Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #1

Mako looks around, having no task to do, she fold the chessboard up and carries it under her arm, the bag holding the pieces jingling together in her other pocket as she walked towards the shuttle, deciding to do a little work on it with some parts she had found while rifling through her bag earlier...

Neither Laura nor Mako are fortunate enough to make much headway in their respective tasks.

Meanwhile, the battle in the cargo bay begins... creepy crawly tentacle aliens skitter through the passageways of crates, while the humans try to flush them out and kill them.

*dice roll results in 3 successes. The Humans must achieve 7 more successes to avoid having one of their NPCs killed by the Alien*

Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #1

There wasn't anything quite as sobering from her shock of the situation as hearing the scuttling of steps above them. Her stomach tightened in fear, making her feel even more sick, but the gravity of the it all prevented her from letting that take control. "We can't let it get out now! She looked to some of the more battle-ready members of their team, but knew they had to work together for this, her skills needed like anyone else.

The poor biologist still seemed hurt and it would take her time, as it would for all of them, to recover from the events. It was, perhaps, for the best that she stay behind as they all ran off to fight the creature. She gave a second parting glance as the always quiet girl walked off with her chessboard in hand, her eyes watering as she thought to herself, This is what we've all been given. What did we do to deserve this? She's never been guilty of anything, surely nothing worth what she's had to go through. Wiping her face, she took off behind the rest of the crew into the cargo bay.

-"Maria, did you notice anything strange?" : 3 auto successes, needs Cargomaster. Also put one success on the Override the Computer (Alien) task.

As Maria entered the cargohold, she heard a skittering just around a stack of crates, but then movement on the opposite side caught her attention. She looked that way just as a shadow, shaped vaguely like a dog, moved into cover within the maze of stacked boxes.

I'm playing:
-Disturbing Noises: Cancel 1 success
-Movement in the Shadows: Cancel 2 Successes

Managing to put herself together for the encounter at hand, as she was accustomed to doing in her chosen profession, Marlisse stayed alert, hoping to track the origins of the various noises and/or images that would briefly pass by. She came prepared this time, producing a pump-action shotgun from a silver case carried alongside her trademark bag, then cocking it and raising it in stance. The doctor still managed to stay close to the rest of the group, in a mild attempt to avoid being singled out by whatever lurked in the shadows.

~~~~~
Cards played:
-Shotgun : Roll 3d6
-"All I'm getting is static." : 2 auto successes, needs Communications
-"I know how this one ends." : 1 auto success, no skill req'd.
Shotgun nets 2 successes, so Dr. Marlisse's bravery has brought the Humans up to 9/10 successes. Anyone else?
Playing "Welcome to hell" (1 auto-success, requires tough), and Captain's Sidearm (roll 2d6) for good measure.
10/10 successes
(I will hold off on saying that Alk plays his 2d6 card and wait to hear if Tassadar will play further cards.)
A shriek echoed through the cargo bay, its point of origin indeterminate throughout the labyrinthine stacks of crates. Whatever it was, it so certainly neither human nor canine in nature.
I'm playing:
-Disturbing Noises: Cancel 1 success
Using a sidearm, Alk rolls 2d6 extra and gains 1 success, bringing the task back up to 10/10.
Shotgun and pistol blasts echo through the halls of the cargo bay as skittering shadows flicker in the muzzle flashes. In all the bustle, several crates fall over and spill their contents across the floor. At last Marlisse corners the scuttling monstrosity and empties two shells into the creature. It squeals loudly and then tries to escape up a wall. Halley ends this attempt short with a well aimed shot from her sidearm.
Maria ends the creature's misery with a massive stomp with her steel tipped boot. It provides a satisfying, yet sickly squishing sound.
Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #1
With the battle over, the remaining crew members take stock of what has happened. Numbly they congregate back in the recreation lounge.
"We should find out what's on those recordings. The ones you found in Outpost 31," Laura said, casting a meaningful glance at Marlisse. "It's clear that whatever we're facing right now is what caused all the destruction on the station. We need to know what happened. Maybe there'll be some clue as to how to stop this thing."
Mina bit her lip, then flicked a switch and powered up the holo projector. "Let's get to it then."
Re: Tentacles VS Humans Game #1
After the frightening ordeal, Marlisse slumps down into an empty spot on one of the lounge's many couches, her normally cool air now shaken a bit. She's busy looking downward at the backs of her hands, which grip her knees, as she's addressed by the Captain, and exhibits a delayed response before finally turning her gaze upward with a more determined look, in the hopes of not giving in to those nagging thoughts when things are making a turn for the worse.
"Oh, right. The tapes..." She draws them out from her bag and hands them to Mina. Afterwards, the doctor takes a deep breath and looks back at Laura, looking worried, if only for a second.
"Well, there WAS a dead one in the ship, but that damn dog... I think we need to find the medium through which it spreads. That is, the way that it got Riley... and Lulu..." she goes on.
With the threat cleared for now yet again, Faye allowed herself to calm down. Still, she didn't have enough confidence to set the safety of her gun on, going with the rest of the crew into the lounge with a prepared blaster.
Leaning back against the wall, the redhead pilot listened in to see what the people had planned, maintaining readiness if something decided to come a them again.
(Deck two, the hip new sensation that is sweeping the nation.)
Halley is still shaken, but the sheer anger she's been feeling has started to dwindle. "Hey...worse comes t'worst, we can just blow everything up, right? Especially if we get our comm relay and lifeboat back in order. I mean...most important thing is that Earth knows there's a threat out here, right?"
Mako leaves the shuttle to return to the lounge, scribbling down notes on top of the chessboard in a fury as she walked, muttering to herself as she wrote, "Missing battery... power coupling failure... hole in the engine... stabilizer's broken..." She shook her head in slight confusion as she looked over her notes, "It's as if someone's trying to build another ship... but that can't be right. There's no one here that would try to build ship... certainly not during these circumstances... right Lulu? No... there wouldn't be anyone doing that." Putting her pen away, Mako reached up for the lounge door release and pressed down on it, waiting for the doors to open so she could enter.
