As was stated in last month’s development update, 0.36 was primarily aimed towards cleaning up code and paying technical debt…

…But I can’t exactly give you such a boring update, so we also added some extremely requested visual features!

While content wise this update is primarily visual, it’s also a very impactful update for gameplay. Many of the bugfixes involved in this update were really significant, and some of the balance changes can affect the game pretty wildly. You may want to update your settings and toggles!

Features
Cleanup

Huge parts of the code have been cleaned up and made more readable and efficient.

Much of it you may not see immediate changes from, but this allows us to waste less time in the future and has allowed us to review many of the changes below.

Please note that any cleanup/optimization comes with potential bugs and balance changes that may affect the game. Reports are appreciated.

Wings

Yes, wings have been added. They have been added with absolute total disregard for clipping problems. You asked for this. We now have given this. I beg, do not report clipping as a bug. I BEG.

Butt wings are a thing, too.

Hairstyles & Color Variety

9 new hairstyles, some of which are on the longer side and may cause clipping. See my request above from wings.

Selecting multiple hairstyles will now allow her to choose a random hairstyle from the enabled selections for every session.

4x more potential hair color formats, by inverting the highlights and base color, and adding solid color variants for both the base and the highlight color. Which leads into…

Hair Color Favor Request

You can now request any of the new hair colors with favor!

Content
  • Added basic strokes to the rhythm system.
  • Added the "No Holidays" toggle.
  • Added the “Wings” toggle with total disregard for clipping
  • Added the “Bone Wings” toggle with total disregard for clipping
  • Added the new Hairstyles menu, containing 9 new hairstyles.

Balance
  • Completely rewrote the way timed checks happen in the game. This can affect events, roleplay, findom, yandere, positioning, toy events, and decisions. They should now be more appropriately spread out as the next timer is calculated after a task/event is fully complete.
  • Added a ''Failed'' interaction to Training. This causes the current training segment to end.
  • Large increase in edges for max edging difficulty as a result of a bug fix. See Bugfixes.
  • Edging no longer increases energy during energy drain sessions. This caused too much imbalance in session duration.
Polish & Misc
  • One Handed and Silent are now part of the Player Status menu.
  • Nipple clamp incompatibilities added.

There are two main segments to this !

The first is the rework to Favor and the addition of Devotion. Favor, when it was added last year, was intended to primarily be a little bonus system that allowed you to feel more rewarded for your sessions, without encouraging you to optimize it too much.

Over the last year of feedback, the general consensus has been that Favor is earnead too easily, and eventually not spent enough. I did not want to simply reduce favor gains or encourage optimization in a way that isn’t befitting of this game, so instead I decided to focus this rework on minor bonuses and flavor through Favor Ranks that earn you various privileges with your Succubus.

These favor ranks are obtained by hitting various favor thresholds that were set based on a feedback request to get a general gauge of where each kind of player currently sits.

A secondary new addition to this system is the Devotion system, which is a requirement to earn favor past a certain rank. Devotion requires you to participate in the game’s various systems to prove your, well, devotion to your Succubus and earn the right to more favor. It’s a system designed to be entirely optional while incentivizing you to experiment with more of what the game has to offer.

The second part of this update started out as entirely different plans that were completely sidetracked by those plans’ needs. A common issue the game’s design space has always encountered is the lack of, and inconsistency of high-impact rewards, punishments, and overall events.

With the new Consequences system, my aim was to standardize these outcomes to make them easier to develop, while making them far easier to integrate into systems like Spin the Wheel and now Deals, which are new periodically offered prompts giving you two different consequences simultaneously. It’s your choice to accept both or pass on the deal. This is a very large shake-up to the core of the game on both the metagame front with favor/devotion, and the in-game flow with the addition of consequences.

Features
Favor Ranks

Added 7 favor ranks displayed on the main menu.

Each favor rank requires different amounts of Favor and Devotion(see below) to qualify to earn further favor. The degradation kink can now also interact with the naming of favor ranks.

Reduced favor gains across the board to compensate for the Devotion bonus (see below)

Each favor rank can grant you privileges with your succubus such as:

  • Unlock new favor requests.
  • Increase her Generosity (lowers cost of begging/mercy, increases chance of free favor reward, increases likelihood of rewards, increases likelihood of stripping.
  • Increase her Leniency (Increased chance to successfully beg and ask for mercy, increased chance to forgive your dedication missteps)
  • The Favorite rank includes a Favorite Session count to keep track of your score. (Note: Earn an exclusive discord role by reaching 30 sessions and DMing us with a screenshot!)
Devotion

Devotion is a new system designed to encourage engaging with the various systems the game has to offer to prove yourself to your succubus.

This system is designed to be 100% optional, and will not significantly impact your gameplay if you choose to ignore it.

Devotion now grants you a 10% favor gain bonus for every 100 devotion. This bonus is shown on the favor & devotion menu.

Note: The highest favor rank can be achieved without enabling all related options.

Devotion is gained by:

  • Playing often (bonus up to 124h since last session)
  • All collaring options
  • Chastity
  • Scheduling/Appointments
  • Various post-Oops options.
  • Her Choice Endings for both Reward and Punishments
  • Daily Training
  • Having 5+ Toys & Kinks
  • Having 3+ Habits, Commandments, Player Accesories, Player Outfits, Positions
Consequences

Consequences are a new core system built to create a future-proofed back end to provide more impactful outcomes to various events in the game like Spin The Wheel and now Deals. More systems are planned to support consequences, and consequences were designed to be easy to expand upon.

The current potential consequences in the game include:

Fog, Add Chastity, Denial and CEI (and now reset edge count) are part of a harsher consequence group that won't appear as often and are incompatible with themselves for wheel punishment purposes (for example, no Fog Fog Fog possibilities)

Deals

A new event occurring periodically offering you two potential consequences at once. It’s your choice if you want to accept it or decline it!

Spin The Wheel Rework

Now provides 3 different consequences. Taunting changes the outcomes, but adds one punishment slice.

Spin the wheel is now also a potential random punishment that gives 3 punishment consequences. This is only allowed to happen periodically.

  • Pet Noise status no longer allows gags.
  • New UI element to track favor and devotion on the main menu.
  • Added a check to prevent Energy Drain in chastity and Edge Counting session in Chastity if no touching chance > 0%
  • Added a check to skip the positioning event if punishment positions is on and her mood is good.
  • Taskmaster mode now skips the intro entirely.
  • Spin the Wheel consequences no longer immediately fade out upon clicking the spin button.
  • Smothering scenes & worship scenes can no longer have eye contact edging tasks.

Virtual Succubus 0.38 Patch Notes

Hello!

We have begun the gargantuan task of cleaning up the labyrinth of menus.
The new menus have an all new look and structure! This has been a very time-intensive process that will continue over the next few months. The entire structure of the menus has changed, so this may take some getting used to.
The goals with this rework were:
  • Make it easier to change your toggled content quickly by making everything more dense.
  • Re-frame the customization menus from a more immersive perspective.
  • Improve the aesthetics of the menus to match other elements like the logo.
Included in this update are also some long-requested features like difficulty progression and the ability to only use parts of your toggles for each session.
We’ve also added VS’s equivalent to achievements, bonding! One of the first bonds includes participating in a valentine’s day session, which now gives a very large favor bonus when completed.

Menu Rework Part 1

The main changes with this update are:
  • Customize has been entirely replaced by a new menu called Contract Terms. Modifying what your Succubus does in sessions is now framed as modifying your contract with her, and you will be expected to sign your new contract afterwards with a short animation upon exiting these menus. Contract terms contains 4 tabs: Toys, Kinks, Systems and Tweaks. In these tabs you’ll find various toggles, sliders, and submenus you can now easily access.
  • The Visuals menu has been renamed Shapeshifting. Most of the Visuals menus have been unchanged for now, as the visual toggles will require a much much bigger rework than was possible within the scope of this update.
  • Favor requests have been combined into a single menu, and Quickies are now a session type instead of a favor request.
  • Various other menus like Options, Credits, Training etc have been updated.
  • The glossary has been replaced with ? buttons that have been put all around the new menus to explain features and terms. While we understand that the glossary also included other information, from a design perspective we would rather have features that can be understood through their impact instead of through reading a glossary.
Min/Max Toys & Kinks use
In the new contract terms menu, you’ll find a new min/max slider for both Toys and Kinks alongside 2 checkboxes for each entry instead of one. A frequently requested feature has been the ability to limit your sessions to only include a few toys, and this is now the way to do that, extended to also include kinks.
You may now mark these toggles as either Available or Use. Use toggles will always be used in sessions, regardless of the sliders.
Available toggles will be selected as additional toggles for your sessions, randomly picked with a count between the min and max you set. Devotion rewards from toggles have been updated to scale directly with your number of available/use toggles and your min/max sliders. You will now get rewarded for every addition to the list.

Difficulty Progression
Some of the most frequent feedback over the last few years has been that sometimes the Succubus will give you unreasonable tasks very quickly into a session. We’ve added a new system to handle this that progressively opens more tasks to be given as you complete tasks of the following categories: Anal, Oral, and Pain.
At certain thresholds, you’ll be able to either beg or taunt these difficulty progression increases. Begging is the way to ask her to give you more time, while Taunting makes her skip the entire progression and go all-out.
When difficulty is increased with the new difficulty progression system, a short theme will be applied for a few tasks. Meaning that as soon as your difficulty is increased, you'll be given appropriate tasks. Taunting will have a much greater effect, making you do tasks of that category for many tasks.

Bonding
Virtual Succubus’s answer to achievements.
Bonds with your succubus are intended to represent long term commitment and the experiences you’ve shared with her. Future bonds will follow this formula, primarily rewarding for milestones and experiences enjoyed with your succubus.
Bonds reward permanent devotion and can give various minor rewards like access to names and adjectives.
The current bonds are:
  • Complete 30 sessions with the Favorite favor rank. (Unlocks the Favorite adjective)
  • Participate in a Valentine’s Day session with your Succubus. (Unlocks the Valentine sub name and Lovely adjective)
  • Complete 100/250/500/1000 sessions.
While the current list is limited, the infrastructure now exists to easily add more. We do want to keep it simple and immersive, focusing more on what should count as a milestone within this context.

Content
  • Added "Praise" toggle to Kinks. This will cause her to praise you after a successful task.
  • Added several SPH-related sub names.
  • Added "No Hair Changes". With this toggle, hair should no longer change mid-session as a result of outfit changes.
  • Added new potential theme (not themed session): Pain
Balance
  • Breathplay layers on timed tasks are now affected by breathplay difficulty
  • Added an extra large base bonus favor to sessions completed on Valentine's Day (300 base instead of 50 base, I recommend a long session!)

Update 42: Sudden Orders
Hi! You can view the Patch notes (and future updates)

This update had a few primary goals:

Address Feedback
Nearly two months ago, I asked you for feedback on where we’re at. We received a thousand surveys, and we’ve been doing our best go to through them, and proceeded to:
1 - Address it as best we can immediately in 42
2 - Write down potential plans and fixes to address issues you may have brought up.
3 - If neither of the above were immediately possible, we at least wrote down trends and concepts such as ‘’this feature is a problem because X’’, to be addressed with future design.
4 - Attempted to improve user confusion with certain areas of the game. A lot of the feedback related to things that were already possible - probably the most common one being the ability to disable edging, which used to be on a slider, but is now a simple toggle in the edging menu.

Update to the latest tools, improve workflows, get our shit together.
Look - full transparency, spending time on things like this usually isn’t super popular among customers. The first 3 years of this game’s development, the development cycle didn’t allow for the time needed. After we changed to a longer cycle, we decided to start by making some huge changes (39, 40, and 41) which had huge risks of breaking in various ways (and they did, and we had to take the time to fix that).
Now that we’ve completed the huge tasks relating to reworking how the core of the game works, we were able to take a step back and take the time to do this.
We updated from Unity 2019LTS to Unity 2022LTS, which has been a great boon both to error-fixing and general usability. We improved most of our workflows and methodology, and are generally far better organized and efficient now. We were also lucky to have external help with this, as upgrading unity 3 LTS versions is no joke.

The better workflow has been a great help after what has been a fairly challenging year in terms of bugs and complex work - After the last 3 versions, we were definitely closer to burnout than we should have been, and now things are sailing far more smoothly.


Elaborate on the work done over the last 3 updates.
The last 2 points may not apply to everyone, but this one will.
While the last 3 updates have been about reworking the core of how tasks function, this one is about improving what we made. We added several systems that should make each task more compelling, more varied, while also acknowledging the feedback that tasks can already get too complex for some - we want to add variety and depth without having her asking too much from you at the same time. It’ll take some tweaking as usual, so give us some feedback on the new flow!

Features

Task Improvements
  • Added Mini-Tasks.
    Mini-tasks are short, sudden, and relevant instructions that can be given to you during both timed and edge tasks.
    Mini-tasks can come in 3 forms, Metronome, Counted, and Edge.
    - Metronome is a short metronome-based instruction segment using a new UI element.
    - Counted is a short, low count, timed counted instruction. For example, ‘’stroke 20 times in the next 12 seconds’’.
    - Edge is a simple generic edge instruction that can be given at these times. She will only give you this instruction when your arousal is maxed and the task already involves pleasure, meaning that you can be expected to do it relatively quickly.
Dev Note: We can’t wait to see how many NNNs are failed by a mini-metronome after an edge. Good luck in november.

  • Added Side-Tasks.
    Side tasks are simple, no-layer variants of a list of easy to complete interactions such as penis stimulation, clit stimulation, CBT, etc. Anything that doesn’t require set-up, and can generally be completed at the same time as other tasks.
    Side-tasks can replace your primary instructions during a task or a mini-task. For example, you might be in the middle of an anal or pain task, and suddenly be told to stroke 20 times in the next 10 seconds.
    The rate of these is limited, so that each full task doesn’t become too random and themed segments feel like they’re appropriately focused.
Dev Note: The goals here are to both maintain arousal more consistently throughout non-stimulating tasks, and introduce simple variety into each longer task.

  • Added Orders
    Orders are a new list of short, easy to perform tasks or statuses that can be given to you throughout other tasks. Similar to urges, but more direct, and replacing your current prompt.
    The additions include:
    Drool, Hold Breath, Kegels, Eye Contact, Bark, Meow, Oink, Beg, Moan, Thank, Apologize, Whimper, Ahegao.

    For example, if enabled, you may be in the middle of a stroking task, and suddenly be ordered to hold your breath or bark. This is framed differently from urges, which are generally self-enabled. It will also not require any input on your part, and is assumed to be performed unless disobeyed.
Dev Note: We’re hoping to address both a lot of problems with urges, but also a lot of problems with things like breath-play here. Framing matters, and urges missed the target for some who prefer to *only* be specifically told what to do. It’s also much easier for us to add these, so feel free to suggest ideas!


  • She will now randomly pause during timed edges to throw you off. This will increase the timer appropriately for balance reasons.
  • ‘’Edge in exactly’’ prompts can now end in pauses or mini-tasks, meaning you can be brought close to the edge, then told to completely stop when you were expecting to keep going. Or told to keep doing the instruction regardless…
  • Timed tasks now show their timer far less frequently, unless they are short.
  • Punishment timed tasks now have a chance to be doubled in length, with a displayed timer and no task switches.
  • All other timed tasks now have a chance to be halved in length, with a displayed timer and no task switches.
Dev Note: The reasoning here is that timers are only especially compelling in two situations - when they’re almost done, or when they scare you. Timers still have a chance to be shown to you when either of those cases would happen, but in general, with the length of tasks, we ideally don’t want sessions to feel like a series of long timers - we want sessions to feel like a series of themed tasks with built-in variety and change.

  • There are two new types of ''switching categories'', one where the task will change and will alternate between pauses and tasks, and one where the task will be static and alternate between pauses and a single task.
Dev Note: Based on feedback, this is effectively trying to emulate the old RLGL behavior more closely.

  • Implemented in-task scene switches during timed tasks. This can happen as a replacement for task switches.
Dev Note: This should somewhat improve the situation of getting bored of the same static view during a task. In the future, when we expand on animations, having this in place should mean a much more compelling experience during each longer task.

Positioning improvements

Dev Note: We’re hoping this is the final state of the positioning system now. Ideally once in a while when we’re satisfied with systems, we want to focus on elaborating on their content widely as we have here.

  • We expanded the list of different positions very significantly, both simple and complex, some requiring furniture and some not.
  • Positions can now be marked as rewards or punishments. For example, you can set simple and easy positions to reward, while complex and uncomfortable ones can be punishments.
  • Position-giving no longer requires a scene switch, overall smoothing the flow of the game when they’re enabled.

Urge & Short-Term Statuses Improvements
Dev Note: There was a lot of feedback about urges. Some of it is addressed in the Orders section of Task Improvements, but there were other areas for improvement.

  • Urges now stay on screen for significantly less time.
  • Urges giving short term statuses now make icons appear. This includes Hold Breath, Eye Contact, Drool, and Kegels. These icons have multiple functionalities, between timers, the ability to disobey/fail, and for kegels even giving you instructions to flex and relax over a period of time.

  • Added special edging segments to ending teasing.
  • Split diaper interactions from ABDL
  • Added bonds for Locktober & No Nut November.
  • Added variants on edging that do not repeat or ride - This is to provide more noticeable variety and reduce predictability.

  • Added the ''Limited Safe Word'' toggle. This allows you to use the safe word once, and then further uses will instead immediately end the session.
  • Added ''Beginner CEI'' toggle. This makes CEI much much easier, with very minor instructions.
  • Added ''Random Strap On'' toggle (randomly will and will not have a strap on)
  • Added ''Single Application Status'' subtoggle. This allows you to set a status to only be applied once, and never removed (for example, plugs).
  • Added ''Disable Edging'' due to user confusion with the edging difficulty slider.
  • Added ''Inverted Buttons toggle.'' This swaps the positioning of negative and positive buttons.
  • Added ''Simple Ending Edging'' toggle. This makes ending edging into generic prompts.
  • Added Fisting to fingering interactions
  • Disabled high count counted tasks. We've pretty consistently seen feedback that these are no longer up to par to today's VS standards, and a better form of them has been implemented through mini-tasks.
Balance
  • Gooning now significantly increases the chance of worship scenes instead of guaranteeing them.
  • Reduced the chance she requests a new habit.
  • Prejac and Gooning are now compatible with Rhythm, Roleplay, and Positioning events.
  • Increased overall chance for begging to succeed.

Polish & Misc
  • Removed the text splitter graphical bar due to minitask additions. Heartbeats are now located on the bottom circle button.
  • Lengthened the duration of arousal popups.
  • Reworded some strings on the main menu to clarify how favor and devotion works.

Bugfixes
  • Due to the unity update, we fixed about minor 1800 set-up errors in our code that could have been causing various bugs.
  • Fixed a bug with Brown/blonde hair request.
  • Fixed some checks for Independent in the intro.
  • Added some missing skips for edge ride difficulty 0.
  • You will no longer get the session event to count edges during roleplay events as they have edges that are difficult to track.
  • Disabled safeword button during the intro and quickies as it will not work properly during those segments.
  • Added skip for message to take off chastity device if the status is set to permanent.
  • Added keybinds to Check In buttons
  • Fixed a bug with Punishment Commandments
  • Fixed bugs with toy renaming.
  • Check in should no longer immediately appear before the ending.
  • Favorite outfit can no longer be a consequence if there are no outfits favorited.
  • Layers should now appropriately check for task archetype.
