Ok since i did not see a topic, i'll post it.

Please people, if your going to put naruto, bleach, or one piece, don't bother. Those manga/anime are shit.

My current readings and favorites
-All time favs
Gantz
(If you've just watched the anime, your missing out bigtime).
Berserk
(If you haven't read it, shame)
Biomega
(Halo mixed with Resident evil)

Currently reading
-BLAME!
(very..different to say the least. Worth a read, but warning, SHIT HITS THE FAN A LOT)
-Sun-Ken-Rock
(gangs lulz).
-Ubell Blatt
(Fast to slow, hardcore to not)
-The Breaker
(Kung-fu manga win. Literally none beats it atm)

So if anyone has recommendations or even comments, post em.

Re: Manga suggestions?

i detest the gratuitous violence and sex in most manga and porn but for some reason in gantz it makes sense, thats why i like it.

Re: Manga suggestions?

I recommend, HotD, high school of the dead, warning though, it contains alot of fanservice, I.E boobs, I just ignore them and look at the zombies.

There are zombies, lots and lots of zombies.
And guns, don't forget the guns, personally it isn't my favourite manga, but it was fun to read, and it's the only thing I can think of atm.

So yeah, give it a try if you want.

Re: Manga suggestions?

I've been reading Ikki Tousen/Battle Vixens

It's full of fan service, sexual references and themes but hey, it's loosely based on Three Kingdoms china in a reasonably cool way and some of the fights are pretty cool.

I've read up to the end of book 14. Need more. I know up to 16 is out.

Re: Manga suggestions?

I tried Battle Vixens for the Three Kingdoms reason. Little too much fanservice for me. Then what do I get? "Dragon Sisters," which is, in effect, a gender-swapped RoTK (with the exception of Cao Cao, Sun Quan, and Liu Bei). Only 2 volumes out that I have in my possession, but it's not uber-fanservicey. It's just got chicks. Lots and lots of chicks.

I have read a good chunk of Berserk. I really need to finish that out. Dark and depressing as all hell, but I love it.

Maybe Battle Royale if you're looking for something along the Gantz line.

Myself, I mostly read yaoi and fantasy-adventure type stuff, so if you're looking for that, I'll be happy to prattle off titles from personal recommendation. Anything else, I can probably browse through the shelves at work and go "that's like this, that's like this" and recommend things, but outside of that, nothing comes to mind off the top of my head.

Although, try the Vampire Hunter D mangas. They're pretty close to the novels. Again, if you like that sort of thing.

I have a few links *somewhere* to various online manga sites if you want to check things out, but I have to *find* them, so it might take me a bit.

Highschool of The Dead is made of epic win. A shame the updates are sporadic. And I count some of the zombies as being fanservice.....

Franken Fran is also amazing.

But, the most amazing one that you should read is without a doubt Full Metal Alchemist. Read it or I'll track you down and gut you.

These threads usually start off into really broad subject areas(all sorts of different themed manga) if you don't specify what you like. I tried this a couple of times b4 and i got everything from naruto to vampire night. Personally i read a LOT of manga, i go all over the place, but I'm always open to new ones.

And thanks guys for the reccomendations.

I'll check out HoTD, Franken Fran(been meaning to read that for awhile), and battle royal.

Ikki Tousen is kinda meh. I've seen all of the current anime, and its really not that interesting, the manga is pretty much the same art wise. Personally its a full fanservice anime with a few loosely based fights. If you liked IT then you might like Tenjou Tenge, less fanservice, but more action+art.

Oh, i already read FMA and VampD. I

Re: Manga suggestions?

He's a fan of the Persona series, which is as close to anime/manga as most games could hope to get, and has the Lucky Star dance as well as a few random parts of an episode in his favourites, though that was quite a while ago. Also a few abridged series vids, though that doesn't mean much.

Not sure what to make of that. He's probably just bitter that the damp air under his bridge ruined all his own mahn-guh.

Re: Manga suggestions?

p3 and 4 will always be considered masterpieces because it's actually not terribly cliche and obnoxious like most other anime shit

and lucky star is basically a meme, I don't know anybody who legitimately enjoys it, they just like pretending to be the obnoxious weeaboo that show is aimed at

Re: Manga suggestions?

Gintama is a great manga if you can find a good translator, otherwise most of the jokes make no fucking sense at all.

Uh, Eyeshield 21 is pretty good as well, if you like that type of manga.

Death Note kicks ass.

Black Cat isn't the worst manga you can read, but it's not great.

I liked the beginning of Fruits Basket, but it gets really girly towards the end.

Re: Manga suggestions?

Dunno if you'd like it, but I'd say give SoulTaker a try. Kid's mother kills him, and she does it because in doing so she saves his life.
Might get confusing, though. I personally didn't have a problem following along, but I know a few of my friends did.

As for manga, only recommendation I have is Love Hina. Male college student becomes the land-lord for an all-girls dormitory. Hilarity ensues.

Re: Manga suggestions?

Alright, raising this thread because I don't know if it's really necessary to make a new thread for what I'm asking for.

So, about 3-4 years ago, I was given the first book in a series called Psychic Academy. I really liked the book, but I couldn't find the rest of the books ANYWHERE.
Recently, I had an urge to try to find scans for it. So far, all I've found is the following site:

My problem is, I REALLY don't like the translation job. I mean, yeah, they did an o.k. job and they translated it well, as in they got the words right, but comparing the scan of the first book to the actual book, I really don't like their translation. Is it fair of me to compare a fan-translation to a professional one? Not really, but I look at the fan-translations people put on , and I can't help but want a better translation.

What it really comes down to is the liberties translators take when they translate. It's one thing to translate word-for-word, it's another to translate and word it in an interesting way.
Let me give an example of what I mean:

Page from the Scan
Now, change the dialogue to this (photoshop has decided not to work, so you'll have to use your imagination)
Panel #1:
-Ai: "What th- How'd- Get offa me!!!"
-Rabbit: "Noooo sir. I been waitin' people-years for a rock like you, Fred."
Panel #2:
-Rabbit: "Say, Goose a Gander! The aura on this kid! You're an uncut gem, you are."
-Ai: "He's inside my head!"
Panel #3:
-Rabbit(right side): "I'm just sayin'... In the hands of the right jeweler... well, ya got plenty of carrots, if ya get me, Sharp."
-Rabbit(left side): "Sharpy-sharp-sharp. I'm chiselin' an arrowhead outta you, Buck."
Panel #4:
-Ai: "Um... Hey, rabbit..."
-Rabbit: "Tha FRICK! Rab-? Ya call me Master, ya pumpkinhead! Master Boo!"
Panel #5:
-Boo: "AHEM!"
-Ai: "Gaaah! What's going on?!"

TLDR;
Does anyone know if there's another site with the scans of Psychic Academy? I know of the one site, but I don't really like the translation job.

Re: Manga suggestions?

I found a few sites that carried the series, but they are all using the same scans. Google may help.

Re: Manga suggestions?

Yeah, unless it has any type of alternate name, the site I found that seems to have decent scans (seems to...haven't poked around much...) doesn't have it. Go figure.
