Re: PbP Interest Check

Teaser for version 2: I've looked over this thread, and I'd like people whom I haven't talked to about it to know a few things.

1) Magic is getting changed significantly, so that it is less complex, and the "glass cannon" idea, as thetwo so effectively put it, is made a bit more prevalent. To that end, the spell system is getting a complete revamp, though it will still be similar to the original DG system.

2) Not only is magic getting changed, but I'm adding something somewhat similar to spells and powers to warrior classes in the form of "Skills." Sort of like powers that, instead of directly adding things, you can trade certain penalties for bonuses. Each skill will also have requirements that have to be met before it can be taken. A few choice examples:
Called Shot{Activated}: When using a ranged weapon, you can take a -15 penalty to your to-hit to inflict double damage on the target if your attack hits. Requires: Body 20+.
Sudden Strike{Activated}: You can wait until the end of the round to make your attack, and take -10 on your to-hit and Dodge for that round, at which point you will make a Stealth check at -10. If you succeed, the attack for that round counts as a sneak attack. Requires: Stealth AND (Dueling OR Two Weapon Fighter.)
Shield Slam{Activated}: You can forsake your normal attack for this round to make only a Shield Bash, which, if it hits, causes your target to be knocked prone unless they win an opposed Body check against you. Your shield bash also does an additional 4 damage. Requires: Shield Fighter.
Wise Fighter: You can use your Mind in place of your Body stat to determine how much damage you deal on a successfully hit. Requires: Mind 20+.

Note that these are likely to change, as I'm planning on balancing them all before I even think about starting any type of play testing. A lot of the numbers are likely to drop, for one thing.

3) Spirit is what is getting changed the least, since all I'm really doing is balancing the powers against one another, and adding a few more.

4) I've added a few races, and changed the old ones. I've also changed/added Flaws, Talents, and a few game mechanics. All in all, I'm trying to make as many aspects of the system less complicated and awkward as possible. I've also tried to make a lot of things more specific.

Re: PbP Interest Check

A small notice: I've decided that I'm going to be keeping most rolls invisible form now on. It should save me a bit of time when I'm doing posts.

Re: PbP Interest Check

I've not dropped out, Im just limited to how much I can get on from now on, and it is difficult for me to get in the right frame of mind for writing some aspects (sex) in public especially since I don't want any unnecessary trouble.

Re: PbP Interest Check

A quick notice, I might not be able to post much more, if at all, this week. It's my birthday, and I've got relatives over, along with a few inconvenient personal issues.

Good news everyone! The DG2 rules are more or less all finished. I'll post them in a new thread when I get around to it, and I might open up a brief playtest shortly after that. Don't worry though, this game is going to keep going until people get sick of it or it's finished.

The rules are up. Now let the nit-picking begin.

Re: PbP Interest Check

Woo DG2! I don't have much time at the moment, so I haven't looked at the numbers at all. I'm sure I'll be back for more later. :p

Nit-picking:

Do you want us to do that here, or will you be making a thread?

"TP = Tearing points. How much damage your armor can take before it falls apart on you and you need to repair or abandon it. Resets whenever you " - Whenever you what?

Particularly good points:

Obviously you've included most of the improvements made to the original DG, and haven't massively changed any fundamental principles.

<3 blast shapes. Keeping track of damages that were different for every spell was a pain.

Questions:

Firstly, do you actually want magic users to list each individual spell they are able to cast, or do you mean more like "Fire 1-5, Water 1-5, All 1-3" (for someone who took two focuses and practiced mage).

Secondly, I assume we're still free to suggest spells? But perhaps that we're not intended to be able to improvise "fire damage level 3, cone shape" just because we run into a bunch of fire-weak enemies coming at us in the shape of a cone (or in other words, mostly utility spells).

Re: PbP Interest Check

Is this DG2.0? or something different? Either way interest may be shown here.

Re: PbP Interest Check

I may design a character for this. I'll probably get to that after I finish working on something different.

I'll be remaking my character for 2.0. Feel free to lock my 1.0 thread.

Do we need to do anything, or have you converted all our sheets yourself?

Re: PbP Interest Check

Just glancing over the system passingly, haven't given it a great deal of review yet, but quick question: Is there some adjustment for spell level being cast on damage, or is that already taken care of by secondary effects of spells?

I'm just noticing you have multiple levels of heal in your body category, hence the question.
(sorry if stupid question, as I said, I was reading quickly, and may have missed it.)

I'll probably make a character for 2.0, and I have a question!

The formula for spells is [spell level-1]x2, so does that make 1st level stuff free to cast?

Quick clarification, is this going to be forum or chat based?

You don't have to convert your sheets. I'm sticking with the 1.0 rules until the first games story finishes just to make things easier on me.

Yes, spell damage is multiplied by spell level. So a 4th level spell deals 4 times as much damage.

Forum, just like the 1st game.

I'm still going to be using the 1.0 rules for a while, and I haven't decided how I'd like to deal with converting old characters yet. If you want, you can wait, but the next game won't start for a little while yet.

Nit picking here is just fine. And it looks like I somehow forgot to finish writing that part. It's all fixed now. Listing the elements should be fine, but you can list all the spells you can cast if you really want to. And yes, I'm going to limit suggestions to utility spells unless someone makes a very strong case.
