What is Patreon doing?

Hello to all.

It 's my impression, or Patreon to narrow even more the conditions for adult content, I heard that many artists have complained about this, and who have suffered a decline in their earnings, it is said that some close their Patreon or going elsewhere.
I do not know if it's true, they're voices I've heard, but if anyone knows anything, could you explain the details?
Although I have a half-idea why (I do not say it otherwise I would do a book).

Personally, I'm not sorry, but I do not share this decision with Patreon.
That's why some games need patches.

All I know they banned bestiality and incest, which is honestly pure bullshit considering how much games feature those fetishes. Devs lose a lot of progress and time trying to cut that content from games. Also if adult patreons don't show up what's the point in banning it at all? Are there some US laws that have been implemented in the past 3-4 months?
 
I do not think, because it violates an amendment, even if I'm not American, even if it is true they would say no?
 
To my knowledge, there are no federal laws against incest or bestiality in the US. There are, however, 50 different -state- laws, and when you have an online entity, which does business in all 50 states, you have to conform to the -harshest- law.
 
To be honest Patreon didn't have any problems until Paypal was implemented then suddenly everything went to hell. Paypal has a NO porn or adult stance so Patreon had to suddenly turn into a "clean" website. But to be fair they only seem to be attacking those with "public" pics and demos as to keep underage persons from seeing it. (To appease Paypal I suppose.)
 
Patreon is ghetto, they implemented the new guidelines n shit and a bunch of game devs who had run or rape elements screeched in terror n fucked shit up. But in reality shit didn't happen unless besides the incest shit. The new guidelines are stupid, but the CC companies are censoring so even patreon gets cucked.
 
Patreon waved a blind eye about this stuff when they were a smaller company. Now they're pretty big and pretty profitable, and that means that a) law enforcement takes notice, and b) Patreon suddenly has a lot to lose. In addition, I think there exists some state law holds company directors personally liable, and in that case they really have to get their act together (different domain, but if people recall this happened to one of the directors of Volkswagen in relation to the Dieselgate fiasco. I'm not a lawyer so I have no idea if this could apply here).

Basically a small company might choose to look the other way when they have few resources, but once they become a bigger company with more attention directed to them they'll hire lawyers to make sure they're compliant because if they don't, the company risks high fines and/or having it's leaders imprisoned. It might annoy some people, but them's the breaks.
 
So, just from my experience, literally all that has changed is that the content creators are using censored images on their update posts now, and most posts aren't really visible unless you're pledging. That's it. I can still click the mega link they post and get what I'm expecting, 100% as it was intended. Doesn't matter if it's a game or an SFM loop or whatever. Pretty much nothing has really changed as far as the actual content goes. Just the stuff that's in-between me and the content.

Basically what's happening is Patreon is cracking down on ANY public image that could be considered even slightly NSFW of a sexual kind (not sure about violence, blood, guts, etc) - so any images which show nudity, sexuality, sexual innuendo's, etc as well as the public text discussing things like what a game's genre / fetish is. Yep, just saying that your game has gay/bi/big-boobs/lil-boobs/gangbang/etc fetish is enough to cross Patreon's new guidelines.

Quite a few Patreons I follow, support, know have had their patreons suspended till they removed all graphical images from public view, removed all mention of sexual fetish's from the description, and basically turned their patreon page into a "G" rated "child friendly" experience... and only after doing this was their patreon unsuspended and allowed to continue.

Although it seems so far that links to game files, game metarial, etc are still ok in public viewing.... as long as the link doesn't contain/say anything non "G" rated. Who knows how long till Patreon decides that even links to "adult" content is also a no-no.
 
The only change so far was removal of NSFW content from public posts. If they decide someday to remove porn altogether from Patreon, im sure most creators will find a decent alternative.
 
Sorry if I was not there, I woke up now, I'm still happy that I made my post interesting is something to think about.
However it is likely that in the long run, most of the artists will go elsewhere, not just these game-h artists, but also the normal ones (musicians, indie games, etc ...), but for something else like violence, ucronie , postapocaliptic, etc ... (what I've heard, but I'm not sure).
 
They didn't crack down on these fetishes just to spite people but to avoid future legal troubles where someone could just go "hol up are you really allowing people to make money by making illegal content?". There is high possibility that no one would complain but it's simple failsafe. It's not uncommon for companies to try and distance themselves from such delicate topics. It's done because it's less hassle to cut the discussion short beforehand than explain yourself later. Personally i dont think artists will move elsewhere, they'll just keep releasing patches on their discords.
 
As I said before, I do not share any form of censorship, do not flatter me, the rules must be respected, but there is a difference between the fictitious and the reality, but do the same false moralism to make success, also for me are throwing petrol on the fire, other than "protection".
 
Since when is fictional incest, bestiality or rape illegal? Anyone watched Game of Thrones? Or read the Books? Those even feature underage content. Maybe people also dont know about bestiality books on Amazon. Or watched movies with rape in them. Patreon even said they would basically allow Game of Thrones and such. And theres tons of incest roleplay on Porn websites where they dont put any disclaimer about it being roleplay. Not to forget, drug use, theft, murder is also illegal, but games still feature it.

Laws are not the factor here. Its the money, and the public view/bad press that Paypal probably does not want, so they probably said to a platform that has adult content (which Paypal already does not allow) they would have to tone it down.

And about nothing happening, quite few developers did censor themselves already, and others outright said they wouldnt even try to start a project now. Others got suspended and were asked to even change ingame content. So far the anonymous patch route works, via Lewdpatcher for example. But sharing patches on their discord also does not work, since they monitor those as they say its a connected feature which Supporters can access, therefore it falls under something they look at.
 
I agree with you.
However, it has always been so, when one becomes famous to avoid annoyances of the "moralists" they do the wrong things and useless example YouTube.
But there is an alternative.

^ this. Anything with noncon (rape), "bestiality", or "incest" (taking the widest possible definition of those terms) is now forbidden to be associated with a patreon in any way. Creators have been told to remove such content from their games, and/or take down artwork that contained it. They can't even host that kind of content off-site, if they link to their patreon from a site that contains their "objectionable" material, they still get shut down. And as Delmach1 said, not even Discord is a safe place to release that kind of content. If any are still getting away with it, it is simply because they have not been caught yet.

In addition to that, public posts have to be PG-rated, but that's actually always been a rule, they are just enforcing it more strongly now.
