Maybe there ought to be an attraction check to see which PC the eligible NPCs fall for. PCs though get to decide how much they have the hots for one another.

Well, as far as bailing from the adventure, the mists already have them.

I'm not sure I'd want to railroad your pirate too much though, once inside Barovia proper. I would count on common sense and survival instinct to make Rovana realize that going out on her own, even in the daytime is a bad move. It may not be obvious at this point, but hopefully fairly soon it would become evident. Everywhere is dangerous and there is no escape. No escape. No. Escape.

But if she wants to go to Castle Ravenloft right away, I'm not going to stop her.

EDIT: And I'd maybe mainly use Charisma too for something like that. Although some characters might prefer Intellgence, Constitution or Strength as a secondary trait. Fun with formulas.
