(Open to New Players) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

He gasped when he heard and saw the reveal. "Oh! So you're..." he hummed. His other hand idly going to grasp his weapon, such that two hands were on it now. "... Why did you hide zis from me?" he inquired slowly.

Quincy backed up. "Can we see yours?" she inquired.

He went silent at that. "... It takes a very, very long time to get out of zis armor."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Laya listened and observed all the situation, shrugging a bit mentally at things being pushed ahead. Though she winced mentally when the ranger went and blew their cover. Figures.

"Well so much for that. Simple answer. The enemy is corrupting those who have hero potential. I don't disagree with your logic behind your martial law here, but if we're going to work with each other, there needs to be honesty. And it does not take a long time to remove a gauntlet. You want our help, you be up front. So if you have gone fight fire with fire route, be honest about it. And if you've not, you lose nothing by putting any concerns to rest. Gotta be clear for the history books and tales right?"

Laya put on a friendly smile as she considered the knight. "Either way we're here to put out fires and some are in the area. Better we narrow down the issues we need to address now right? That way we don't have to waste time playing who's more suspicious."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The eyes behind the helmet narrowed. "And if I refuse? Does zat displease you?" he inquired. "Rather, ze tone of zis conversation... I was worried indeed that it would take this route. Ze short answer, ya, I have taken ze power of darkness into my blade. With it, I have gained heroic power. But alas, I vill not show you my wrist. If zat does not settle in your stomachs, zen I have a solution for zat." he poised, ready for any conflict that they wished to bring as he stood in a reactive stance.

"Mein powerful Crusader Blade has a knack for digestion problems. Ya."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Laya shrugs a bit. "What benefit would fighting you serve, Sir Knight? If you win, you make an enemy of other heroes in the world and truly turn your back on the light. If we kill you, we commit an.... Close enough to regicide and leave this place with no leader and it'll be overrun in no time. The only person who benefits in our fighting is the forces of darkness. But, you do understand that these things don't come without prices yes? You're not the first man we've met with bright ideals who accepted the darkness to do it. In his case he was a bit deluded of the origins, but while it brought happiness to many peoples, it cursed his home around him to be harsh and hostile. Chaos offers an easy path to power that comes with a price. But it's also a power that's not your own. Chaos may take it away at any time or make demands of you in turn."

She shakes her head sadly. "What need you of this power, Sir Knight? From what I hear you are already a leader of renown, someone of capable ability and one with loyal followings. It sounds like you were already a hero in your own right. So, to what end do you need the dark forces you've claimed?"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The knight let out a grunt of disapproval. "You speak such words of visdom and forethought of matters you were never present for." he declared. "My tale is one of irony. The dark forces are vhy my city is under attack. Zeir forces beyond my measure. The very same dark forces came to me... And offered me ze power to defeat zem..."

Muller&Chaos Dragon said:
The city was in sheer chaos. Walls were shattered in small holes here and there, the dog vermin swarmed through. The soldiers fighting couldn't stop friends and family being rutted before their eyes, before they left just as quickly. Their attacks were unstoppable. That is when a malicious aura made itself known to the King Knight in his chambers where he silently tried to form solutions that would never work. In his state of helplessness, she declared to him...

"Mister Knight~ Son of Muller~" she cooed, "You seem to be in despair."

He grabbed his blade, and looked to the demon dragon. "Vat is zis!? You seek to fight me!? Unexpectedly honorable of you, DEMON!" he roared, before charging at her without hesitation. She lifted an arm, and soft human skin turned to invulnerable draconic scales, bouncing his blade clean off before she placed her other hand upon his face, and casting a magic that sent him flying backwards, tumbling over his desk and sending governmental papers everywhere.

"Please, Muller. You could never hope to hold a candle to me even if you were at the pinnacle of human potential. I've come to offer you a chance to save your kingdom. I hold the power to defeat your enemies." she declared.

Muller stood up and roared. "Ze very same you used to THREATEN ME!?"

"Aye, the same. I hope you understand the situation, but I need to put my colors on the board. Otherwise, what will my friends from the village do without my chaos to guide them?" she giggled. "Like moths to a flame, and you will hold the torch."

"Never show them your arm, for I have placed a curse on your wife and daughters. At a moment of my choosing they will find their minds broken and wrought with insatiable desire for the knotted cocks of the gnolls outside your walls. Betray me, and they will suffer. But if you're a good boy... You will find nothing but peace and prosperity for your kingdom, devoid of wars on my part."

Then, she erupted in violet flame, vanishing as if made of dust.

"I await your decision." her voice echoed, but Muller already knew the answer. As did she.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Laya shakes her head. "I'm not omniscient, certainly. I'm a bard, I'm guided by the tales and histories of the past. And the demon is one of the past as well. And while her goals are unknown and her motivations unclear, I know that she threw the greatest of fits when we undermined her by helping her pawn turn away from the darkness and become a hero that he was meant to be. So whatever her goals are, undermining her rather than engaging in pointless conflict is preferred."

She looked up at the knight. "Without knowing what she hopes to gain here, it's hard to say what our course should be. But ensuring the gnolls are no longer a threat through one means or another will be needed. for all we know, the wrist curse is a bluff and you're not even wielding dark powers at all, and she's trying to make you succumb to darkness of your own accord. Not that I'd recommend risking the wrist thing. Not yet anyways."

Laya then tapped a finger on her cheek as she started to pace. "Well, I'm sorry that this hardships been thrust upon you, Sir Knight. But I'll help how I can. I believe the first order of business should be ensuring we're as well informed as possible on the situation. From there we can try to get an idea of what we're running up against. First off, the gnolls. How have they gotten so strong as to get into the city itself so quickly? They've always existed so you must have some idea of what the "blessing" they've received from chaos is taking the shape of. How many and where are they situated and what have their recent behavior been like? And were the people you killed here related to that all somehow?"

"I'd like to know how your powers work as well. If we can figure that out we might have a better idea of just what Chaos wants exactly. At least here. And do you have a library? Some research into this mess might not go amiss. Chances are if she can pull off these sort of curses there must be documents from the previous battle referencing this sort of thing. It might provide more insight as well."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Talia couldn't help but massage her temples as she stared at how this conversation had been developing. It occured to her at some point that there was something she wanted to mention, but between the annoying witch getting them nearly enlisted and the conversation shifting to a much more complicated and important matter, she wasn't even sure how to bring it up. Or if it even mattered anymore. There was one other matter that came to mind, however. "Might be a good idea to know who the gnoll leader is, if we're going to research this mess. The last couple times we dealt with the trouble by going for the head, metaphorically speaking." The sorceress pointed out.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Minions of evil only act so well coordinated when zey have an evil intelligence to guide zem. They have tools as well, carefully crafted tools, capable of laying siege even on zis carefully fortified city." he explained. "Therefore, zere iz no doubt that someone not with ze mind of a dog is leading them. Smart as well, to leave before I can mount a proper extermination of zeir forces. They strike like insects, sucking away at what zey can before leaving just as ze strike is incoming. Lately, their attacks have been thwarted. Thanks to that twisted deal I made with ze equally twisted woman." he spat.

He pointed back towards the corpses far back now. "Zey were just criminals. They sought to take what was not theirs and leave with it. To vat end, I do not know. Probably just selfish survival." he theorized. "Ze power given to me is zat of premonition. Or rather... Ze evil is merely mocking me by telling me vere zey vill attack next... All I need to do is defeat zese gnolls, then I can take the next step to taking back my family from zat dragon's claws."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"In my experience, things are rarely so simple as to allow such. Chaos enjoys her double dealing. I imagine that the curse will turn you into a monster if you exterminate them. Possibly into a gnoll. At least that's the sort of curse I'd do in this situation. Dramatic irony and all that crap. And hide the progress by saying nobody can see your wrist or else trouble.," shrugs Laya, pondering a bit, "I doubt she's interested in a fair fight. And luring us in can't be all there is to it. It also raises the question of WHY she's luring us in."

Laya paced a bit, pulling down her lute and strumming a couple notes as she thought, "The gnolls are probably operating similar to the goblins last time. They dart in, steal breeding partners, dart out. Chaos grants them rapid reproductive and maturation rates and omnivirility. So stopping them would require saving their captives, and preventing them from gaining more. Getting the leader to stop their activities could possibly do this."

Laya frowned a bit, thinking. "Every Unchained leader has been someone with hero ability however. Meaning the leader has to be one with that ability and capacity. Usually they turn to Chaos for one reason or another. Blackmailed, wanting to make a better life for their people, hatred of an abuser... Determining what makes them tick might let us disarm them without giving Chaos the conflict and death she seems to seek. And if they disband you should be alright overall... But that requires identifying, reaching and finding out what the leader wants. Have you tried sending an envoy?"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Envoy? Are you mad!?" he exclaimed. "I would never send someone on such a dangerous mission! Certain death or violation awaits! Regardless, taking ze gnolls out is top priority, no matter how much you dislike my methods. Und since you have no will to fight, I assume you are going to help me. So, prepare. I must consult my advisors as how to handle the people's despair. We must at least prevent starvation from taxation. Ensure ze people have food and water. You can help with zis, if you so wish." he offered.

Quincy hummed. "Yeah, we might need to talk things out a little bit. Not about stopping the gnolls, I think we planned to do that anyway, but mostly to handle the situation of Chaos." she nodded.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The ranger took all this in, quite surprised that someone who was quite virtuous and well meaning would be so easily swayed. I understand wanting to do what is best for his people but to put such a heavy burden on your shoulders and risk your family? It seemed almost mad. Then again, given what else she'd encountered on this quest so far, this mans plight was far from the most unusual. "Securing the home front can be just as valuable in this situation as dealing with the threat. An unsecured home can lead to trouble. Is the city completely surrounded by the gnoll tribes or do you have back entrances and other ways out. If so, I'd suggest hunting parties into the wilds or seeing if neighboring cities might open up their larders to the plight of your city. But offer them something to sweeten the pot."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Technically, as a regent, shouldn't you have the option of calling in someone to help?" Talia mused. "Anyway. You mentioned securing food and water for the people. I take it there are issues on that front that need resolving?" The sorceress asked. "Just tell us what needs to be done, at the very least we can quickly sort out what we can or can't do. And speaking of taxation, the mayor of the town we helped with their lizard problems mentioned that your tax collectors - or people who claimed to be them, at least - have been getting rather pushy. Something about saying she didn't pay the taxes even when she's got papers stating otherwise. It's been sparking rumors of corruption outside the walls of your city."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Muller sighed. "I cannot ask for help. Not for lack of ability, but for ze reason that I do not wish to make other countries vulnerable to Chaos just because of me." he explained. "I would be seen as a weak leader. At least zis way, I can keep face with my people, and handle the threat." he said, before directing his hands to the waters that separated the two roads and lines of buildings as if the streets were built like the real world Venice. "Sewers, towers, hiding in merchant carriages ignorant to them... Vermin always find a way into cities." he explained. "I imagine they have separate parties all around, considering the attacks that occur, but more zen one tribe? I do not know for sure, beyond ze main camp I will attack."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"So you know their location at least, then?" Talia raised an eyebrow. And he was planning to assault it, no less. Interesting. "If you don't mind me asking, what is the situation there? As in, how much intelligence is available on their stronghold?" The sorceress questioned. As much as she didn't mind helping fight Chaos, she wasn't all that keen on potentially getting into a foolish charge. "And how bad is the situation with infiltrators? Do you think they might sabotage any preparations for the battle?"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"If zey do try, and I do not doubt zat zey will, then I will CRUSH them single handedly as they feed their numbers to my weapons." he boasted. "Then, we will attack their stronghold, built like a wooden fortress. The wood will burn and go down with ease with my seige machinery. No matter what they boast they cannot outmatch technology."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Weiss simply listened to the conversation going on, and was surprised to learn how the knight had gotten his power. Unlike Laya and Talia, Weiss was a lot more concerned when it came to the curse, and why the knight would accept such a dangerous power. Perhaps he was willing to risk everything to save himself and his wife, or perhaps he didn’t realize how dangerous the power he accepted was, and how threatening it was for the country. And while the conversation continued, Weiss only grew more concerned, as knight seemed to enjoy abusing his new power, instead of using it carefully. If Weiss assumptions was correct, and the demoness’ goal was to corrupt the capital city, the knight not only had fallen for the trap, but was going to happily deliver the city into the demoness’ hands at the rate he was going, and having the demonic forces control the capital city would be disastrous. Either way, to Weiss, defeating the gnolls shouldn’t be their top priority, but purifying the knight should be.

As soon as the knight finished his speech about crushing the gnolls, Weiss decided to speak up. ''Hm, it looks like you’ve got everything under control then, and since my religion forbids me to partake in wars, unless my allies strongly want to assist you, you’ve got to excuse us, as I’m currently on missionary work, and they’ve promised to help me.'' Weiss said, hoping that they understood that helping the knight would only further the demoness’ plans, and that finding a way to purify the curse was their top priority. ''However, if you don’t mind me asking, if you already plan on assaulting the gnolls, regardless of our help, why are you going out of your way to search for heroes?''

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

He glanced at Weiss upon her final question. "Because there is a need for heroes where there is a current lack of them." was all he said.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Right, then." Talia sighed. "Where do you think we'd be needed most? That's the important thing right now. What are the biggest issues that need addressing immediately that would be best to tackle by a group such as ours?"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Muller hummed at her question. "Despite my vigilance, corruption still lurks in zis capital. If you wish to help me, right now I am headed to where I suspect to be a brothel whose working girls are less zan willing. While when it comes to such establishments, I hesitantly allow it, I cannot allow human trafficking on my watch." he explained. Then, he gives the location and description of the brothel. "You lot may have better luck getting in without alarm since you are not well known, if you wish to be of aid. I'd appreciate one less distraction."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"And given how much of a rag-tag bunch we are, we might fit in with the clientele a little bit." Talia mused. Hell, if the place was really involved with slave trade, then perhaps her kind's less than stellar reputation would make her stand out less. Granted, the group being all women wasn't exactly helpful in this regard, but they could wing this. Though it'd be hard to explain Weiss away, unless she chose to hide her identity as a cleric. "We can probably come up with a couple ways to deal with that problem."
