"First things first: let's try to get some things working." You mutter, opening the airlock again. You climb up to the top of your ship, where the sensor array is located. You see the mapping system's main dish. You spend a few hours fiddling with the wires and the dish, but ultimately make no progress toward fixing it. Meanwhile, your headache gets worse and worse. With a frustrated sigh, you leave the dish alone and return to your ship.

With your headache worsening, you decide to use your medical systems to see what happened. You sit in the chair and press the "diagnose" button. The system grumbles and groans, then lowers a helmet around your head. Bright white light shines against your eyes, eliciting a groan of pain. You keep your eyes open, to allow the computer to check your pupils. But you certainly don't enjoy it. After a few minutes of discomfort, the computer gives an unsteady beep and declares: "You have a concussion, Ms. Marian. Take these pills with water, and get some rest." The machine spits out a small bottle. You pick it up, take a couple pills, and a swig of water from the sink. Almost immediately, the pain goes away, leaving your head completely clear. Out of habit, you thank the medical device, then leave the ship again. You glance up at the sun to see that it has sunk lower than you expected. "Only a few hours of daylight left. I should scout around here for a bit, see if I can find anything."

You check your weapons, then head out into the jungle. You walk for hardly 20 minutes before you see something dull and metallic in the distance. As you approach, you see that it is another crashed ship- an older model than yours, but still possibly useful. You break into a careless run, when something wraps around your ankle and brings you crashing to the ground! You turn the fall into an acrobatic roll, popping up immediately with your knife in your left hand. You see a group of three small, humanoid creatures, dressed immodestly and wielding knives which appear to be made of hull-metal. They jabber at you in a strange language. You don't understand the words, but the point is clear. You prepare for battle!

You emerge from your ship and immediately dive into a forward roll, narrowly avoiding a thick vine that slams down right by the airlock to your ship. You whirl around to see what looks like a massive tangle of weeds twisting your ship around. It seems more interested in your ship at the moment; not that that's necessarily a good thing. You switch to your laser pistol, taking a moment to appreciate the size of this thing. Your ship is nearly 40 feet long from end to end- this thing is at least that long again in height. You're honestly surprised it can support its weight that well; logically, it should collapse under its own weight. You suspect either this creature is not a single biomass, or it's not entirely natural.

You raise your laser pistol and pull the trigger. The gun whines loudly for a moment, then the laser bursts out with much more force than is normal! You flail from the surprise and blink wildly, trying to get the dark spot from the flash of light out of your vision. You don't see where the shot lands, but you do hear a slithering sound as the beast shifts its weight. You move blindly backwards until you hit a tree, seeing only the outline of the beast against the sun. You sense that it has largely abandoned your ship, but your distraction was not enough to keep it from continuing its attack on your ship. You hear some vines moving across the ground and leap away from the thing. You hear something hit the tree behind you; the tree groans under the assault and you can hear wood snapping. Your heart is in your chest, and your breathing is labored. You try to keep moving away from your ship, and hope (for some reason) the creature chases you.

Buzzdagger: A dagger with micro servos that allow it to vibrate extremely rapidly. This design is extremely quiet, but can slice through most armor easily. 1d4 melee + 10% crit chance. 2lbs
Ultralight armor: This low profile armor doesn't offer much protection, but it's difficult to tear and keeps your skin intact, plus it's easy to move in. Who can complain? +1 AC. 6lbs
Laser pistol: This weapon has been mostly replaced by the plasma pistol in most military operations. This particular design has a super focused beam so that it can more easily penetrate armor. 1d4 ranged + 10% crit chance. 2lbs
Concussion pills: Treats the effects of a concussion. You have 10/12 pills left.
Adrenal-Packs: Temporarily heals 10 HP. If target has fewer than 10 HP lost, all excess gets added on as bonus HP. You have 3.​

AN:
This encounter would ideally have come after we gained a level. Oh yeah, I should probably add XP in as a stat. It's just that we haven't ever succeeded at anything, and so have yet to gain XP.

I chose to have her try to attack the creature in order to distract it. The main difference between A and B in this case is that with B, she's trying to be more "hit and run"ish, whereas with A, she'd be standing her ground. Or at least, not trying to lead it away.

Rolls:
Climbing check! 1d20 - 2 = 17
Attack check! 1d20 -2 = 1! CRITICAL FAILURE!
Malfunction check! 1d20 = 10; gun malfunctions but doesn't break.
Grapple check! 1d20 = 8; failed
