little children." He declared. "And yet, for owning so many women, he's called a monster. Some righteous puritans we got in this city." he spat.

That's when it came into view. that looked like the light against the darkness of the urban city.

There were a pair of scarfed, female guards at the gates both looked like tieflings with tails and all just like Talia, who stopped even their fellows. "What's your business?" one woman asked. The human answered. "Eldath wishes to speak with Garland again. Her priestess and her unusual fellows." he said. The Talia gave a hostile stare. "I'll hear it from the patrons themselves. What is your business?" the tiefling asked again, more directly towards the group. "I will relay your message to Garland and see if he accepts your request, so make it good. Otherwise I'll have to detain you for attempting to breech private property."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Weiss didn’t look pleased at all when the men made fun of her living condition, especially since everything they owned probably belonged to someone else. ''I’d rather live in a rundown shack then forcefully take what isn’t mine, no matter how justified it might look for my perspective.'' Weiss snarled back at the human.

It wasn’t hard to see that the king wasn’t appreciated around here, and after Weiss had seen the king’s attitude, she could think up various reasons why they would dislike him. In Weiss’ opinion, the king was acting extremely reckless, and he didn’t look like the best leader when it came to ruling the city itself, it probably would’ve been a lot better if they made him the leader of an army, rather than an entire city. ''Well, I’m not that much of a fan of him either. Although, seeing that he’s rather war hungry, and I’m a cleric of Eldath, you might’ve already guessed that. In my opinion he’s far too reckless of a man, and his recklessness might be the downfall of the city.'' Weiss responded to the men, before listening what Garland did for this section of the city. ''As long as he doesn’t take those women by force, then so be it, and if they’re happy to be his concubines, I’ve got no issues with it personally either.''

Weiss looked impressed by the size of the mansion, as she didn’t exactly expect such a building around these parts. When they reached Garlanad’s gates they we’re greeted by two bad tempered tielfings, perhaps the bad temper was a racial thing, Weiss thought to herself. ''That seems awfully harsh, especially since we’re outside of the gate and only asking to meet Garland.'' Weiss spoke up with a friendly smile, before introducing herself. ''But I suppose I’ll drop that for now and introduce myself. I’m Weiss, a cleric of Eldath, and the church has sent us to convince Garland to lead this part of the city into a more prosperous and law-abiding direction. However, we’ve realized that merely preaching won’t give us much leverage in discussing the further development of this part of the city, so instead we’ve hired able bodied women to help around these parts, in hopes of coming to some kind of agreement.'' Weiss explained, she hoped that her explanation would at least be good enough to grant them an audience with Garland.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Kat stared at the estate, rather surprised that well, it was just out here. Really, you'd think that someone managing to build a place like this in the middle of the slums without it being suspicious and the police cracking down on it. Really, if she ever ran a town there'd never be a place that had a 'den of criminals.' If anything she'd be down there herself sorting it all out! Also breach of property? She'd like to see them try! She'd give anyone that went for that a good swing of the flat side of her blade.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Talia raised an eyebrow at the threat of the gate guards. Detained for breaching property? Someone was pushing their weight around. The question was whether this was something mandated by this Father Garland, or just the guards being dicks as their kind was known to do. As far as she could tell, they had the right to turn them away, but not to arrest them. And whatever the consequences would be, they'd regret trying. Still, the sorceress kept silent, letting Weiss say her piece first. No need to antagonize them without reason, not while doing a diplomatic approach.

Still, this whole situation was getting more and more difficult. The knight king seemed to mean well, but he was obviously a warrior first. She had no idea how good a manager and statesman he was, but perhaps he could have used some help with handling those matters. On the other hand, Garland clearly was no saint himself, and his M.O. was eerily alike that of a minion of Chaos. It was becoming increasingly obvious to the half-devil that the enemy had sank her fangs deep into the city, and removing them would be a hellish task.
