Well I get the doomposting since this is a porn game forum but I find the state of affairs fine all things considered. So might as well play devil's advocate here.
One can assume the original R18 content was only there because R15 games don't sell on DLsite (note how I specify only DLsite) and the dev never cared for it in the first place. Removing the censorship shows the lack of care in the R18, in that
the dicks are literally untextured cylinders. This puts Nekonyan in a quandary due to the usual censorship discourse by people who don't care to understand the behind-the-scenes. They either release it decensored and get the anti-censorship people whinging, or they release it censored and it looks like literal shit, or they put in more money and manhours to get better models of penises, which I think would be a negligible change in sales and an overall net loss.

Furthermore, this part isn't true. The market for R15 moe indie games exists and I'm willing to claim is more accessible than R18 indie games, outside of Japan. In fact, the dev isn't making this decision blindly because there's a very good example of a moe game that released just last year to a "Very Positive" rating and 8k reviews (so assume 2-5x the sales). The third-person shooter and sorta souls-like game, Little Witch Nobeta. The game itself is basically all-ages while the Patreon is R17-ish but doesn't cross the R18 line afaik, so clearly something's working out for them and that something can very well work out for this game too.
