Question... what would you do?

Re: Question... what would you do?

You're overreacting. This is the situation that you've given us:

one of my "friends" decided
to change my wallpaper into goatse.
now I'm considering
just end my friendship with him then and there.

I'm still waiting for the part where a harmless joke becomes a big deal.

This is the kind of thing my friends do to each other all the time, and we just laugh it off without a second thought. What exactly is the problem? Yes, your parents might have seen it, but they didn't. No harm done. Just forget about it.

Also, +rep to Phoenix for his epic desktop joke.

Aww snap ya'll haven't heard that one. That's always fun, I had it done to me once.

I got the guy back by changing his startup noise to that explosion (ya know the WHAT THE FU-BOOOOOOOM-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) and putting his volume completely maxed before he signed on.

QFT, except the rep part I need to spread it around before I can rep Phoenix again.

Re: Question... what would you do?

I'm agreeing with Twisted and Bartnum here. It's a practical joke, and not even a very harmful one. Desktop assassinations are one of the oldest jokes out there. It's a common game among my friends too. If you leave your computer exposed, then you deserve what you get is generally the rule (within friendly limits of course). If anything I'd say you owe him the same back, but this whiny "end my friendship with him then and there" stuff is really rather overdoing it, especially coming from someone who knows /b/.

Doesn't mean you can't cook up a better prank to show them how unoriginal they were of course. Just don't make an emotional scene about it. The hidden icons thing is good, and can be combined with other stuff. For longer lasting fun than a mere desktop switch, why not use the task manager to have their computer open up a certain file (image, music, something fun) every hour or every time they start up some other program? Be creative.

Except rickrolling causes, at worst, momentary irritation. I gather this one could have ended much worse than that.

Yeah, explaining that it was a prank

Re: Question... what would you do?

you're all making this much more convoluted than it needs to be, just poison him. it solves everyones problems.

Hope it helps.

Re: Question... what would you do?

May not work for you, and you won't have to end your friendship, when my friends and I do that to each other, we just hit each other. So, my solution is, if someone actually hopped on and turned my desktop into a goatse, and I knew it was him, I'd punch him in the gut, and say, "Thanks, dickhead, my folks might have seen your faggot bullshit that your put on my computer. Remind me to boil you face in acid."

... We say shit like that to each other a lot, and we're still friends... Kinda. >.>

I don't quite get what's going on, but it sounds like a prank. If it is, just tell him and let him know that he basically crossed the line. If you two aren't close, then I could see why you're so willing to end the friendship. However, if it's a close friend, one prank (or the ilk) shouldn't define the relationship.

Re: Question... what would you do?

I would have shot him/her, depending on location and how many people were around.

Of course, there's always the good ol' one two PAWNCH.

You might get charged with assault, but hey, that's why you own a car.

Re: Question... what would you do?

I don't think he planned for your parents to see it. You should tell him off because there was a large chance they could have, but the goatse-ing itself seems a bit of a strange reason to end a friendship on. If a girl ended a friendship with me over something like that I'd assume that really there was more to it than that...

Do you not like him for other reasons?

Re: Question... what would you do?

Best prank I ever pulled was with the use of remote desktop. I have a mega sound system - 7.1 speakers - hooked up to my desktop, and they get incredibly loud. I remotely control the computer with my laptop, wait for my friends to tell me when my roommate is in, and blast hardcore porn through them when I'm halfway across campus. Takes some hardware but if you have it, it's classic.
