Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Yeah, the empire has recruitment and training centers for stormtroopers. They kind of have to since they give the guys plastic armor and rely on "moar dakka" on an infantry level for combat superiority.

Anyway, yeah they said they were throwing out the EU beyond episode 6. Honestly I don't see a way they could do another 3 movies without having done that. The EU went EVERYWHERE, even multiple generations after the movies and that really leaves no space for anyone to tell a story without basically copy & pasting the book as the screenplay. Plus then you get all the rabid fans that wig out over any artistic license.

As it is now, the only thing that HAS to happen (being that it's heavily implied during the movies that it will) is Skywalker rebuilding the Jedi in some form or fashion, everything else is up in the air. And to me, that's what makes this exciting.

Arguably, if they did a movie focused on the Old Republic era, they'd have to do that minus the big issues, sadly. The Star Wars Expanded Universe went to town EVERYWHERE in the universe, which is cool considering the license, but not as cool if you want to condense a period or area in particular to 90 minutes.

I know there was a lot of people who hoped we'd see Thrawn in the movies, but no such luck, I guess.

They can say they are throwing it out but the ideas will never die. Don't really care much about Thrawn, but Mara Jade was one of my heroes growing up.

She is supposedly in the movies at some point, not a major player but still there so they can't write her OUT. I love Mara Jade too and will be a little disappointed if she doesn't appear.

Ooo, that would be pretty cool even if a cameo. I hope she's a badass.

I guess ...technically, she also appeared in a short story in the "Tales from Jabba's Palace" anthology. That took place some time between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. So she did exist in the world before the end of Episode 6. I'm not sure they are smart enough to think that in depth about it though. (omg geekometer just hit 9000...) Timothy Zahn characters and stories are amazing. They were my favorites from the EU-verse.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I must admit that I'm really quite partial to many of the stories detailing the remains of the Galactic Empire, and how they end up as petty warlords or evolve into new polities. Stuff like the Pentastar Alliance, Deep Core Strongholds, Imperial Remnant and so on. For some reason I like seeing that kind of pseudo-real politics get into my idealistic science fantasy. :p

Oh, and I do like how later on the Imperial Remnant evolves into something a bit more... "humane" and tolerant, with Palleon and Fel and so on. The whole "victory without war" stuff is pretty cool, and you even get to see non-humanoid stormtroopers and Imperial knights as "grey side" force-wielders essentially. I mean, they're still an authoritarian regime, but not full on space nazis.

I know this thread is called random 'movie' talky stuff, but bear with me. The first episode of 'ash vs. evil dead' is life. I am 01:35 minutes in and Ohh Yeaaah, I'm loving it...:p

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

As a fan of the original Evil Dead stuff, particularly Army of Darkness, I've gotta agree for the most part. However, Sam Raimi still makes annoying mistakes despite having made a lot of improvements as a director, but there are times when I wish he would do better.
Like the native indian guy(I think?) deciding to immediately and effortlessly pull the knife out of his shoulder, AFTER the danger has ended, rather than when the girl he supposedly idolizes is about to have her eyes gouged out, to be followed up by an easy quick backstab, or even just an attempt that can be brushed off by the evil's super-backhand. Instead, of course he gets pinned there uselessly and stands there for a full five seconds not even trying to free himself going, "Hefe, help..." Dafuq. Show some consistency, I know you're a b-movie "legend" Raimi, but you could try bring in just the good parts of the cheese, and leave the terribly noticeable plot-holes behind while you're at it.
He seems to treat support characters like they have no agency, as long as Bruce is in the scene. Don't get me wrong, Ash is badass supreme, even as a disturbingly womanizing creepfest at that, but come on Raimi.

Aside from those complaints, I'm really excited for the upcoming episodes.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Well, the easiest way to refute this is: it takes far too much effort to explain. Remember we're dealing with hollywood, even their "Major plot twists" have an absurd amount of easily detected foreshadowing. Jar Jar as a villain takes at least half an hour of material to make a plausible case, whereas Jar Jar as an idiot took what, 5 Minutes of screen-time?

As far as Disney trying to redeem the prequels... why try to save a sinking ship? Their other clone-wars era material is being received just fine, so trying to save something that was so toxic to the series' overall popularity seems like a very risky move. Given that all they really have to do is not have a retarded comic relief character and they'll surpass the prequels in popularity easily.

On another note: Saw an ad for star-wars makeup. Died a little inside. Why are you trying to ruin a galaxy far far away for me? I don't care that it's a makeup add. I care that it's retarded avante-garde fashion bullshit. This is not the Star-Wars target audience, and you're not convincing them to come see it. Why? Because it's NERD stuff and they're too popular for THAT.

I saw this and it raised some questions for me too. The main question in my mind is; did the writer of this have to do any exercises, or liberally apply lubricant inside their cheeks previous to pulling so much out of their ass? Alternatively, was he or she hoping to break some daredevil records by making jumps that Evel Knievel never could imagine? I'd assume they must have been without water for 3 days trapped in a house of only Capri Sun pouches with how desperately they grasped at straws.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Even if he's making massive leaps, he's got an astounding amount of evidence to back certain parts of his case. He does appear to be incredibly physically competent to a fault, uses elements of Zui Quan (Albeit rather rarely), and influences things in a "lucky" manner where in the Jedi ethos luck is merely a figment of collective imagination.

So basically, Jar Jar's fumbling success according to lore should either be impossible or co-ordinated. Most people vie for impossible and then go on to criticize star wars very harshly on that basis, which is fair, but if you think of it the other way there is evidence to support it.

Except for the fact that there are amazing individuals that aren't force users and that the force can't account for. Examples : Chewbacca, Han Solo, Wedge Antilles, Boba and Jango Fett. All these individuals pull off incredible feats yet have no force sensitivity what-so-ever.

These are all makeup artists doing Star Wars themed projects and tutorials. Meaning they are into make-up and fashion, and yet still enjoy Star Wars. The first two are even using the Cover Girl makeup.

Even nerds wear make-up.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I am well aware of that. But I'm talking about the people at the insane end of the 'fashion' spectrum that are so caught up in being 'edgy' they ignore practicality or appeal. The people responsible for this... this... foolishness :

used links instead of pics, cuz the make my connection chug

I realize this is similar to cos-play but damn, it just rubs me the wrong way.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Those are part of fashion shows though, and fashion shows tend to get... ridiculous, agreed there.

Still, the market this particular brand of cosmetics would be appealing to is people more along the lines of what I linked. They'll be the ones buying it at store level and online. Fashion agencies tend to get a big discount because they're helping to promote the line. So really the Star Wars make up isn't being geared towards that...

yeah, foolishness works for what that was.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

For some reason I totally feel like watching old van damme movies, lately!

I will start off with 'No Retreat, no Surrender'(1986) and then maybe watch 'Kickboxer'(1989) next.

WHAT THE HELL!?!

It's just a silly little fan theory. They pop up all the damn time and then fade into obscurity. They're amusing for the effort that goes into them, but that's it.
