The big bug and bigger dragoness hit the ground with more splash than solid ground should give. Neri spent a moment inspecting the omnipresent mud that now caked her front, some of her covered organs dimly glowing through it. Her curiosity left as she stood, though. With her legs positioned for best use of the swords that she didn’t actually have, Neri stared down her opponent. Odd, black fluid – or perhaps not fluid - seemed to leak from her body, her carapace expanding, thickening, covering her glowing organs; where she before been feminine (if alien), the Shadow Demon was now a living set of insectile armour and weaponry.

Having been swept into an arena once before Alex was far more prepared for her sudden drop into the new combat zone. She braced herself to land on hands and feet as she fell, but finding herself slightly sinking into a large pit of mud was the last thing she expected. She pulled herself free with a small bit of effort, and once she stood her entire front was covered in the mess, her loose shirt now clinging to her body. "Why am I not surprised..."

Whether or not she cared about the mud did not matter, however. Her opponent was quite ready to start things off, and the way her body seemed to grow its own set of armor made the woman look more like a giant insect than anything else. But if Alex was to be intimidated by that display she showed no sign of it. Instead she simply spread her limbs, and as her body started to anchor herself in the mud a noticeable wave of heat blew out of her body. The mud around her sizzled and hardened, and her entire form grew slightly as muscle and skin re-knit itself all across her frame. She had grown a full foot in height, and as she finished she lowered herself and practically hovered over mud that surrounded her. The scales on her back and sides had spread to leave far more of her humanity hidden save for the human features on her face and the outline of her more intimate areas. Beneath those scales the clear outline of tensed muscle could clearly be seen, and the way her tail started to sway back and forth behind her mirrored the almost predatory look in those slitted emerald eyes.

"Ready?" Instead of waiting for an answer Alex shot forward, her legs tearing free of the hardened mud and bringing her closer to the overgrown insect. Clawed hands extended from her sides as if she were preparing to rake over any exposed areas she could find in that buggy carapace, but those claws balled into a massive fist that shot forward to strike the creature dead center. If this woman wanted to test herself then Alex was going to put that armor to the test.

(OOC: No need to list the attack roll Termite, it's physically impossible for Alex to miss Neri even just using the dragoness's base attack bonus, and Neri has no way to buff her dodge.)

Until the dragoness underwent a battle-transformation of her own, Neri had seemed almost without life; but when the dragoness had grown to mirror her own bulk-up, there was a glint of interest in the demon's eye.

She gave no response to Alex's question, and stayed in a ready stance as the larger combatant came at her. When the feint came, Neri didn't flinch - and when the real attack came, she gave the exact same (lack-of) response, allowing Alex's scaled fist to crunch against part of her chest armour. Well, to say that she didn't act wasn't quite true... the moment Alex's fist landed, her opponent grabbed the hand that hit her, leaning her weight against the half-dragon's upper body. Recovering her wits after the blow, Neri immediately attempted to use the dragoness' larger frame against her, pulling the transformed woman's upper body to the left while sweeping a kick to the right, hoping to drop her to the ground. If she fell, Neri would allow herself to fall with the reptile, trying to keep her in the mud.

(Grapple attempt. I believe a grapple attempt uses an attack roll, in which case I need to roll a 3 or higher.)

From her position on the dragoness, Neri struggled to keep her down. Her opponent was obviously strong... but then, she possessed decent power of her own. Alex's transformation had not been as completely covering as Neri's, and that left the insect with a dark option to pursue. Rather than making a fist, Neri rose her whole forearm... and slammed it into her opponent's breasts. She was not above "fighting dirty" - not that she made any distinction between honorable and dishonorable attacks.

As her fist connected with the bug-woman Alex could feel the sheer force of her attack overcoming that protective shell to punch into the softer flesh it tried to protect, but it wasn't enough. The woman still held enough footing to take the dragon by her arm, and with two countering forces pulling her upper half away from her lower half Alex soon found herself landing with a mighty splat into the mud. Her opponent had thrown herself down to keep the mighty woman pinned, and the match now changed from straight attacks to wrestling.

With a surprisingly massive weight over her frame Alex started struggling as she saw an attack coming at her. Laying on her back in a gigantic puddle of mud was probably the worst position she could find for herself. That needed to be corrected. Her body twisted, her bulk put to use to try and leverage the insect to fall face first into the messy ground, and if that worked a hand would push that face further into the muck before the dragon pulled herself free and took a quick hop back. She was gonna have to play a little smarter if she was looking to win.

Her attempt to escape was successful, but that damned bitch forearmed her tits! It infuriated the dragon, and she briefly considered strengthening herself to her limit to teach that shadow bug a lesson in dealing with superior beings. But she held herself back, some degree of honor and fairness keeping her from squishing the insect under her heel. Instead she simply ran forward again, but this time she waited for the bug woman to make her move. Once that move was made Alex would twist herself around, her body doing its best to avoid being touched once again while her fist flew around from an unexpected angle and bashed against that shell once more.

(Well, it’s now impossible for Neri to hit Alex. Alex is still high enough in to-hit that she will still hit Neri most of the time, as long as she keeps putting 17 into dodge, either through defensive fighting or buffs, Neri can never hit her. She can armour up and she can fight defensively enough that alex will take many rounds or use some more of her buffs to kill her, but in the end Alex has to win. Unless the honourable flaw also works in a meta way, and requires that such cheap tactics can’t be used…?

Well, that’s speaking from a purely statistical standpoint, anyway. When RP is taken into consideration, the possibilities are more vague. For instance, statistically speaking Neri could dodge Alex’s attack by using full defensive fighting. Instead: )

Neri immediately attempted to attack the dragoness as she escaped the bug’s clutches, wanting to press her advantage. She was too hasty in doing so, perhaps; the dragoness backed off before Neri could reach her, and the Shadow Demon copped a wrist to the skull for her troubles. Alex was proving far more nimble than Neri had expected; her armour didn’t slow her down any more than her normal body did, but the reptile-woman was far more spry on her feet than the insect. Well, admittedly, Neri wasn’t trying too hard to avoid hits – even after taking her first lump, she blitzed forward, tackling the dragoness (and probably getting a second). The trick to fighting spry enemies usually relied on getting them held down, then beating the snot out of them while they flailed pointlessly against her. The woman she was facing now, though, was proving to be capable of fighting her grasp, and Nerzalil only hoped that she could have the strength to win.

((Well, if Neri and Alex just sit there and exchange blows then it's pretty obvious that Alex won't win. She just doesn't have the HP for it. So her thoughts are to avoid hits while dishing out her own. In a straight out fight she can do that by Fighting Defensively. But when Neri grabs her she loses her ability to dodge, so she's going to struggle to get out of that before she gets beat. So tactics for the battle will be...))

(Things have changed somewhat from the rules as at the initial creation of my post; before, I’m fairly sure that trying to start a grapple was a normal attack action with an attack roll, which meant that Neri had absolutely no way to buff herself and could not fight back in the slightest if alex so much as used full defensive fighting. Alex also used to have 43 body, so this let her get 23 points ahead of Neri with the added 20 from defensive fighting. That said, if Alex was to have played this purely strategically from the beginning, Neri would have had no way to win, even with the current grapple rules; all Alex has to do is use full defensive fighting, then activate any level of the Draconic Pride buff.
Alex has a higher EP pool to call upon and a skill that takes less EP, and gives more of a bonus than the only buff Neri can bring to the table. Neri would have to use Dark Armour to stand a chance of hitting the dragoness, causing a war of buff-escalation – but in the end, if Alex simply stays a bit ahead with draconic pride, Neri will run out of energy without getting a hit on her opponent. If Neri was to attempt a single powerful strike, the most she could put in to dark armour is 15 energy (and this would cause her to pass out immediately after her first attack); Alex could stop any such attempt from working simply by putting 12 energy into draconic pride. Once Neri has been run down to nothing more than level 2 Dark Armour at most, Alex would be free to put 3 points into Pride, giving her at least 6 dodge more than Neri can hit if she also uses full defensive fighting. Neri can fight defensively as well, of course, but Alex simply has to lower her defensive fighting to 15 to compensate. That gives her a 1/5 chance of hitting Neri each turn, even if the bug uses full defensive fighting…. And still 1 leave Alex with 1 point more dodge than Neri’s attack/grapple roll can physically reach. Putting 2 points into draconic transformation on top of that would just be insult to injury; one way or the other, Alex can get infinite free hits.

Still, the past is the past, and Alex still looks fairly likely to win anyway. Now that my own character sheet is updated, we can finish this fight. Tass, you can roll the remaining rounds at once if you want; Neri will attempt grapples when thrown off, and attack when Alex is in a grapple. Attack and attept grapple rolls are both 1d20 + 40, opposing a dodge of 60 or a grapple roll of 1d20 + 43, depending on whether the action is to grapple or attack.)
