B!

You blink rapidly, finally able to see again. The creature flicks a tentacle at you! You stumble backwards and avoid the strike! It strikes back the other way, and the vine smashes into the ground a few feet to your left! The creature waves its vines in apparent anger, and slams a thick vine down toward you! You manage to dodge the attack again, and pop up with an exhilarated grin. You raise your gun again, and fire at the creature! This time, you definitely hit it! The creature recoils from the hot laser, waving its "arms" in anger again. (97/100 HP) It moves toward you aggressively, leaving your ship behind! Success!

Suddenly, it occurs to you that you are now the sole target of aggression by a creature the size of a building and with the anger to match. You turn and start running toward the forest! You hear a movement behind you, and suddenly the sun is blocked out! You look up to see the creature sailing over your head. You cannot help but stop and gape as it flies overhead, looking almost graceful. It lands, crushing a tree and smashing into the tree line. It doesn't seem like the collision hurt it, but it's now between you and your escape route. If it had a voice, you're sure it would now be roaring at you. Instead, it rustles threateningly.

SNAP DECISION!
A. Attack this... thing!
B. Try to drive it away!
C. Give in, and hope sating its lusts will keep it from crushing your ship.
D. Run away, and abandon your ship to its fate.
E. Use an item. Like a healing item. For example.

Damage: 2d4 = 3!
Climbing check (for the boss): 1d20 -2 = 15; Success! It manages to launch itself overhead.

You raise your gun again, getting ready to fire upon the beast. Three vines whip out, trying to grab at you! You try to move out of the way, but suddenly your breath catches in your chest! You collapse onto your knees, gasping for breath painfully. One of the vines snakes around your leg and yanks you off the ground! You struggle against the vine, kicking at it with your free leg, but are entirely unable to get yourself free. You point your gun toward the center of the creature in desperation. You get a lucky shot off, blasting the creature. It barely seems to notice the blast. (95/100) You struggle further, trying to get your leg free. Another vine comes out and probes your crotch; fortunately, your armor is still intact, and the vine can't find its way into you.

SNAP DECISION!
You are grappled!
A. Attack!
B. Struggle to get free!
C. Give up, and hope the creature leaves when it's through with you.

You struggle wildly, but once again fail to break free! The creature shakes you, then swings you around and flings you away! You manage to roll with the landing and keep yourself from being broken against the ground, but you are scraped up and end up in a heap, hurting severely. Your vision swims as you look up. Fortunately for you, the creature appears to have lost interest in you again. It moves back toward your ship, and wraps it in vines again. You're not certain why it seems to be so fascinated with your ship, but you don't really feel like thinking about it at the moment. You try to force yourself to your feet, but your legs don't seem to be talking to your brain at the moment.

You hear metal rending, and see what was left of your sensor array torn away completely. You protest feebly- your gun arm doesn't seem to want to lift. Things seem dire.

SNAP DECISION!
Critical Warning! Your health is low!
A. Attack! Get that thing away from my ship!
B. Try to drive it away again!
C. It seemed curious about us earlier. Let's try offering our body to it! It might work....
D. You can't hope to defeat this thing. Let's just limp away while we're still alive (barely).
E. Use an item.

Damage: 1d4 - 2 = 1;
Dazed check: 1d20 = 10; you are dazed
Does the monster lose interest in you? Coin flip! Heads! The monster loses interest.
Attack on ship! 1d20 = 12; hit!
One system destroyed.

You struggle to your feet, then pull an adrenal-pack from your pocket and inject it into your upper arm. Immediately, the pain fades to background noise. When you come down from the high, you'll be regretting it, but for now.... You see only one option. You take your armor off and walk forward, spreading your arms wide to show your readiness. You call out to the creature, "Hey! Don't you want something more fun than that thing?" The creature show no sign of having heard or noticed you. You hear a rending sound, and one of the engines is torn off of your ship! The creature seems interested in the plasma leaking out of the severed reactor lines.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. You decide to get his attention in a little more direct way. You lift your laser and fire. Your shot hits the creature on its upper back, scoring a line of burnt vines across it! (91/100) The beast spasms, turns, and picks up the nearest object to throw at you! You are struck heavily against your unprotected chest by a large rock. You hear a sickening crunch as you fall backwards. You land heavily on your back, gasping for breath. You look down, and your blood runs cold. You can see a rib sticking out of your chest - it hasn't quite penetrated your skin, but it has deformed your ribs. You gasp for breath, unable to register what you're seeing. Suddenly, you hear a slam! You look away from your ribs in time to see a thick vine slam toward you. It slams down on you, but only hits a glancing blow. Another vine slaps you aside, sending you rolling against a tree. It occurs to you, as you lay at the base of the tree in an undignified, bloody, bruised, and broken heap, that maybe trying to seduce an apparently mindless monster with no apparent ability to hear or even feel desire is not a very smart option. You can feel your chest aching through the adrenaline. You decide this may be a... good time to... pass... out....

....................................................................
-Several Hours Later-
You awaken to the sound of your own screams. Your entire body feels like it's on fire. You grit your teeth, whimpering and crying through the pain, and straighten yourself out. What you see makes you want to cry even more.

Your ship. Your beautiful ship. It resembles a crumpled can, now. You can see, from where you lay, that the reactor had been completely breached. Already, the plasma that fuels the reactor is eating its way into the ground. The exterior of the ship is recognizable only because you knew there was a ship there. While it appears the interior hasn't been entirely crushed, you can tell your ships structural integrity has been completely compromised. It would never be space-worthy again. You are stranded here. Maybe forever. You lay on your back and cry.

-Some time later-
You grit your teeth and push against your jutting rib. With a scream of pain and a grunt of effort, you push it back into place. You lay on your back, panting in pain. You can see the sun going down over the horizon. You can stay here for tonight, but... your ship is dangerous to you now. You'll end up with radiation poisoning if you stay here too long. You hope that your medical systems are at least partially working- your injuries are too severe to leave untreated. You crawl over to the tree you woke up at and pull yourself up it. You are barely able to keep yourself steady as you walk over to where you had dropped your armor - what a foolish thing to do. You berate yourself again for your stupidity. You crouch down and gather your armor, then crawl toward your ship. You feel embarrassed by the fact that you can't even stand up. The airlock door on your ship is hanging off its track; it feels like a gargantuan effort to push it aside so that you can crawl inside. You collapse in the center of what was once the living space, and cry yourself to sleep.

-The Next Day-
You pull yourself onto the chair of your medical scanner. Your muscles are sore and stiff today, and you have to breath shallow breaths lest your ribs decide to knock you out again. You press the button, and the machine rattles to life. The light flows stutteringly over your body, beeping many times. The readout show many minor bruises, bumps, cuts and lumps. It also shows three major red spots: one in your ribs, one in your head, and one... on your uterus? "Ms. Krell, you are severely d-d-d-d-d-damaged. Your ribs are brok-k-ken; your c-c-c-concussion is progressing n-n-n-n-n-n-n-nicelyandyouappear toooooo be severely battered in general. More importantly, it appears your uterus has something within- it does not appear to be a pregnancy in any way m-m-m- ERROR FILE NOT FOUND Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz y records know of."

The machine beeps forlornly, spits out several bottles of pills, and then announces its battery is ruptured and the machine... stops. You reach out painfully and grab the pills. One bottle appears to be painkillers. Another is a single dose of Fixer-nans, and the third is full of a general panacea. You can only assume that the AI in the medical computer knows that you're not going to be around anymore. You take the Fixer, then the painkillers. The panacea goes into your pack with the rest of the painkillers. You grit your teeth and wait. Suddenly, your rib cage ripples, eliciting a groan, then a scream of pain. You feel the bones shifting under the surface of your skin, pressing back together, then searing white-hot as the bones knit back together. It lasts only a moment, but by the end you're panting like you ran a marathon. Painful, but better than being incapacitated. But... now what?

Choose 1. If D, write your action.
A. Try to find a new permanent camp or a settlement.
B. Salvage what you can from your ship before you leave.
C. Go to the ruins.
D. Other.

You currently have enough food for 1 day, and enough water for 1 day.

AN:
Well, that sucks.

But it's not the end! We can still do so much more to dear sweet Marian. Muahahahaha!
Disturbing:
Fun fact: If we were doing this as a permanent game over type game, this particular monster would have (depending on type of loss) either torn Marian limb from limb, then ended by pulling her head off, or it would have raped her repeatedly, then attempted to rape her with one of its thicker tentacles. Needless to say, while the human body is fairly elastic, it is not elastic enough to admit a tree trunk. It would have ended with Marian being internally torn apart, used as a seed receptacle, and eventually discarded like a filthy cumrag.
Unrelated: sometimes I worry if I'm disturbed. I don't think so, though. *creepy stare*

Rolls:
I made a few, but I accidentally deleted my record. I'll try to explain in plain English:
First, there was no way seduction was ever going to work. The Greater Shambling Horror has no ears; even if it did, it doesn't have a sex drive in the same way mammals do. It has two basic emotions: hunger, and anger. Its goal here was not to get at Marian's sweet juicy love basket; its goal was to get into her ship's reactor core. As such, were it my choice, I'd have had her run away. She's way underleveled to fight this thing. So, she decides to get its attention in the only way she's been able to: by shooting it.
It doesn't like that. It throws a rock. The rock fucks Marian's shit up. Her ribs break, she falls, then she gets smacked around some more. Those attacks did a total of 10 damage. Because of her adrenal-pack, she had 11 HP. However, because she lost so much HP in one go, I rolled a check to see if she passed out from the pain. Lucky her, she did.
When she used the medical device, I rolled there and got a 19. Which is good, because she really needs to be able to keep moving now. Being in such severe pain she can't function is less than ideal.

Oh well. It's brief prodding earlier suggested that 'distracting' it might have worked. Had it not been for that suggestion and had I known that it was a creature that couldn't be 'distracted', I'd have voted differently. As it was, I figured saving our only shelter and way off the planet was worth the attempt.

In any case, B, search what remains of the ship and salvage what we can for now.

Yeah, I'll admit, I kinda tried to mislead you. Ultimately, a lot of that battle was left up to chance. All of the creature's reactions were determined by hidden rolls. Which is why it acted so randomly at times: e.g., trying to rape Marian, then its very next action spent throwing her away. Ultimately, it was meant to be brainless; more a force of nature than an enemy. And yeah, it was worth the attempt. The last attack just went really badly. As did the first attack. And most attacks the creature made against us.

Our beautiful ship! I believe the phrase rhymes with 'clucking bell'.

Anyway, why not B then A, assuming that no more cosmic anvils descend from on high?

If I can only pick one then B.

Well, this has taken a dire turn. Went from "Leaving the Planet" to "Surviving on the Planet". I still have a bit of hope, though. She was asleep for 50 years... who knows!? There may be other, more advanced intelligent life on the planet or in those past 50 years her civilization (or someone else's) discovered it and a space-faring vessel remains!

Also, bit of something I've read elsewhere on this forum:

Roll a die now and then to see how something turns out. But don’t let a game system dictate how everything in the world goes.
I'm not saying this story has taken a turn for the worse, in fact, I'm glad to see the "obvious solution" ripped out from under us and have us left with no immediate objective. Adds a bit more unpredictability and hopelessness to the mix. However... if you, the author, ever think "Man, I wish the dice rolls had panned out differently", then you have every right to stick with it or change it. But as far as We: "The Players" go? Leave us out in the cold (Or the jungle) to face the challenges you put in our way!

ALSO: I've found myself coming back to this story multiple times in the past couple of days to see when there was a new update, so you've succeeded in wrapping me up in the story. The "Snap-Decision" mechanic also keeps thing pretty tense. Good on ya for that!

TL;DR: You're the author, not the dice. Loving the survival Sci-Fi story you got going on!

Re: The Unexplored Planet

B followed by A hopefully that other ship is useful in some way. The new goal of survival and maybe finding another ship still works, but having a boss like that was still pretty excessive, but I guess it works as long as the chance of something like that happening is like 1% or lower. Also we should prioritize finding food since we'll have enough supplies to go through between our ship an probably the other one.

You decide to try to salvage whatever you can from your ship before you leave. You start by stripping down the computer systems. Broken components, you set aside. Anything that works, you carry over to the table. You lay your laser pistol on the table and open it up. You replace the crystal with one from the medical station, rewire the power supply with some components from the ship's main computer, and add in a power regulator. With these upgrades, your laser fires two beams at once, has a higher damage, and is less erratic in damage. Of course, it could also explode or completely fail to work the next time you try to use it. But desperate times call for desperate measures.

You also weave a mesh of metal, and attach it to the outside of your armor. You hook up a small computer chip, and wire it to the metal. You can now attempt to shock an enemy that is grappling you- if you succeed, the enemy is stunned for a turn. You can only use this ability once per encounter. Other than your upgrades, you also gain some parts that could prove useful later. These include a few circuit boards, some wires, and a few power cells. All of which would be very useful if you can find something to use them on.

-Authorial Override-

With nothing else to do, you leave your ship behind and head out into the forest. Almost immediately, you notice that everything seems quiet. You hear no animal noises, and even the wind seems subdued. The effect makes you feel uneasy, but nothing jumps out to attempt to take you. You walk for hours, before your soreness and tiredness forces you to stop. You've found nothing. You slump at the bottom of a tree, depression threatening to overtake you. You take a moment to sort out your emotional state. It isn't good- you're homeless, you're possibly stranded on a backwater planet forever, and you were raped less than two days ago. You shudder slightly at that last thought. You'd been pushing it aside in your mind, trying not to think about it, but... ultimately, you were overwhelmed, used like a cheap whore, and left for dead. You barely hold back a racking sob, and curl up on yourself. Tears flow from your eyes unchecked, as the feelings you've experienced over the last few days threaten to overwhelm you.

"Why are you crying?"

The voice- female, innocent, and with an accent you can't place- startles you out of your reverie. You spring to your feet... then stumble against the tree, shaking hard. It seems your pain pills have worn off. You hold your knife in a shaking hand and face the speaker. You gape slightly at the girl's appearance. "Who... what are you?" you say shakily.

The girl smiles at you, her teeth white and pointed viciously and her vivid green eyes shining. She's wearing very little clothing: a loincloth, made out of a type of leather you cannot recognize, and a... you suppose it's a shirt by virtue of going on her upper body and ostensibly preserving some level of modesty. In practice, though, it amounts to a fairly wide strip of cloth, held up apparently by prayer and the girl's prodigious figure. Her green hair is framed by a feathered headdress- the plumage involved is extremely colorful. Surprisingly, she doesn't wear much jewelry; a pair of simple bracelets and a pair of plain, ring-style earrings. Her face is painted with red paint, in stripes that give her an exotic and fierce appearance. The weirdest part, though, is the pair of doglike ears popping out of her hair, and the coarse tail poking out around her side. As you examine her again, you notice that she appears to be slightly hairier than human normal. Her nose and mouth also appear to be slightly longer than human normal, almost muzzle like. As you look at her, holding a simple spear in a nonchalant hand, you come to the decision that this girl would be terrifying to fight.

"I am Kia, Warrior of Lazuf tribe. Who are you, Girl Who Cries Beneath Trees?"

You blink at her, then replay what she said in your mind. It occurs to you that there's no logical reason why you can understand her language. You blink at the girl again, then say, "I am Marian Krell. I... landed on this planet a few days ago and-" The girl cuts you off excitedly, her eyes flashing. "You come from the land beyond the sky?! You came with Sky Thunder and Falling Star?!" The girl grabs your hands excitedly. "Come with me! The Elder will want to speak with you!"

You protest weakly, but ultimately give in. The girl doesn't seem to be a threat to you (although you still wouldn't want to fight her), and if you can get shelter and food, even if just for the one day, it would be worth it. The girl points up into the tree you were slumped against. You climb the tree easily, and perch on the branch. The girl climbs up with a skill that makes you look like a bumbling novice. She waves to you, then bounds off, leaping from branch to branch! You gape slightly, amazed by the girl's simple grace and style. The fact that the movement flashed her bare ass at you certainly has nothing to do with it. You lean forward and begin leaping from branch to branch as well, fortunately managing to keep your footing. The girl looks back, then pauses for a moment and begins moving slower, more deliberately. You feel like you're being chided for your inexperience, and blush slightly.

Soon, your travels end. You see the girl grab a vine and drop out of the trees, without a moment of hesitation. You are not quite so graceful, or confident. You hesitate for a moment, then grab the vine and drop. You find yourself outside a wooden fence. The girl - Kia? - is nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, strong hands grab your waist and pull you behind the tree! You struggle for a moment, before you hear the girl hissing, "Shhhh!" You tense up, but take a deep breath and keep yourself from stabbing the girl in the hand. She snuffles slightly, and you realize the girl is... smelling you?! You turn and step away, looking confused. The girl snuffles again, tweaking her nose in puzzlement. "You smell like the Vines That Move And Crush, but you are... alive." You blink at her, then think for a moment. "You mean, that enormous plant monster? Yes. I was... lucky, I suppose." You turn your head away and wipe away tears that threaten to spill over. "It destroyed my ship - my home. I... I got away." You look up at the girl, who looks at you with concern for a moment, then pulls you into a hug. You stiffen for a moment, then return the hug hesitantly. "You are a strong warrior. You have faced the Vines That Move And Crush, and lived. Many cannot say same." She smiles at you, then sighs. "We will go into the village. The Elder will want to see you. The guards won't be happy. Stay close."

She walks out from behind the tree, with you following close behind. You hear leaves rustle, and turn to see a tall person disappearing from view. You look back at Kia, and swallow nervously. You find yourself wondering if you've made a mistake. Still, Kia leads you up to the closed gates. She enters into a heated discussion with the guard, who glares at you with what feels like real malice. You shy away slightly, trying not to appear threatening. Kia apparently wins the argument, and beckons you, pushing the guard aside. She leads you to the Elder's hut, which was larger than the other huts around. She turns and tells you to wait outside. She enters, leaving you alone. You feel eyes on you, and see many of the Lazuf peering around corners and out of huts at you. A child looks at you curiously, stepping forward before a matronly woman grabs the inquisitive child and pulls him away. You feel out of place, and you really wish Kia would hurry. As you think that, she emerges from the hut, and waves to call you in. She hisses instructions in your ear as she leads you up to the Elder's throne. You look up at the Elder; she looks ancient, and yet still impressive in both stature and strength. She looks down on you haughtily, and you avert your eyes and bow deeply, as Kia does the same. Kia presses down on your shoulder, indicating to you to kneel. You do so, feeling the eyes of the guards around the room on you. Kia and the Elder talk - you find it difficult to concentrate on their conversation. Your legs are starting to hurt, and the rest of your body is still pained.

"Marian, stand!" You jerk back to attention and stumble to your feet - you hear muffled snickers from around the room. The Elder looks down at you impassively. "Kia tells me you are from beyond the sky? Outsider, will you aid our people?" The Elder's voice is strong, and you feel like, despite her age, she is a pillar of strength to the Lazuf people. You look directly at her, and say....

Re: The Unexplored Planet

Good God that was a long post.
Speaking as someone who does a CYOA as well, it's very frustrating when you write for an hour and it comes out depressingly tiny. God knows how long that update took you (though it's pretty impressive!).

Anyway, Option A, playing it safe.

A, although clarification of how or what sort of help they want, and a request for food, shelter and safety seem like reasonable things to ask for in exchange (politely, of course), given our predicament.

Re: The Unexplored Planet

A we definitely need allies now and food. B would be good too but by agreeing to help first with A we could phrase it better, then both parties can explain what they need help with.
