To Kill a Cat (Dreana)

Shadowcat had been to Artmirst periodically over the last two years, finding the hunting there to be the most profitable without being asked to specifically look for someone. She had a buyer in the Necropolis who took the valuable parts of whatever demons she managed to kill, and she managed to net herself a pretty penny whenever she made the trip to the demon infested town. She was on such a trip now, having been there for a few days without running into a single creature that had parts worth taking.

That was, until now, when a trio of stalkers, demons with skin that was normally gray, but could shift in color to help them blend in with their surroundings, decided to come to 'visit' her in a ruined old house that she'd been sleeping in. Shadowcat watched them as they crept through the door and came toward where she lay, feigning sleep. The closest of them was still on the opposite side of the room, ten feet away from her makeshift bed. She could get up and rush them now, or wait and try to catch the demons off guard when they pounced on her.

*The hunting trips were a new easy source without having to deal with to many people. And another wonderful trip of bloodshed lay ahead of her if she could catch any suitable prey but it seems they came to her today no hunting needed. As they closed in she knew she could catch them off-guard even at the distance they were at now. from laying to rushing she would speed her way to the leading stalked to take him by surprise leading with a lunge for the demons throat with claws seeking to pierce deep in their first strike*

The three demons prepare for her as Shadowcat jumps up and rushes at them, but the one she attacks is helpless to prevent her claws from tearing at its throat. Blood erupts from the wounds at its neck, painting the demons front red as it flows down to the floor. The creature didn't fall, however, and managed a half-hearted retaliatory attack which Shadowcat dodged so easily that it was almost embarrassing. Its companions fared no better, other than to force Shadowcat back a step. Now, she was in the center of the room, with plenty of room to maneuver, while the demons were still bunched up around the door. So far, things were going extremely well for her, and unless more enemies arrived to attack her, it was likely that she'd mop these three up in short order.

*with the element of surprise long to the past she grinned as she wiggled blood overed claws at the demons. She would settle back into a defensive stance weaving back and forth some before strike out again seeking to injure further or finish off the one she had already attacked with a deft slash of her claws coming from both sides inwards at the demon and then back out agin in a raking motion as if flaying his skin apart in different directions before setting back in the same bobbing and weaving upon her feat keeping on a defensive posture from that point*

Her next attack took out the eyes of the creature she'd initially injured, and it fell to the ground in a bloody heap. Her dodging and weaving kept the other two demons from being able to move further into the room and encircle Shadowcat. Their counterattacks were awkward and laughably easy for her to avoid.

*Smiling to herself she noted again why she kept coming back here for her hunting trips. She decided to maintain her defensive posture and struck out once more ringing a claw low and up to try and slice the next demon from gut to chin with her claws before shifting back once more waiting to avoid their clumsy advances*

"come on now..this must be the worst sneak attack i ahve ever seen..your already down one..and i havnt been hit yet...show me what is supposed to make you beasts so fearsome"

Shadowcats claws drew bloody red lines up one of the demons bodies, causing the creature to fumble even worse than usual in its attempted counterattack. The other demon hissed at her, once more swiping ineffectually at her with its own claws.

*Stepping back grinning almost ear to ear she felt this one on its last legs and lept back in after their pathetic attacks this time claws sought to sink into the chest of the wounded demon as if trying to rip the pectoral muscles right off its chest both sets of claws trying to sink as deep as possible before ripping away flesh. After such she would shift back putting some distance between herself and the other demon maintaining her defensive stance once more*

"as the saying goes 2 is company..3 is a crowd..if its just me and you who knows what can happen!"

Her claws take the fight out of a second stalker, who slumps to the floor with blood flowing from multiple wounds on its chest. The wooden floor was beginning to become slippery with demons blood, but the demon was clearly more bothered by it than Shadowcat. It stumbles into its next attack, missing her badly, and leaving him overextended and vulnerable to her counter.

*With the blood spattering upon the floor more and more from the battle she figured perhaps time to step off for a moment. The stalker and his wild swing at air would give her the chance she needed to get off the floor. Jumping at the opportunity per se she would leap for its back using claws to sink into flesh to hold herself stable and through the ebats pain she would give a teasing purr before sinking those sharp teeth of hers into the side of its neck tearing away and hoping to spill even more blood*

I'm just going to fast forward this to the end, he's dead next round anyway.
Gain 2 exp. You'd have gotten more if they'd been enemies that stood a chance against you.

The battle went much the same as before, Shadowcats claws easily cutting into the demons flesh, and despite the fact that she'd dropped her more defensive stance, the stalkers return strike was still laughably easy for her to avoid. Then, she lunges forward, and her teeth sink into the demons neck, just as she'd desired, and out came his throat, along with a fountain of blood. The last of the demons falls before her, leaving her alone in her sanctuary, save for the one who lay on the floor, too badly wounded to continue fighting.

*the battle was over and all were dead save one. Shadowcat stepped lightly over to the final demon laying there so helplessly and stepped one foot over it. She stared down at the demon with sadistic glee almost before slowly moving to her knees straddling the demon.*

"One could call your performance utterly pathetic....too bad. Had you been worth my time you mighta walked away...but as I said too bad"

*reaching one hand down to the demons throat she would squeezelightly at first then harder and harder as the seconds passed. She would only let go once she strangled the demon of its last breaths. With her buisness here done with these rude demons marching into her place of rest she would ascend the build to it highest point she could reach and from there start scouting about the c in closest proximity to her location*

The demon struggled weakly in her arms, but pain and blood loss meant that it could do little to prevent Shadowcat from squeezing the life out of it. After a minute it slumped limply in her grasp, and she swiftly felt the life leave the demon. She knew that the skins of these creatures sold fairly well, so she could take them for sale if she liked.

She was on the top floor of the house she'd taken shelter in, but she could climb out the window and try to get to the roof. The walls were badly damaged enough, and her claws sharp enough that the trip shouldn't be too difficult. From there, she could look either way down the street, and possibly jump from roof to roof rather than going down the street.

*Shadowcat would climb her way to the roof and look down the streets for signs of anything else moving about that might disturb her or interest her in its presence. After scouting about for a few minutes from the roof she would return to the dead demons to skin them if nothing had presented itself before then*

On top of the roof, Shadowcat could peer down the empty street in either direction. It remained devoid of life for several minutes, and eventually Shadowcat climbed back down into the room where she'd been sleeping. The three demons part with sizable portions of their skin after about half an hour of work, leaving her with a trio of gray demon skins, ready to be sold. The day was young yet, and many other creatures were within the town, though none seemed to be within the immediate area. She'd have to go hunting if she wanted more, and she knew that the docks and the industrial district had the greatest concentrations of demons, giving her two good choices, though she could look through the residential areas as well, which had the added bonus that occasionally valuable salvage could be found hidden within the homes.

*packing away the three skins somewhere hidden she would then proceed to drag the remnants of the corpses anywhere she felt they would be considered disposed of. After thtat Shadowcat made for the shadows and began sneaking a course to the residential district. Demons,easy valuables, and even other potential scavengers she could hunt down made the residential district sound just right.*

Shadowcat pushed the skinned corpses out of the window, leaving them to rot in the street. The trip to the residential district only took about an hour and a half, as she remained silent and hidden the whole way. She didn't spot anything worth going after, at least not until she reached the intersection at which a large mansion stood. It was surrounded by a ten foot stone wall, but the gate seemed to have been repaired recently, and it was closed off. The wall was in good enough shape that it couldn't be easily climbed over, and it was topped with a rusty iron spiked fence to boot. There was a back entrance that looked like she might be able to get it open, a moldy oak door that was set into the wall. Alternatively, there was a ledge overhanging from an adjacent building that was fairly close to a shed in the corner of the rear courtyard. She could also always try the main gate, or simply move on to other prospects.

*she probably would have simply overlooked the mansion and continued on her way without a second thought had she not noticed the recent repairs. that made her brain start churning at the idea of what someone would want to keep protected inside. An evil grin spreading upon her lips she would make her way stealthily to that adjacent building and then begin to watch this mansion for signs of whoever might be within it. She didnt want to jump into such a large building blindly if she could help it.*

Shadowcat waited for over twenty minutes before she spotted any movement within the mansion. A figure moved past a window on the third floor, the first sign of life she'd seen in the large building. After another few moments, several more figures moved past the same window, and then past the next, and then the next. After perhaps ten minutes, one of the rear doors opened, and Shadowcat crouched atop the small building, watching as six men exited. They were each armed with guns and short swords, and wore leather armor that looked like it was in fairly good shape. They talked quietly among themselves, too far for Shadowcat to make out any of the words. After another ten minutes, they went over to the door that was chained shut. One of them stood next to it for several moments, and then it swung open. The men left, staying together and looking in every direction, but left the back door open. they headed in the direction of the street that was away from Shadowcat, and if she didn't pursue them, they would be out of sight shortly.

*staying ever so still and watching the six men as they soon left the compound she watched them stil as they moved along down the street and when she felt they were out of sight she made her move. She would begin making her way to that open back door using the roof of this building to clear the fence and drop down inside the iron fence and head for that back door. Once she reached the door she would become cautious and sneaky once more entering it ever so slowly while remaining alert for any kind of traps or defenses the men may have left. She would enter this mansion and let her search begin heading for the third floor first in order to try and find where they made camp within this large building.*
