Re: Hate Thread

People are indeed fucked. We always have been. We're too specialized in our own way even if we are a bunch of tough mother fuckers. When we run out.... we run out. It's not like back in the hunter/gatherer days when we could just move on from an area after we'd depleted it and wait for everything to grow back.

We're fucked no matter what we do, and doing something now and not ages ago is only delaying the inevitable. You know it's true. There's no way we can keep up the rate of population explosion and still have enough resources to go around for everyone. It just won't happen. War is our brand of "natural" selection.... as ugly and nasty as that thought is. With less people... there'd be less problems.

I'm not gonna deny that it's happening. I know -something- is going on. But there's nothing I can do about it. I'm not a scientist. I don't know anything about alternative energy. I do what i can around the house to keep my bills down. That's all I can do.

Re: Hate Thread

I think keeping the bills down is a great attitude, between that and potentially voting for someone who actually doesn't just go "Oh well, there's still some room for doubt right?"
That is really all that can be expected of someone.

-groan- all the politicians are saying there's room for doubt. They want to go both ways and they CAN'T

Re: Hate Thread

Haha, yeah, I know I remember way back when I decided who in Norway to vote for. (We have lots of parties here, not just two.) They had a poster saying things like: "We are going to try and improve the health system, be eco friendly, better school system, blablabla." Then they finished it up saying, "We're not gonna try to bullshit you, this is going to take a lot of time and money, and we can't get it all from cutting down on big businesses, so taxes are likely going to go up, and we're going to have to cut down on the number of jobs in government and make if more efficient, but hey, at least we're trying to be honest."

I have to say though of the American candidates, I still like Obama. (Least deserved peace prize winner of all time though.) I mean, sure the States are in kind of a rough spot, but that is also partly because he came out with a lot of the "secrets" that previous administrations have been shoving under the carpet. He's still a politician, but as politicians go he's not that bad.

Re: Hate Thread

On the one hand, I agree. On the other... he wants to take away military pay. Like... he doesn't want to pay our soldiers for being soldiers.

I hate that. Those boys deserve better.

Re: Hate Thread

We could always just not have so many soldiers. Currently, more than half of the US budget is spent on the military. The last estimate I saw was somewhere near 58%.

Edit: inb4 "Blah! Patriotism!" To clarify: I think we should slash the useless shit like the massive research budgets and buying things like tanks and cluster bombs, not the pay for veterans and active duty military members.

Re: Hate Thread

Well, no, he doesn't want to take away their pay. He might delay their pay if nothing happens with the budget plans soon.

He does however seem to want to cut down on military pay as well, so take from that what you will. But he is not saying he will take it away, only that it will be delayed, but some questionable news sources (Fox news probably) relayed it as OMG HE'S NOT GOING TO PAY OUR SOLDIERS!

And not to disrespect American soldiers, but as it stands now there are way too many young soldiers with poor training and preparation going into conflicts that could've been solved just as well with fewer soldiers and more training.

Re: Hate Thread

From what I've heard from buddies in the military, the administration wants to take it away completely. At least, that's what their higher ups told them.

And I agree with you on that last part. Less of our boys would die if they were better trained.

Re: Hate Thread

Well, all the new sources I can find are at least 6 months old, so I might be wrong, but Obama is a very smart man, and I doubt he would be stupid enough to do something like that. After all, that is an automatic "Please hate me button." It is far more probable that it's a republican scare tactic. (Forgive me if there are any die hard republicans here, but my respect for most republicans have dwindled into nothingness after years gone by. Actually that goes for much of the US governmental system, but especially republicans.)

The more I learn about politics and people the more conservative I've become.

That said, this whole party thing is bullshit and neither party has been sticking by the true tenets they were started for.

Re: Hate Thread

I hate when my computer gets a virus. Had to spend all day getting rid of the damn thing, so I missed out on going to an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet with my gaming club. If I didn't need my computer for any more homework, I coulda just said 'fuck it' and gone, but my professors decided to wait until the second-to-last-week to dump a couple of projects on us....
.....
I hate it when teachers dump huge projects on you last minute.

Re: Hate Thread

regardless of how bad we screw up the planet we are resilient, no apocalypse short of a planet killer is going to get rid of all of us. We just might have to give up some of our current way of life.

Re: Hate Thread

I suppose I'm some strange conservative/ liberal hybrid... I agree with many of the hardline demands of many conservatives, but I am also a student of science, and I can't disregard all the absolutely ridiculous stuff that a lot of conservatives spew forth.

My ideal political party would be something like this:

Conserving jobs? Fuck that, there's enough stuff to do without having whole departments sending each others papers around in circles.
Stem cell research? Bring on the fertilized eggs!
Immigrants? Sure we have to let some in, but you get 1 or maybe 2 fucking chances for the first 5 years, and if you commit a crime, well, sorry we're not wasting money on you in prison. You're going out of here.
Gay marriage? People are people, love is love, no matter.
Religion in science classes? The bible said that the circumference of a circle divided by it's diameter is 3. Try doing that with every round component of a car, and see how far you get.

And for the love of all that means anything, make it so that it's not actually common practice for every single bill to pass through congress/similar institution, to be evaluated by the funds thrown at the problem. I mean really, in almost any other occupation that would be seen as corruption.

...

Is there a political thread somewhere? I suddenly have an urge to discuss politics, and I feel I've derailed this thread enough.

Re: Hate Thread

Why is it that when people talk about environmental impact they never talk about population control?

Fewer people = fewer needed natural resources

Most of our problems would be solved that way, and yet no one likes putting on the asshole hat.

Re: Hate Thread

I hate when people try to do something last-minute, and then complain when nobody can make it, even though it was 'planned'.

Not that I WANTED to go rock-climbing in this weather, mind you, but it would have been nice to know about it in an advance of MORE than 24 hours, much less 12.

... okay, it's not rock-climbing per-se, but the hiking route has enough big-ass rock walls that it might as well be.

Pretty much this. We're up to 7 billion, we can afford to stop making so many.

Re: Hate Thread

More of a disappointment than anything, but seeing as a disappointment thread doesn't exist it'll go here. Kind of disappointed that Tab doesn't taste much different to normal cola.
