Re: Project X: New update v5.8 released April 8th 2015
Let's be fair to both sides here:
Zeta, unlike a lot of patreons, can't be accused of stringing this game along for pay. There have been many missed updates, but as far as I remember, the next bit always did come out, and they weren't ever extremely behind (relative to other projects I see on these forums all the time). It seems the people who get into development are inaccurate about the amount of time it will take them to achieve each goal they set for themselves. I remember when even Eluku was getting flak for their constant updating, because it revealed too much of the game a little at a time and then people wanted longer periods of development between releases. The trouble with trying to listen to mass opinion is that it all becomes grouped under bigger umbrellas, and that mislabels what a lot of people want. So everyone saying something they wish they saw out of this game, over time, quickly becomes "demands" by the audience, which I don't think the majority are, though I do believe a good few do have to be whiny little bitches. However, for anyone who thinks that "You can't complain that someone is giving you something for free" should probably take the cross of their back and crucify themselves with it if they want to be a martyr so bad. If someone says they'll do something for you, even if it's a favor by them, and continually muck it up, that absolutely is worth telling them off for it. Anyone saying that seems like they're never had an unreliable person in their lives. I was practically raised on that shit and can tell you that, if you promise to do something for someone and you're not following through, you're fuckin em over.
Granted, I don't think this team has been "fucking anyone over," and I still hotly anticipate their further releases. The thing I expect of them is the same thing I expect of everyone, which is just basing their worth on their word. I know that indie H game developers are probably the worst crowd to want this from, but I just wish more were better at evaluating and managing their time. I don't care if they say they'll release updates weekly like Eluku, or if they announce they're starting a game that will be released in 3 years. If you're the one setting a deadline, just meet that deadline. Anyone that's reasonable will be fine with it, and anyone not fine with it is a knob and just shrug them off. In the meantime, just do what you do.
And for anyone else reading this, civility seems to have disappeared a little bit from this discussion, so I'm ashamed to say that, on this topic, I'll have the final say. Anything further will be about game content. Please continue as you will
